^^^ Overheard in a restaurant last night:

Trump wants to help Pelosi so he has leverage to secure funding for the wall.

The same people were happy to see Ryan gone because he was beholden to the Chamber of Commerce and globalists.

They are terrified of AOC. They wouldn't spend so much time trying to tear her down now if they didn't fear her future. If they had ignored her I think she'd only have a couple of terms before losing to a primary challenger, but now her name recognition has made her into one of the best fundraisers the party is likely to see for the next 4 years.

^ She's the best politician on Instagram too by a HUGE margin

Trump dominated Twitter and Facebook during the 2016 election, but young people aren't really on those platforms

Are you finally coming around to the idea that going left is the best defense against the hard-right? Or are you going to strategically try to get her to fall in line when it comes down to it? The former can work, but the latter is a recipe for disaster.

Or is this one of those takes where you reduce her down to her personality and charm and completely gloss over her actual policy positions that make her such an effective force against the reactionary-right wing?

I'm curious how one of the most ardent defenders of centrist dems squares away the popularity of a left leaning newcomer.

What is it about her that makes her so good, in your opinion?

lol when have I ever been a defender of "centrist" Dems? Because I pointed out having 1 Senator from WVU is better than having zero? Because I can count? The fact is that not every part of the country is demographically suited for folks who call themselves socialists.

And I like AOC because she's smart and knows how to play the game, evidenced by her understanding that Nancy Pelosi is a better friend than an enemy. That's what's going to make her a rockstar not her policy proposals, which are basically cut and paste from the current Democrat platform.

Hillary Clinton ran on universal health care, raising the minimum wage, debt free college, and massive green energy reforms. You folks practically called her a Republican. I turn the question back on you, why do you like Alexandria ocasio-cortez other than the fact that she's young and pretty?

Also my wife kind of looks like her so if anyone here could be forgiven for liking her just cuz it's me

No Bernie ran on Medicare for all which was some amorphous ambiguous slogan that never had an actual policy attached to it. Hillary Clinton actually ran on concrete policy proposals that would expand access to healthcare.

Universal Healthcare
Clinton: Building on the private industry and keeping healthcare tied to employment
Green New Deal: Single Payer

Minimum Wage
Clinton: $12/hr, I think?
Green New Deal: Guaranteed work at an actual living wage

College
Clinton: If you are poor, you're required to work through college to pay your tuition, putting you at a disadvantage based on income. No forgiveness of student loan debt.
Green New Deal: Tuition free college and free pre-school

Green Energy Reforms
I don't even care enough to research Clinton's positions because they're definitely worse like everything else.

Let alone all of the other things you left out. Clinton and the old Democrat guard are trash and comparing Ocasio-Cortez to them makes you look extremely ignorant.

Bernie ran on a bill he proposed a year after the election ended? Why do I even bother with you people? I mean all I really have to do is say scoreboard after this past midterms. It wasn't a bunch of Bernie Sanders clones winning all those elections. It was mostly a bunch of moderate Democrats running in purple districts that Hillary carried.

It was mostly bi-partisan dems that won. Not the left

But also the left is the most potent defense against Trump

But the left isn't even more left than Clinton

Who was pragmatic but also radical

Scoreboard.

Email News is dumb. Hopefully people talk more about the only reason we care about email is the GOP witch hunt of Hillary was at a dead end with Benghazi so they pivoted to emails, which was also a dead end but they still were able to make hay out of it and win an election.

I mean it’s funny and hypocritical but no one seriously cared then about the email thing and no one does now. If it wasn’t emails it was Benghazi. If it wasn’t Benghazi it was the Foundation. Etc, etc.

I'm not sure what to think about the latest in his war with the press. So now, reporters are only allowed to ask one question before giving up the mic, but, if he allows it, they might be able to ask a follow-up question?
