Quote : | "Andrew Jones Wolfpackers: There's a coach out there who's a perfect fit
Hey, Wolfpack fans, there’s a coach out there in a major conference who considers running N.C. State’s basketball program a “dream” gig. For reasons known only to the Wolfpack brass in charge of the search, he hasn’t been contacted yet. His name can’t be mentioned here, but decide for yourself if he’d be a good choice. What if I told you this man greatly respects the program’s terrific tradition and would aspire to live up to the expectations he believes should routinely accompany an N.C. State basketball season? What if I told you he would consider it an honor to sit in the same seat that Everett Case, Norm Sloan and Jim Valvano once did? What if I told you this person knows N.C. State fans, understands how you view the college basketball world around you and would strive to give you the success he believes Wolfpack Nation deserves? What if I told you this person possesses the outward energy your previous coach didn’t? What if I told you this man can recruit like the dickens and would find bringing talented hoopsters to Raleigh easier than at his current post? What if I told you he would employ an up-tempo approach and has already proven an ability to teach teams to rebound AS TEAMS? What if I told you he would change defenses when necessary? What if I told you he would call a timeout and get all over his team if its effort is lacking? What if I told you he has several end-of-game plays, some of which have worked at the major college level? What if I told you he has visions of using talented big men, understanding you run the offense through them? What if I told you he’s already earned a few national honors at the highest level? What if I told you he doesn’t view North Carolina and Duke being up the road as a detriment, but a positive? What if I told you he believes N.C. State can compete with UNC and Duke on a regular basis? What if I told you he recognizes how hard a coaching staff must work to get the program to where it annually competes with the Tar Heels and Blue Devils, and is willing to do whatever it takes within the rules to accomplish that? What if I told you he has worked for winners at almost every coaching stop? What if I told you he has a wonderful personality, is engaging and truly a gentleman? What if I told you he would run a clean program and genuinely cared about his players? What if I told you he’d be great with the media and wonderful in his dealings with the public, notably the fans? What if I told you he’d unite the fan base shortly after his hiring, something most of you know is badly needed? What if I told you he’d be quite happy settling in North Carolina for the rest of his life? What if I told you he’d leave a very good job to come to N.C. State in a millisecond? What if I told you this man would embrace Wolfpack red as if it was meant to be? What if I told you he’s just a phone call away? " |

Whoever we get needs to bring back some tradition to our program and get some new uniforms in the works. A plain red and white jersey with "STATE" on the front and plain red shorts (longer than the ones in the picture) with "PACK" on the bottom.

i think the coach can pick the uniform
if i were a new hc coming in, i wouldn't want to go back to classic jerseys unless i was a former player or something. i'd rather come in with something new, to mark the beginning of my era. 4/13/2006 9:26:21 AM |

What I am saying while the coach can pick the design I don't think it is in his power to change NC State to State, the university has done a heft marketing campaign to ensure that the identity of this university is NC State, NCSU, State or other original connotations of the name.
That is why when watching games you see in the scoreboard, NCST not NCSU so people will read it as NC State.

that is what i am refering to as well, it is all involved in the marketing campaign to have the school's brand be known as NC State. 4/13/2006 9:56:17 AM |

Fowler decided to let someone from tww be the next coach. He saw that so many people on here "know" whats best for the program, that he didnt need to turn to an actual coach. 4/13/2006 12:30:44 PM |

I think he could be talking about Doherty. The writer emailed someone on pack pride and said he couldn't give the name right now to protect the coach, and he wanted to get pack fans reaction based only on what he wrote, without a name. This leads me to believe that it's someone that most pack fans wouldn't want if they knew the name. My bet is Doherty. It would take a while to get used to a UNC guy coaching us but I don't think he would be a bad hire. 4/13/2006 2:34:57 PM |

could very well be Doh, but I dont know with him talking about all the tradition and all that
it would be extremely bad having heel fans saying that we had to get one of their guys
I hope its not Doh but damn if he doesnt need to tell us who it is. My guess is Whitt. 4/13/2006 2:53:07 PM |

Doh wouldn't be a bad hire but I'm not sure if it'd be appealing to the fanbase.

Whoever we offer the job to next will be our coach.
ESPN: NC State can't swing and miss a third time, which is why multiple sources expect the Wolfpack to lock in a candidate they know will say yes. The Wolfpack have already been spurned by Texas' Rick Barnes and Memphis' John Calipari in their attempt to find a replacement for Herb Sendek (off to Arizona State).
There is a host of different ways they could turn, like toward LSU's John Brady, Miami's Frank Haith, George Mason's Jim Larranaga or even ESPN analyst Steve Lavin, but the bottom line is they can't make a mistake again.
NC State athletic director Lee Fowler already has proven to the rabid fan base that he is intent on pursuing a top candidate. He failed to nab one of them, but both were likely long shots.
Now, he'll need to go with a safe pick from this point forward. Whomever he brings in now knows he's No. 3. He has to accept that he wasn't the first or even second choice. Some coaches may not want that tag; others may not care. Certainly, coaches at a lower level -- like Winthrop's Gregg Marshall -- would jump at the chance to be in the ACC, regardless of the pecking order. 4/13/2006 3:04:29 PM |

$2 million a year does a lot of persuasion. taking a job for that amount with Lee Fowler as the AD would allow a person to ride this program into the ground and make a fortune in the process. 4/13/2006 8:39:31 PM |

i'd like for them to go after mark few. i know he signed a contract extension but big deal.
for that guy who doesn't know Quote : | "After Gonzaga's 1999 success and Monson's departure, many observers thought that the Zags would be a one-year wonder and go back to their previous obscurity. Few immediately proved them wrong, leading them into the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in his first two years heading the program. This made him one of only two coaches to lead his team to Sweet Sixteen berths in his first two years as a head coach since the NCAA tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. The following year (2001-02), Few set an all-time record for NCAA Division I men's coaches by collecting 81 wins in his first three years as a head coach. The program's success has continued; Gonzaga has made the NCAA tournament in each year of Few's tenure, and the school opened a new arena, the McCarthey Athletic Center, in 2004. Few has also been named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year in six consecutive seasons (2001 through 2006); the only season to date that he did not receive this award was his first season as head coach (1999-2000).
As of the end of the 2005-06 season, his record as Gonzaga head coach stands at 188-41. During his time as head coach, the Gonzaga program produced its first-ever first-team All-American in Dan Dickau, other future NBA players in Blake Stepp and Ronny Turiaf, and current Player of the Year candidate and the country's leading scorer Adam Morrison. In 2005, he signed a contract extension that will keep him at Gonzaga through 2015." | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Few4/14/2006 12:57:04 AM |

Ok, I used to see this guy talked about while herb was still here, but I havent really seen him as a possible candidate.
But what about John Beilein?
He basically lost his whole team at WVU, pittsnogle gone, gansey (i think) gone, and his son graduating, he might think about coming to more money and talent. Not sure what the PP guys would say, because his offense is vaugely similar to herb's, but I think he should be in consideration. 4/14/2006 1:17:30 AM |
