Aaron, most of your questions have already been answered, multiple times.
Can you name some other athletes who use their status to promote other things in a simimlar way as Tebow? 11/22/2011 10:27:56 AM |

Can you name what he has done besides kneel after TDs (I already pointed on that many athletes point to the sky after TDs), says I would like the thank God in post-game interviews (mutiple athletes do this as well), painted his eye black, and had one damn commercial (I'm pretty sure Reggie White, the Minister of Defense, had some Christian based commercials before his playing days for over)?

^^I'm not very familiar w/ Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf , he's not nearly as high profile as Tebow, and he hasn't played in the NBA in a decade. What else did he do, besides the whole national anthem thing? He seems like a douche because of that spectacle.
Manute Bol (RIP) hasn't played professional athletics since the mid-90s, but I think his activism was highly commendable.

^^^ That was supposed to be this season.
It requires the Broncos to actually get someone with a better ability not to lose games than Tebow has exhibited.
Also, someone the team can potentially rally around. They obviously think Tebow can win even if the coaches don't, so if they want to replace Tebow and not screw up the rest of the team then they need to get someone else in that can actually lead.

He was Chris Jackson at LSU in 1988, and 1989. Two-time All America, two time SEC POY, set the NCAA freshman scoring record (still stands). 3rd pick in the NBA draft after his sophmore season.
He's about equal profile as Tim Tebow, excepting that he played in the past and Tebow plays right now.
ETA: Him and Bol came to mind for me just because I haven't paid the attention to pro sports now like I did then

wtf, Tebow is not a bigot, nor supports bigotry
A bigot is someone that's intolerant to other people's beliefs, which is pretty much everyone in this thread bitching about Tebow. Not ONCE have I heard Tebow be intolerant towards someone else. Disagree with other opinions? Sure. Passionate about his OWN beliefs. Sure. But that's not bigotry, bigotry is intolerance shown towards others.

Oh, and Ty Cobb was a bigot. Tebow's just a churchie. Could care less what athletes do/support/say. What matters is what they do on the field... and right now, Tebow hasn't done enough on the field to qualify as "great" or "terrible."

I'm sick to my stomach of the DeSean Jackson, T.O., Michael Vick, dreadlocked, me first players...in any sport really. Rex Ryan - big mouths show offs....yuck. Enough.
I love Tebow and as a panthers fan i don't care about other teams - but this guy makes me pay attention - not because of the constant and over analysed coverage...but because he's a breath of fresh air as a person. Its why i loved Rivers when he was at State. Its OK to be humble, tam first, give the cliche answers but ACTUALLY MEAN THEM and just because you love your faith, you can still be cool...he wants to be a role model and do things right....i mean c'mon...thanks god there's one out there...
I hope denver squeaks into the playoffs and shocks someone in the 1st round game.

I was merely listing off names of the types of players i currently dislike and the aura of what makes up what i dislike in a 2011 athlete...(the racism thing is totally out of line) I don't care what color the player is - i care how he or she acts and respects the game...
I root for the team, in 99 cases of 100. The dreadlock remark was just an off the cuff example of the idea of appearance calling attention to yourself....i.e. T.O., Chad Johnson, Stevie Johnson, celebrations...how you act doesn't determine your race you know. I dislike how they act.

This is why i take long breaks from TWW....you've got to be kidding...
Maybe i should spell this out slower so this brain dead idiot can refocus on the topic instead of this racism witch-hunt
What i meant and what i should have said is the following....
I hate the type of athlete that draws attention to him or herself and acts in a manner of such. I also dislike the antics of planning your appearance in a manner to draw attention to yourself and away from your team....
I.E. - i hate Troy Polomaus hair, i hate Torrey Smiths dread locks, i hate brian wilsons stupid beard, i hate desean Jacksons ball flip to the coach of an opponent, i hate when Chipper Jones or Ryan Klesko posed for 10 seconds to watch a home run and show up the pitcher....
i hate anything in sports 'me first'......thus i think tim tebow is a breath of fresh air because he is not me first and he is not ashamed of it...
..........is that better????????????

What if he promoted islam and said "allah akbar" after every good play? What if he was on a crusade to promote the theory of global warming? What if he painted "pro-choice" on his face and talked about that in his interviews? What if he used his status to promote the NACCP in a very vocal manner? What if he was a devout atheist and he constantly preached that? What if constantly talked about how America oppresses other countries? What if he spoke out against the war in AFghanistan and Iraq?

well, i'm pretty sure almost ALL people believe in good sportmanship and breast cancer research. religion and politics are different things.
and i'd still find it pretty annoying if he promoted breast cancer research in the same manner that he promotes his religion.
i think that for most people who find it annoying, it's not so much the "what" (religion), it the "how" (very vocally and at every oppurtunity). of course, it doesn't help that the "what" is a very polarizing issue that many people disagree with.
Quote : | "but that's still just a reflection of YOUR beliefs." |
i don't beleive in a god, but if he promoted atheism the same way he promotes christianity, i'd still find it highly annoying. if he wasn't so vocal about it (like the hundreds of other athletes), it wouldn't be so annoying.
i'm not sure what you're getting at with your "communist china" comment, but if that's what he promoted, i certainly find that annoying too.

(and as an aside, he chooses to publically promote a personal belief that he knows is polarizing and that many don't agree with)
Please, defenders, answer me this: Would you defend him if he publically promoted, in the same way he does his faith, any of the other examples that have been given? Seriouslly? It's not just the media exploiting it, Tebow certainly asked for and wanted the attention.
