Does Jerry Richardson have no creativity. Another defense minded coach (albeit a good one) and bad news for the Chargers #1 rated defense. Sorry I would rather Ron Rivera stay with the chargers and give them a legitimate push for a superbowl contention next year. Instead of a mediocre panthers season of 7-9 next year with Ron Rivera; and the Chargers struggling with defensive playing calling giving up 20-30 points per game even with their charged up offense.

^^^^^ I know right?! I cant believe he violated the NFL tradition of one team considering the well being of another team who happens to have the star alumni from the first team's area. How dare he!

I meant no creativity as far as hiring another defensive minded coach, not that i expect him to give a shit about what SD is losing.

dont you think thats a bit premature considering a) Rivera hasn't signed yet, and more importantly, b) none of us have any idea who the new offensive coordinator is going to be

This hire isn't going to excite anybody. The real fun begins when we name the offensive coordinator.

I think it's a great hire after watching what he did with the Chargers after the mess that was Cotrell's defense.

I guess he's going to stick with the 4-3? He ran the 3-4 in San Diego but he did 4-3 in Chicago.

panthers players are designed for 4-3, so they will keep doing that i would imagine

I doubt our existing personnel will be a factor. They're easily replaceable. They shouldn't be allowed to touch a football. Except for Beason, they're all an insult to the game.

Dave Wannstedt would be a good addition. Might be competing with Ron's old team for him.

Was it actually about something relevant or was it just one of those lame Leno jokes about whatever football team happens to be sucking at the time?

No ... Leno is very much unwatchable. I had the late local news on, trying to get an update on the snow. When it went off, I overheard the first few minutes of his monologue in the background. Paraphrasing...

"Cam Newton is on the show. I've been told he might make his future plans known tonight ... whether he wants to go play in the NFL or go play for the Carolina Panthers."

I'm hoping we trade down and pick up this guy.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aReOloBmRkQ

Early years

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Paea grew up on Vava?u, Tonga. When he was 16, his family moved to the United States, originally to Lawrence, Kansas, where his cousin Chris Maumalanga was playing for the Kansas Jayhawks.[2] After a year, they moved to Provo, Utah, where Paea attended Timpview High School. Playing defensive line at only 240 pounds, he drew little attention by Division I schools, so he decided to enroll at nearby Snow College in Ephraim.
After redshirting his initial year at Snow, he added more than 20 pounds to his frame and started the 2007 season as the No. 2 tackle on the depth chart. Finally drawing the attention of major schools, he transferred to Oregon State in mid-season after graduating from Snow with an associate's degree in December 2007.[3]
[edit]College career

Making an immediate impact for the Beavers, Paea played in all 13 games, starting 12 of them, and recorded 41 tackles, 11 for a loss, and five quarterback sacks. He was selected to College Football News' All-Sophomore Second Team and was an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention.
As a junior, he registered a team-leading 8.5 tackles for loss and was co-leader for sacks with three. He was named All-Pacific-10 First Team and received the Morris Trophy for the best defensive lineman in the conference.
In February 2010, a YouTube video showed him bench-pressing 225 pounds 44 times.[4][5] The NFL combine record is 51, established by Justin Ernest in 1999.[6]

I think this guy is a lock to make more than a few Pro Bowls in his career. He's only been playing 3 years, is majoring in engineering, has a great work ethic and is humble to top it off. He's put on 40+ lbs in the past 3 years.

Rivera looking at current Chargers TE coach Rob Chudzinski as his OC, apparently his top choice
