Maybe I missed it, but have they announced what number TJ took in PHX?

He was #12 on the summer league team last night. He scored 22 points in 23 minutes.

Zo also had a good game for the clips. 17 points and 8 assists.

TJ vs JMM

we all know who wins

Well technically JMM won because the suns lost, but it was pretty clear that the warriors coaches were more concerned with winning. Warren didn't even play in the final couple minutes for the suns.

I just tried, but I'm a defensive parent.

No one should have an opinion about him--even a positive one. He's too special. Any examination of his game is insulting. The world just needs to let him be amazing. He won't let the world down.

"T.J. Warren, Phoenix Suns | Grade: A
He didn’t earn the bandage over his eye by accident. Warren was a human wrecking ball offensively, smashing his way to whatever spot on the floor he desired before simply overpowering his defender for easy buckets. It’s not very often you see a perimeter player rack up 28 points with no threes, but Warren seems to get the best of every physical exchange he gladly partakes in. If he ever develops 3-point range, watch out."

i guess in the NBA he is more of a small 3, but he's never been a "perimeter player"

I love TJ. Dude was a blast to watch for his 2 years here and he's easily one of my favorite State players of all time. Really hope to see him do well...both for his own success, but also it'd be great to have consistent producer in the NBA to help with recruiting.

TJ the only one with a solid A.

Also:

"For players who average more than 4 point per game, TJ is first in points per minute played. Look who's number 4. Here are the top 5 for both leagues (mpg/ppg/ppm):

TJ Warren (23.3 / 20 / 0.858)
Tim Hardaway Jr (26 / 21.8 / 0.838)
Yuki Togashi (7.5 / 6 / 0.8)
Courtney Fells (22.8 / 17.3 / 0.759)
Glen Rice Jr ( 30.5 / 22.5 / 0.738)"

Impressive seeing both Warren and Fells on that list. My memory may be wrong, but I remember Fells always being on the cusp of being a really good player. But his shot wasn't quite consistent enough and I'm sure the coaching didn't help him either. He was a great athlete who showed flashes of being really good (remember the UNC game in Lowe's first season?) but for whatever reasons he just wasn't all that consistent. I'd love to see him in the NBA.

He had a good enough showing in summer league last year that the Spurs nearly signed him

Yeah Fells had a big showing and it never really turned into anything for him, sadly.

I watched the highlights of Warren's 26-point outing, and he looked just like he did at State. Attacking the basket, hustling on turnovers, getting offensive boards on his own misses, and hitting some really nice shots after adjustments over defenders. The only negative thing I've seen so far out of his Summer League performance, is that he hasn't hit a single 3-pointer yet. That might work at first, but he's really going to need to start hitting some 3's if he expects to get solid minutes next season. Going to be too easy to defend him if he isn't a threat from beyond the arc.

He finds way to put up points without demanding the ball. He's the opposite of a guy like Carmelo, who has to pound the ball to create offense. TJ barely touches the ball and still puts up 25-30 points. He's also the best finisher in transition I think I've ever seen.

TJ with a reliable 3pt shot would be unstoppable.

In the highlights I saw he almost seemed like he was back at NC State where he knew he needed the ball in his hands. Several fast break opportunities with 2-3 on 1 and he routinely kept it the whole way and just took the defender to the basket. He made most of them or at least got to the FT line, but probably won't fly in the regular season when he could just pass it off for the easy score to a teammate.

Also hard to tell because I feel like this is kinda like the pro-am for college where the players know the goal is to have a strong showing more than it is to win games.

do find it a little interesting how much attn is paid to his 3 point shot. doesn't even seem like he needs it to me.

Would be willing to bet s pile of money he's shooting 33% plus from 3s by his 3rd or 4th season. Enough already. Muscle memory is lost when you add that much muscle.

Jordan never shot 3s well except when they had the college line

Not worried about it at all. He's got the rest of the summer & fall to work on his shot. Plus, the Suns have arguably the best training staff in the NBA.

^ If he put up 30 points in a real NBA game, then yeah, that would be applicable.

Putting up 30 points on a bunch of Summer League guys with several players who won't be on NBA rosters next year...not really valid.

^ this. Nearly every player worth a shit gets better at shooting the 3 as they progress in the NBA except lazy fucks like Ray Felton. TJ will be no different.

Hes going up against the worst defenders hes faced in a few years as the best defender on each college team and the focal point of a college coach was better d than summer league

It's not even about who's guarding him. He scored 75% of his points in the open court or on scramble plays (offensive rebounds, broken plays, etc).

The thing that stands out is how easy he makes it look. He was arguably the best scorer in the entire summer league despite not having a reliable jumper yet. Once he gets that (and he will get that), he's going to be unstoppable.

There's also this:

Quote :
"The Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks may have nabbed the crop’s top two talents. The steal of the draft, however, could belong to the Phoenix Suns.

Everyone knew T.J. Warren was good. Averaging 25 points per game and bringing home the ACC Player of the Year Award as a sophomore all but proved it.

That he was this good, this seemingly NBA-ready—not even the handful of teams ahead of the Suns could have quite seen that coming. He's averaged nearly 18 points and shot over 50 percent in summer league, leaving a lot of excitement for the future.
"

Dude looked like a future pro from his first moments on the court. We always knew if his offensive game translated to the NBA he'd have at least a solid career as a rotation player. Now it looks like his conservative ceiling is pretty high, perennial all star if he works on that long range jumper.
