word is there is mutual interest between Kelvin Hayden and the Panthers...not glamorous, but if he signs it's better than what we have now

I saw one of the players say he was hanging out with him yesterday on twitter. Can't remember who though.

^ Where's the west coast offense talk coming from? I've heard the new offense looks more like the Chargers offense.

i think the offense has some elements of a west coast offense, as far as using a lot of 3 and 5 step drops with quick passes, and ol' Cam running the ball here and there. but i don't think it's a pure west coast system they are going to use, just some elements in certain sets.

West Coast offense = slants, quick outs, and swing/dumpoff passes to get nearly a guaranteed reception and then let the receiver make a play or break a tackle for a big gain.

Didn't see really any of this yesterday myself and it is the first I had heard of it.They ran intermediate/deep routes and we went vertical down the field with Chud's playcalls during the scrimmage portion yesterday.

I did notice that Cam worked out of the gun a lot more than lolsen yesterday though and forgot to add that in my earlier post.

I'm guessing these are our four RB's

Raphael: Sutton

Michelangelo : Goodson

[Edited on August 7, 2011 at 11:36 PM. Reason : guessing Goodson is Michelanglo because his first name is Mike ... and he's a party dude]

from an article on Sean McDermott, the greatest last name of all time was unearthed:

Vote before anyone does anything rash

A) Separate thread for each game this year

B) Separate thread for preseason, then a new thread for the season

C) One giant clusterfuck thread

I vote for B...the every game thing only works when we're winning consistently.

if we make the playoffs though (lol), we obviously make separate game threads for playoff games

"The Panthers already have $91.6 million committed toward the cap in 2014. The Green Bay Packers are next at $62 million and most teams are around $30 million to $40 million. Heck, the Cleveland Browns are last with $17.7 million scheduled against the cap that year."

Quote :
"In 2015, with Charles Johnson slated to have a $15 million cap figure, the Panthers have $61 million committed to the cap and that’s made up of exactly six players (Johnson, James Anderson, Jon Beason, DeAngelo Williams, Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis) currently under contract through that year. Only the San Diego Chargers are even remotely close at $43 million."

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/23409/panthers-will-face-future-cap-challenges

i assume that the salary cap figure in 2014 will be high enough to accommodate some of these salaries (no idea how much it will rise by 2014), but they're going to need to restructure some contracts around 2013-2014 if they want to be able to re-sign the current young players who may blow up, and to sign future free agents

Quote :
"When Armanti Edwards was in the Wildcat, Cam Newton was split out wide at receiver."

Quote :
"Panthers now working DeAngelo Williams in the Wildcat. He pitches out to Steve Smith, who runs it. Jeff Davidson a distant memory."

http://www.catscratchreader.com/ posted an article indicating that several Panthers records are likely to be broken this year and is taking guesses as to what quarter or what game the record would be broken in, if at all. I thought TWW should get in, so....

1) Steve Smith needs 372 yards to eclipse Muhsin Muhammad as the Panthers' all time leading receiver.

This record will be broken_________________.

2) Chris Gamble needs 2 INTs to best Eric Davis as the Panthers' all time leader in interceptions

This record will be broken_________________.

3) Jonathan Stewart needs 598 yards to move past DeShaun Foster to be #2 on the all time rushing list.

This record will be broken_________________.

My personal guesses are: 1) 1st quarter of week 7 against Washington, 2) 3rd quarter of week 11 against Detriot, & 3) 2nd quarter of week 10 against Tenn.

why are they calling armanti's plays the wildcat? he's the second best qb on the roster. and I don't say that as an endorsement of him

I just read today that Smith, Gettis and Naanee were taking all the snaps in the 3-wide sets in practice. Meaning that Lafell is #4 in the pecking order

also,

Quote :
"The Panthers plan to use CB Chris Gamble to shadow the opponent's top receiver.
Gamble has lost 10 pounds in an effort to regain quickness. He's no Darrelle Revis, so this shouldn't be a major fantasy story. It's been two years since he's played at a consistently high level in pass coverage.
"

Good job, Tree, too bad Cam will be horrific in this offense this season. Actually, it is a terrible offense for a QB like Cam.

Derek Anderson had his best season (pro-bowl browns) under the panthers new OC. Cam needs some sort of spread offense to utilize his legs and not get creamed behind the line and throw INTs because of his stupidity, like you see in the youtube vid above.

It is the chargers offense...it is the Brady Quinn shuts the bed offense. Cam is going to turn around and see one outlet within 10 yards of him covered and everyone else 25+ yards down the field, and Cam will shut the bed.

Derek Flanderson -2011

In the video I embedded above, he certainly makes some mistakes, but also shows some pretty decent plays as well, especially considering he's had the playbook for maybe 2 weeks, didn't have OTAs, has played in a shortened training camp, etc

I'm basically just shitting on Clausen in my last post, I think Cam can do alright this year. Certainly better than Clausen did last year.

haha. He did ok in that video honestly. I'm just here to spread pessimism among the 1-15 panther fans.

But, it's the truth that DA had his best season under Chud. But, he's been terrible ever since. I will be pulling for Fig Newton, just because I have to watch this team every sunday.

even if/when we suck this year, it should be more entertaining than last year when we not only sucked, but also were boring as shit to watch
