herb quote after beating Arizona

Quote :
""It's a big win for a program over our top rival and in-state foe. Obviously this has been a year that has tested the team's resolve and required a lot of reflection. Through it all, we've grown as men and as a team. This game was huge for Arizona as they're looking to get into the tourney and it was a challenge of our character and strenth to take them down. We may have opened the door for my old team there in Raleigh which made the win even sweeter.""

wow barnes on ACC First team over marshall.

Barnes while good, may be the most overrated player ever to come through the ACC.

Barnes being first team over Marshall is a joke.

All Barnes really is is a taller Joe Forte. Here's to having the same illustrious pro career, Harrison!

I mean shit...Joe Forte was only the conference ROY and POY (the next year of course). And crushed it in the NCAA tourney his freshmen year.

Both of them...fucking loser.

yes and Barnes was ROY and was supposed to be POY this year.

He will go pro this year and do diddly shit in the NBA, too.

[Edited on March 5, 2012 at 3:20 PM. Reason : also he has no defensive game and is worthless if he is having an off-shooting game]

Barnes need to improve his handle. He's too small for the SF in the NBA and should be primarily a SG. He can shoot well-enough, but unless you're white, you can't be that one dimensional in the league.

Looking ahead to tonight's games, as far as our bubble status goes, whom do we want to win their conference tournament?

Gonzaga/St. Mary's (they're both in anyways)
Drexel/VCU (Drexel?)
WCU/Davidson (Davidson?)
Fairfield/Loyola MD. (neither gets an at-large bid)

Sorry Catamounts, I'd pull for you otherwise. On a funny note, this ESPN video has us as both the first and the fourth team out lol http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard

Should have guessed it was Caulton Tudor. If it were up to him, he would have 4 UNC players on the 1st team.

"Caulton Tudor ?
M-Scott was my 1st pick on 2nd team all-ACC. He was just average in 2 games that mattered most -- v. NC. He had foul trouble but still."

If he wants to vote for Marshall over Scott, fine. But how can you put Barnes over Scott?

Marshall not making 1st team is retarded. Dude has the best A/TO ratio in the entire nation and is having a historic ACC season for a PG. Obviously Rivers getting in over him is a fucking joke, but Barnes too is even more bullshit. Can't believe I am actually arguing for a UNC player.

How did TDT not make the all freshman team

[Edited on March 5, 2012 at 3:50 PM. Reason : ^ God he is a piece of shit. Tudor should lose his vote for that crap. UNC homer.]

Barnes won't be a star but he's a consistent player and will have a long NBA career. I can see him developing into a very good sixth man on a contender. Hes athletic enough to get his own shot and can pass and shoot on the move. I don't think there is a single scout alive who thinks he will be a NBA bust. Certainly not a guy with a superstar ceiling either though.

No, VCU. Drexel has an RPI in the 70s and won't be in unless they win. VCU, however, is in the 50s and could be an at-large.

Drexel has 2 losses to teams with RPIs higher than 125 and the only quality win they have is...VCU.

We want VCU to win and be the only CAA team in. Mason has an RPI in the 70s as well, if anyone was wondering.

listen barnes is a good player, and he'll probably be a journeyman in the league

but for gods sake he's been a preseason all american two years in a row. He's nowhere near good enough to be that especially given the fact he was the first freshman in almost 30 years to get that nomination.

Truthfully he's the 4th best player on his team.

when Barnes was coming out of high school, he was supposed to be the next Durant or something

he was on the fucking NCAA Preseason All American First Team (not the freshman first team, the overall first team)

seeing him play for 2 seasons he reminds me of Marvin Williams

He's the fucking 2nd best player on the team after Zeller.

Marshall is a one dimensional point guard and Henson is an extremely athletic post player. Come on guys...let's not be retarded.

he's a better player than Marshall

Marshall leads the nation in assists, because he passes it to the three best players on his team

[Edited on March 5, 2012 at 5:00 PM. Reason : ^you could certainly argue that Henson is better]

You argue that Stillman White is better...that doesn't mean it's a good argument.

Barnes might not be averaging 25 a game...but he also doesn't have to. He's putting up almost 18 and 5 a game while playing under 30 minutes and he's their best three point threat, shooting 40% from beyond the arc. He's also their most reliable guy at creating a basket and can nail a shot with someone all up in his grill.

Henson is a force in the paint on the defensive side and a monster on the boards. He's developed a decent post game, but he's still not reliable and gets by on his superior athleticism. Marshall is the best assist man in the league, but he gets most of his points because defenses ignore the fuck out of him (even then, he's still only putting up 7 a game).

Zeller > Barnes > Henson/Marshall

Talent wise Barnes is probably the best player on the heels, maybe 2nd behind Henson, but in terms of importance to the team, he is 4th. If UNC lost Barnes, I don't think it impacts their team as much as if they lost one of their 7 footers or their only PG besides Whiteman Still (yeah I know it's Stillman White).

In my opinion I can't have it both ways saying Marshall should have been on first team and he not, and then say he's second best on the team at least from my perspective.

Potential and talent don't mean you're a better player in a given game or season in my opinion.

Barnes is a scorer and while I don't think he's one dimensional he's not got enough in other statistical categories to make me think he's far and away better than some of his teammates overall.

Carmelo takes a lot of shots and scores a lot of points and is solid in other areas but nobody considers him a top five player in the league for instance.

How is Barnes "more reliable" than Henson? Henson plays less than 30 minutes a game, averages 14 and 10, and actually gives effort every game. Barnes is definitely their best player when it comes to making the final shot of the game, but he also settles for way too many jumpers against smaller defenders. You know what you're going to get with Henson every game, he's consistent. You never know whether Barnes is gonna score 30 or go 3-10 from the field and be a non-factor.

Henson isn't reliable in that you can't just throw it to him in the post and get points. There's a reason why he's never topped 20 points in an ACC game. Barnes has doubled that and could get you 20pts a night if they needed him too.

Henson is a tall, athletic specimen who is slowly getting a better back to the basket game.

Harrison Barnes is still the better player.

I can't imagine there's a coach in the country that would take Barnes over Henson

Leads the conference in RPG (by a full board), 4th in FG%, 10th in scoring and of course his fucking cartoon arms

Barnes is a good scorer that's more athletic than almost anyone who matches up with him

If he played like he gave a shit, he could be a national player of the year

Lots of players can match Barnes' contributions, few can match Henson
