I think we've basically watched the transition from old GOP into extreme GOP. The next 20 years of politics is basically going to be total war waged on the left by the right wing of the GOP which will basically fill all of their political positions going forward.
Depending on how the left governs you'll either see moderate progress (by controlling house/senate/wh) or you'll see no progress leading to an equal and opposite, extreme reaction from the left.
Sets us up nicely for basically a choice between fascism and communism. Exciting times. 7/1/2020 12:08:42 PM |

^^I'm basing that on 538
Quote : | "The GOP primary in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District was more of a surprise, however, with President Trump’s backed candidate Rep. Scott Tipton losing to restauranteur Lauren Boebert by about 9 points, 54.6 percent to 45.4 percent. Tipton is now the fourth House incumbent to lose renomination this year,1 and his defeat could make this Republican-leaning seat — Trump won it by 12 points in 2016, according to Daily Kos Elections — highly competitive in November. Boebert ran to the right of Tipton, drawing on her background as a gun-rights activist (she runs a restaurant where servers are allowed to openly carry firearms). But she’s raised very little money so far, and has attracted controversy for her views on QAnon, a far-right movement labeled a domestic terrorist threat by the FBI last year that promotes false conspiracy theories " |

^I think it's "both sides'ing" a bit to say the choice is fascism or communism. The right is actively and semi successfully pursuing fascism. The left is nowhere near communism. Bernie and AOC are are the farthest left with any power and they are basically just pushing moderate Dem Soc policies.

Ah sorry let me clarify. I definitely do not think the current left-wing position is communism by any means. I just expect that down the road you'll see the left-wing drift towards that more and more as a reaction to how far the right has gone.
One of the indicators, for me at least, is the whole PC/cancel culture that's starting to take root. I see that as naturally progressing to policies that existed in post-revolution Russia, for example where you end up with people afraid to even speak candidly in their homes out of fear of a neighbor reporting them to the gestapo. 7/1/2020 12:35:43 PM |

So I woke in the middle of the night with a thought that I couldn't shake.
How can any political party with a significant number of its base who strongly believes that a former president and, for some reason more specifically, former first lady/senator/secretary of state have had 30+ people killed not identify their views as extremist?
Even more disturbingly, the base views the 'murder list' as a certainty, despite 12 republican presidential years, republicans owning both houses multiple times, and a mad man in the house who wanted to lock Hillary up for the common practice of off server emails who haven't pursued alleged crimes that are supposedly so obvious they've become part of party dogma.
The republican base tendency to believe this narrative, coupled with the willingness of party leaders and choice media outlets to push, rather than condemn, the narrative is the best, most clear example of a party whose mainstream has reached extremist tendencies that align with the conspiratorial. 7/9/2020 11:25:05 AM |
