TKE did you watch the season premier of Conan's late show?
He hijacks a tour bus and drives it around town. At one point there is a silver s2000 at a used car lot he is passing. Someone is looking at a red car next to it. Conan is on the tour bus microphone and says "Dont buy the red car, its a girls color".

I don't know if that comment was to me as I'm pretty sure you've seen my car at least once, but I do drive a Miata and have for several years. I used the A/C a few times to verify that it still worked before I quit caring altogether, the compressor belt hasn't even been on for about a year now. I really don't it's necessary and that's 25% of my power to the wheels I'd like to keep 6/14/2009 12:08:56 AM |

^I've heard that if you don't use the compressor occasionally all the seals go to shit from not being lubricated on the regular...can anyone confirm/deny that?
Quinn, I'm not sure what to tell you but I don't think mine's super strong either. But my last car isn't a good comparison.
As far as top down, i've decided that anything above 90° and sunny is too damn hot. Especially if you're not moving fast. Also, anything more than 1 hour on the interstate going 70mph + is not enjoyable.

got bored this weekend and did the "f1" gauge mod. i'm not sure if i'm going keep it this way but it was super easy and 100% reversible. it's actually quite a bit brighter in person.

the way its setup is 1-3k = green, 3-6k = yellow, 6-8k (VTECCCCCC) = orange, redline still flashes red. 6/15/2009 9:39:31 AM |

all i did was cut a small piece out of a clear plastic folder and taped it over the yellow part inside of the cluster. it really should've only taken an hour for everything but i had the brilliant idea to remake the entire inside of the cluster rather than just use a small piece of whatever color i was going for. my remade inside was too transparent so i tried the overlay idea and it worked much better with much less work. 6/15/2009 12:16:42 PM |

I was more laughing at the angry bee sound.
BTW, if you really want your gauge cluster to resemble F1, the colors should all be stacked in the last 1k rpm. Now if you could make the display flash a few hundred RPM before redline, that'd be neat... 6/15/2009 2:57:31 PM |

^^ah i dont have speakers at work so i assumed the lol was gear specific. so you're saying green > yellow > orange but the last 1k of orange have green/yellow/orange vertically stacked on each other? i would need to see a pic i think.

So, I don't advocate further ricing your S2k, this is just what I'd do if forced to partake in modifying the gauge cluster of the S2k;
As factory behavior until the last 1k rpm or so, at which point the entire cluster turns an angrier color. Since that's impractical, you could have the different color only for the last 1k rpm of the band. Something that might be easier to do is have the whole cluster flash when you're within 1k rpm of redline. I don't see the point of having the cluster have a different color by 4k rpm, that's cruising range on an S2k.
But again, I would've just left it alone, not to say it's not cute that you're doing all this... 6/15/2009 3:34:33 PM |

^too much work. i would agree that the entire mod is pointless although its fun to take things apart to switch things up from time to time, especially when its only a $2 investment. one nice thing about the yellow area is that it eliminates some guesswork when the gf is driving the car as now she knows that anytime she is in the yellow she can shift without bogging the car down.

What I recall is it flashing only the portion of the tach that's past "redline", and it does so as the engine RPM is actually at that specified "redline".
I generally dislike electronic read outs, such as the digital read out for the speedo (my 911 has an analog gauge with a digital read out which is equally annoying), but the tach I don't have a problem with. Actually the simulated analogue -like output of most of the gauge cluster on the S2k is just fine. I don't like flashing lights and other distractions in general. 6/15/2009 6:34:01 PM |

So, question: My wifes, yes wifes, 2003 Honda S2000 is making a clicking noise under the hood. Talked to a few people and they seem to think it is either the timing tensioner or a valve problem. It sounds like a baseball card in the spokes of an old school bike. It sounds worse at low revs, but never goes away. When she is low on oil, before an oil change, it gets worse. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas and where is a good place to have it checked out. We are going to the beach soon and don't want to break down before we get there. All help is appreciated, Thanks 6/16/2009 3:00:49 PM |
