kthx. Yah I'm not really into this stuff, that's why I asked.
I know I'm gonna see Swedish House Mafia, 'cause Florence Welsh is performing with them, <3
I'm covering it for consequence of sound, I think at this point I just have to shoot The Crystal Method, Orbital, and Kaskade.

Have you played an attacking position or have you always played goalie? Also, what do you like about playing goalie? 4/3/2010 9:12:24 PM
|
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
I've played goalie from the very beginning, but I occasionally play right wing in a low league for fun. How low? REALLY low. In seven games ever, I have three goals and two assists.
Goalie is fun because you get really cool gear and you get to steal satisfaction from other people. There's no better feeling than stopping a breakaway and seeing your guys pick up the puck and score immediately at the other end. 4/4/2010 6:07:47 PM

What's your mindset during a breakaway? What style of goaltender are you? 4/4/2010 8:08:21 PM
|
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
The mindset is to get out quickly, match closing speed with the shooter, and force him to one side or the other and then explode to that post, keeping in mind to watch for a quick shot instead of a move.
I'm pretty standard butterfly, but I use active hands more than passive hands and have some weird Hasek-like wrinkles in my style. For instance, I often drop my stick and pick up the puck with my blocker hand instead of trying to reach across and cover it with my glove. 4/4/2010 8:32:48 PM

I'm not going to ask you what your favorite book is, but throw a couple out there.
Detail the Creative Writing department staff you were in contact with--what did you think of them? (Trying to decide who to take courses with and who not--Kessel is my anchor right now, and some future courses are taught by McCorkle and Barhardt, or however you spell that guys name). 4/11/2010 9:57:35 PM

I've still got a bit before I graduate, so I still have plenty of opportunity to lose my sanity. How did you put up with the way this school and its students treat English and its related subjects? Is there some kind of trick to it? Another tdub English/Soc. major told me to just not respond to TWW "my education is bigger than yours" talk and just treat it like you would any other troll.
What say you, oh wise graduate? 4/12/2010 9:51:30 PM

Favorite books. Hmm.
As I Lay Dying Invitation to a Beheading The Little Prince Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Fever Pitch Naked Lunch
Nothing out of the ordinary.
As for the LCW staff, I loved them all. I never had a class with Kessel, but Wilton had him look over a story I wrote and he had some very good criticism on character motivation. I never had any contact with McCorkle. Wilton Barnhardt was my advisor for two-plus years and provided me with endless advice. He knows something about everything and is endlessly entertaining, but more importantly will call you on your bullshit and won't let you get away with performing beneath your abilities. Prammagiore (if she's back from abroad?) has some input on the screenwriting side, and she's an excellent reviewer and a cool lady. Give me other names and I'll see what I can do.
In regards to your other post, I never had any problems with the school itself. The biggest culture clash I ever dealt with was in a world lit class with Barbara Orr, who grew up in Africa and as such had a very Afro-centric curriculum. While that didn't bother me, a bunch of the engineers and especially business majors in the class thought it was biased and also had a problem with the essay-heavy test format, which caused all of the English majors to laugh at them. The only other major problem I had was in a Creative Non-fiction course, where all the LCWs fought tooth and nail with the Technician writers.
When engineers look down on me, I tell them to enjoy their money and their cubicles while I enjoy my wine, women, and song. 4/13/2010 8:32:31 PM

That's funny, I had a similar experience in one of my fiction writing courses. The room had a PHYSICAL SPLIT, one side was non-English majors and the other side was LCW, English, Humanities, and the Windhover. It wasn't even intentional, it just happened. Eventually some trade-offs were made and the lines finalized. We gained a couple Accounting and Atmospheric Sciences and they gained a Poli Sci and the single most inartistic Design student I've ever met.
Prammagiore, Kessel, Fargo (graduate student, so you probably haven't had her or anything), Thompson, Bennett, Tom Wallis (?) and... I think there's another... are the only ones I've really had contact with.
The only one I didn't like was Bennett, and that was because we had a bit of a clash. The first half of the class (American Lit II) I was slacking, and I wrote a paper analyzing feminism in The Yellow Wallpaper that she particularly disagreed with. My next paper was an A+, but she thought it was "too good for my history of work" and "far beyond the scope of the class" so she almost took me to a academic trial over it, but let me "prove it was my paper in my own words" (which, of course, it was). She begrudgingly admitted that I seemed to "know what I was talking about", and that she'd check a few things, and that I should know that "it is an A+ paper, should everything prove fine." Almost a compliment. Almost. 4/13/2010 11:39:48 PM
