Here's a quick list I put together for ++NCSU game-viewing; not exhaustive and hasn't been proof-read. Texas is debatable, I guess, for RPI reasons:

12 PM: ECU/S. MISS -- S. MISS LOSS = GOOD FOR NCSU
1 PM: NCST/BC -- MUST WIN STATE GAME (Obviously)
2 PM: OREGON ST/WASHINGTON -- WASHINGTON LOSES = GOOD FOR NCSU
4:30 PM: UCLA/ARIZONA -- ARIZONA LOSES = GOOD FOR NCSU
4:30 PM: MINNESOTA/NORTHWESTERN -- NORTHWESTERN LOSES = GOOD FOR NCSU
4:30 PM: TCU/CSU -- CSU LOSES = GOOD FOR NCSU

----
Probably good time to eat here or accomplish whatever goals you have for the next couple of days while you still have time.
6 PM: VA TECH/CLEMSON -- CLEMSON LOSES = GOOD FOR NCSU (fuck Clemson anyway)
----

7 PM: USF/ND -- USF LOSS = GOOD FOR NCSU
8 PM: STANFORD/CAL -- CAL LOSS = GOOD FOR NCSU
8 PM: GA TECH/MIAMI -- GA TECH LOSS + MIAMI LOSS TOMORROW = GR8 FOR NCSU edited for RPI reasons
8:30 PM: ISU/TEXAS -- TEXAS LOSS = GOOD FOR NCSU
10:30 PM: COLORADO/OREGON -- OREGON LOSS = GOOD FOR NCSU

I guess none of this shit really matters if State loses.

Oh yeah, times are CST.

good list...but arguably we might want Texas and Miami to win 1 game, then lose tomorrow...tough call

Probably not. I was looking at that and thought I saw 8-8 Clemson on the bubble somewhere but now I can't find that, so I'll scratch that out.

I think I might just be still upset about the game a couple Saturday's ago. So fuck Clemson.

yeah we want Miami to win today and lose tomorrow. Just by playing GT drops Miami out of the RPI top 50 (which gives us zero top 50 RPI wins), but once they play Florida State they should get back into the top 50 RPI - win or lose.

Mandel article about Northwestern's NCAA hopes. Sounds way too similar to us:

Quote :
"The Wildcats held serve, going 7-2 against the five teams beneath them and 1-8 against the six above them. Their one signature win came back on Jan. 14 against conference co-champion Michigan State.

The selection committee places much emphasis on schedule strength, and to its credit, Northwestern has played the nation's 14th-toughest schedule, according to CollegeRPI.com. But playing a team and beating a team are two different things. Northwestern finished the regular season 1-10 against RPI Top 50 opponents. Let me repeat that: 1-10."

Other than their 8-10 conference record, it sound like they have a slightly better resume than us. We really need them to lose to Minnesota today.

Also, there was this:
Quote :
""Making the tourney is not a mediocre accomplishment," said another. "Ask fans of Iowa, or NC State or any other number of schools that used to think that it was a given to go to the tourney but haven't been in a while.""

Lol the PAC 12 has one team in the RPI top 50. Worst major conference ever?

^^ Losing to ECU would probably fuck up their RPI a bit and they are from C-USA. At this point, they aren't a lock for the NCAA-T. So if they aren't a lock, let them lose unless losing would hurt our RPI.

I think they are probably a lock. Their RPI is under 20. It will be 20 something at worst. At this point, losing to shitty teams barely hurts your RPI. I think it would be better to root for them so as to avoid a team stealing a bid from that conference.

Not like rooting for a team influences the outcome. but ya know.

Well, ECU isn't going to win the C-USA tournament. And every little bit helps....

But yeah I mean I was just going through the list of games today and flagging anyone who was on the ESPN bubble list and wasn't a lock.

More importantly, Southern Miss played South Florida and beat South Florida.

So a Southern Miss loss would hurt South Florida.

I don't think ECU played anyone important. But when you start doing opponents opponents, it gets complicated.

That's great and I obviously realized that given my edit where I said that it's an article that's whole premise is to nitpick things. But to say they have had more talent through the years is factually incorrect. You can look up recruiting rankings. Those players were better because they were coached up, not because they were more naturally gifted.

I mean the Duke '99 game was practically an offensive gameplan clinic. K had no clue how to combat it. That assistant coach is either an idiot or hasn't been around very long.

I seriously couldn't believe when I found out they have NEVER made the tournament. It's a record just like Clemson's ineptitude at Chapel Hill. Hard to play for so long and do that...

^^ I don't want to belabor this in the thread much more but the whole point is that they don't (and have never) run an offense but won because they had more talent than the other team... I disagree.

I find it hard to believe that a hall of fame coach with more national titles than all but three (or four) coaches who ever lived and dozens of NBA players has never ran an offense and won on talent (despite that talent not being of the level of a Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc).

If I'm missing the point, please fill me in because I feel like it's pretty straightforward, but I could be wrong.

So with Washington losing, we should probably be rooting for Cal to beat Stanford and win the tourny. Root for Oregon and Zona to lose. Cal is probably a tourny lock and we dont want someone stealing a bid by winning the tournament. So we should root for cal, because that is the only way pac 12 is a 1 bid league.
