I like listening to the Yuck record, but it's way too Gin Blossoms-y in spots.

I stand by both statements.

Very Gin Blossoms-y, in a good way.

Still too Gin Blossoms-y in spots.

as someone who has been off their train for awhile now I'm actually really enjoying the new The Avett Brothers album. It's very mellow, and although recorded during the same sessions as The Carpenter, i feel like it's a more cohesive album. Though the live Souls Like Wheels track towards the end is kind of random.

the new pearl jam album has the strange idea that it's awesome and horrible all at the same time

oh well... i guess that's what happens when you get old and smoke and drink too much... also when you think that people in the streaming world still understand shit by Side A and Side B... how are you ever going to get those Haim fans to ever think you're relevant

oh and you have families and you think shit is happy and people hate you for that, as well

"pearl jam sucks"

p.s. bring back jack irons, all will be well

[Edited on October 12, 2013 at 3:43 PM. Reason : pendulum is the best pearl jam song in 10 years]

A new album by Pearl Jam is about as relevant as a new album by Sugar Ray right now. Piques my interest only slightly more than a new Alice in Chains or Korn album

i feel like pearl jam showed some signs on binaural that they might've been moving in a more sonically interesting direction, mostly because of "sleight of hand," but instead all we've gotten from them is the boring, uninspired output of the last 13 years. it's pretty disappointing that eddie vedder got so butthurt over the bush administration and insisted on trying the punk thing again. pearl jam has some pretty great musicians, but they seem to have quit challenging themselves a long time ago. i probably won't even bother listening to the new record.

I went from being extremely disappointed upon my initial listen to really enjoying the new Dismemberment Plan album. Probably my 4th favorite from them but I've listened to it a lot the past two days and it's just fun even if the lyrics are the worst thing Travis has done.

unrelated question.. i went to tame impala/flaming lips at merriweather a week or so ago, and i was wondering where a good point to look to see if there was a soundboard for the impala set.... i've tried various google searches, found older shows/etc, but i really dunno where to look

I know a lot of people on here will probably scoff, but the new Alter Bridge album "Fortress" that came out last week is about as epic of a hard rock album as you'll find, I love every second of it. The talent level is ridiculous

For me, when I listen to Eminem I can tell the dude is extremely talented...and I obviously the respect the hell out of his skills. But I just don't really enjoy listening to him. I can't really explain it. I know the guy is a great emcee, but I just can't really get into it.

I heard this criticism before. Eminem is extremely abrasive. his music is abrasive (except when he's doing that silly shit). He's the the type of dude it seems that will seriously tell you to shut the fuck up when you're casually having a conversation with him. People cant get down with that. Him being accepted in the mainstream still surprises me.(being white has a lot of pull tho). He's been accepted in the Pop ranks and he really doesn't have any pop songs. He's hard listen unless you're hip hop head and you like unique lyrical technique or a Stan.

the man has 13 grammies, he has an Oscar, he cant be touched. all rappers know it except for him apparently. No rapper ever will have the success he has had and especially no white rapper. he killed the game for them.

Hip hop is my favorite genre...and it's not like I just hate listening to Eminem. But I wouldn't buy an entire album of his. I can listen to a couple songs at a time then I've kinda had my fill of Em. He's just not my style...but yeah like I said, I respect him and would definitely put him in the upper echelon of rappers without question.

that being said I still til this day cant stand the Slim Shady LP. cant listen to it.

I have this same argument with 2pac. 2pac fans seem to only can name 5 2pac songs. LOL They bring up that Brenda got a baby and Keep your head up nonsense all the time. 2 pac music is extemely abrasive and at times hard to listen to it.

I'm not a fan of most modern hip-hop, nor a fan of most "mainstream" music, but of those genres, Eminem is one of my favorites. he's actually clever, which is appealing. I've never bought an album or been to a concert though.

I love Em's cleverness, but I also love his intricacy. His rhymes aren't typically just punch lines; he shows off his ability to really squeeze in syllables creating a different rhyming sound. It's the same thing that I appreciate about Pharoahe Monch, whom he mentions in the verse.

c'mon, now.

Eminem is extremely talented, there's no denying that. But he's also gotten insanely lazy, and his shtick is beyond old at this point.
It's the classic case of 'hunger' driving someone to greatness, only to have them fall off completely once they reach the top.

when I say "pop song" I mean mainstream, I mean catchy shit they plays everywhere. Em doesn't have any of that. he has silly songs that the mainstream picks up but those aren't pop songs in my opinion. I think his last album was full of pop songs but they didn't play them much.

when the media talks about him they STILL reference "Lose yourself "

Em has always been same to me even now. He has always done silly shit and serious stuff. He's has songs where he kills and songs where it feels like he's on drugs and stupid. Em wasn't the on top of the mountain, he was the mountain. Some of these rappers get shine because they're are media whores all day but Em never been about that so his absence feels like he's "dropping off"

that Berserk song sucks tho. silly shit.

everything he's putting out now is about selling a ton of records. all the terrible collaborations, pop hooks, etc.

Kanye has 21. Jay-Z has 17. How are you defining success here? If solely by album sales the you might have a point...
