yeah I've not seen any stupid shit go down at the place where I go, but I definitely have no problems calling out the owner/coaches if they decide to do stupid shit but it seems like they have a good head on their shoulders so it shouldn't be a problem.

im gonna try it saturday. i can't even snatch 165 once, but it won't matter since i doubt i'll even get that far

So clarify for me. Did she register for the Open to have her scores officially validated? Or is she just doing this without registeration?

If I were her, I would have opted out of the Open as well. Because at the end of the Open, what if she is right up there with Annie or A.K on the leaderboard. Then what? Sit out for the Games? That would be hard for a competitive athlete like Julie.

I heard that her boards are in June, so she could still make the Games in July if she does well in the Open.

she registered for the open.

as of right now, she is sitting at 12th on the women's leaderboard for 13.1

but yeah, no doubt in my mind she will do the games. competitive people like that don't just sit out.

got through the 40 burpees, 30 snatches at 75lb and 30 burpees in about 10min. couldn't do more than one sloppy as hell snatch with a freaking pressout at 135lb, so scaled back for the remainder of the time to 110lb for 30 reps. that workout was insanely heavy. here's to next week!

Paced too slowly because I didn't know how 165 would go. Got 3 snatches at 165 in before time. I told myself I'd only do the WODs once and I'm going to [begridgingly] stick to that this year.

i paced the 135's too slowly and had a hard time getting them finished. oh well. they started to feel real heavy toward the end. almost made it to the 165's but i probably wouldnt have been able to get one by that point in the workout.

I would have love to sign up for the Open to see where I stand internationally. But my competitiveness would have gotten the best of me, and I don't want to risk anything.

Especially in 13.1, burpee/snatch combo wouldn't be good for someone coming back from a discectomy. It's been about a year now, I would say the surgery was successful although I notice some "sciatic pangs" when I push myself a bit harder in my workouts. Then, I just back off, or stop completely.

I've stayed away from certain movements since the surgery. Burpees I'm really uncomfortable with. I really don't kip anymore. I still perform the major lifts but not at high reps anymore. I guess I'm more gymnastics/body weight emphasis now. Surgeon says don't run anymore, and I really don't. I maybe do 1x or 2x a week on treadmill but no more than 2-3 miles. I have not tested my back on harder surfaces yet. I really have no desire to run so much anymore.

What's help tremendously is seeing a chiropractor who happens to be a crossfitter. We spend each session cleaning up my techniques and really just learning to switch my motor pattern for proper positioning. I am more aware of my body now. He is legit and very knowledgable.

Looks like everyone is hitting 190, I say if you get close to that, you're pretty darn elite

And where is Dave Lipson these days? Don't hear much about him anymore, did he retire?

Ugh. Can we go back to live judging as in Sectionals to hold people more accountable? Or is it too costly for HQ? I forgot why they change the format of qualifying for Regionals.

^^^^ Sucks for him, but if he's that good and was gonna do it twice maybe he should have made absolutely 100% sure to meet the movement standards one of those times...why risk it if you're serious?

Also, concerning the money thing, this is a no-brainer for Crossfit. They went from something that they probably lost money on to set up and judge, to something where every fool in the country pays $20 regardless of how good they are and Crossfit HQ has to lay down nothing but the guidelines

All apologies aside, from the judge who is an affiliate owner/coach , it's still inexcusable that he didn't know the standards. Both athlete and judge should have reviewed both print and video before judging.

Pure laziness, IMO.

13.3 - got through the wallballs and doubleunders with about 3min to spare, had barely enough steam for 7 muscle ups. the pull and transition were easy but i had to pump my legs to get a ring dip. triceps were smoked for some reason

What are people's thoughts on learning muscle ups on rings versus a bar? I feel like rings would be easier but most of the internet seems to suggest going for bar first.

I think with the bar you can muscle yourself up easier (more brute strength), with rings it's more technique and finesse.

That's how it is for me at least. I can string together about 10 muscles ups on the bar without stopping, I've yet to do a ring muscle up. But, I haven't spent any time learning the ring technique.

i can string muscle ups with a false grip on rings. but i can not yet do a muscle up on bars.

13.3 today. got through the wall balls in about 6:30. sucked on the double unders, still had enough time left over to get a few muscle ups.

^ i'm the same way. ring muscle ups (kipping/strict) no problem, but yet to figure out how to flip my elbows to get over a bar.

Wall balls are my Achilles heel...for now

Wall balls took me like 8:30ish to get through, finished double Unders by 10:46, got 10 muscle ups in remaining time

regarding bar vs rings muscle ups, I personally learned using the false grip on the rings and then progressed on to non false grip (essential if you want to be able to do them when you have to jump up to the rings and do the turnout). I almost never tried on the bar, so was never able to do it, then finally one day just spent 10 minutes trying to figure it out and once I did it seemed easier. There are some slight differences in the movement, but overall you're able to use your momentum a lot more on the bar without losing it

13.4 - 47 reps. pretty much had to drop the bar and do singles every time after the first set of 3 C&J's. no-rep'd a couple jerks because I hit my chin on the way up and couldn't lock out.

Injuries are mostly preventable in bodybuilding (and to a lesser extent powerlifting) with smart programming and listening to your body. Too bad Crossfit is the opposite of smart programming. When Crossfit culture places positive value on "pushing past the pain" and shames people that aren't "hardcore" enough, the risk of injury goes up. Nothing surprising there.

If a professional powerlifter or bodybuilder gets injured, that's potentially career ending. They go to great lengths to protect themselves. When a competitive crossfitter gets injured, they're told to get well soon, and no one in the community seems to ask, "Hmm, maybe there are changes we could make that would reduce the risk of injury for participants..."

And, therein lies the issue. Yes, any serious competitor in any sport usually faces some type of injury at some point. That is the nature of competition. Annie is a serious competitor, so no shock she took her performance past here body's threshold.

My beef: Crossfit is touted as a cure all superior training program to make anyone el33t. When the truth about its big risks and flawed programming are exposed, it's zealots scream pussy, bullshit, or ignorant annoyance.

Yea, you are right. And there is a reason for it. I like being strong, and getting stronger.

I do mix in some MetCon work, like sustained circuits and alactic & anaerobic glycolitic work to build work capacity, but I do it for a purpose rather than head banging for time.

When you can out lift me from following crossfit programming, come talk.

If you have a good coach, you have a good coach. I do not deny that there are good coaches in the crossfit realm.

you're taking the extreme and assuming that it's the same every where you go. go to a few of the well reviewed crossfit gyms, and you won't see the injury stuff.

anyways - you're point has been made numerous times about your opinion of xfit, so what's the point of rehashing it?

Yet Crossfit is horribly dangerous that you chose to confusingly advertise your strength conditioning program to something similar to the trademark name to attract new clients.

Sounds hypocritical to me.

It just makes him look immature and butthurt to see people flocking to Crossfit gyms while he's still begging people to pay him $400 a month to tell them to do weird exercises when they could get similar results doing a couple hours of cardio and some simple resistance workouts at home or their local gym for $30 a month. So he takes it out on this thread.

STACFit: Strength Training, Athletic Conditioning, Fitness.

It's our group fitness class. I've almost been open a year. Injuries: 1.

I've got about 3 twwers that currently train there. I've trained over about 8.

And, you have absolutely no idea about how we train or the equipment I've put together. And, $400/month is a steal for the services you get at my gym. The same service at another gym would probably be at least 50% more.

You've obviously never ran a small business that is your livelihood... Or if you have, you don't understand the power and importance of self promotion if you want it to succeed. I eat, breathe, live what I do. Being vocal about it allows me to connect with people who share the same values.

I don't see where I am being immature or butt hurt, only vocal about what I disagree about re: crossfit. You are the only one that's resorted to ad hominem. How's your butt feel?
