Jackson, Floyd, and Naanee. Tall, rangy, and fast WRs. He also had Darren Sproles out of the backfield. Was Jackson hurt a lot that year?? I can't remember. They also had Gates.
Easily top 10 corps in the league.10/16/2012 11:26:51 AM |

Is that not what drew brees is? If you're going to break a QB down into 3 adjectives that is instead of judging them more closely. 10/16/2012 11:27:20 AM |

^^^ Uh, I don't know if you just quoted the wrong thing there? Are you replying to the 2010 recieving corp question?
If so, remember that Jackson held out for 10 weeks and only played sparingly after that. Floyd and Gates both missed multiple games due to injury.
^ Unless you plan on going into a deeper analysis, then yeah.

Gates also crushed it in the games he played. I think he had the second most TDs in his career. Jackson was out...but they still had big WRs and Sproles.
Definitely not a bad set of guys. 10/16/2012 11:34:13 AM |

Rivers needs a pocket to step into. Everybody knows that he can't throw off his back foot or on the run. The offensive line has been shit for 2 years now, and it's killing him.
Give him a decent OLine and he'll play like a top-10 QB. Not even a great line, just a decent one where he can set his feet before throwing. Also, he really shouldn't be in Norv's offense. Norv is all about the vertical passing game, and Rivers doesn't really have the armstrength to make all the throws. Put him in a Payton or Garrett-style spread offense and he'll do much better.
Hopefully this season results in Norv getting fired and a few linemen being drafted, and we can see what Rivers is capable of with a play-caller who is not stuck in the 90's. But it's very possible that the new coach goes in a different direction, and Rivers has to try to ressurect his career in a shithole like Cleveland or Jacksonville.

People thought he was going to be good...just that he was buried behind a lot of WRs in San Diego.
There was a good deal of optimism when Carolina signed him.
Lol at this being his profile pic on wikipedia:

I agree with jbrick on this one. Rivers has simply regressed the past couple years and is a fringe Top-15 QB. He and Romo are the most frustrating QBs to follow/watch/own in fantasy.
Hopefully Norv will finally get fired, Rivers can start working with a new coach and rejunvenate his career next year. It's sad to see him on the downslide when he should have still been in his prime. I still don't understand some of the decision making. It's like he's turned into Cutler now. Plus he needs to learn to stop damn fumbling everytime he gets hit.

Holding the ball around his waist doesn't help. It's in perfect position for defenders coming around the edge to slap down on.10/16/2012 1:52:44 PM |

He does fumble too much, but the one last night for a TD was all on the offensive line. Everyone fumbles when they hit the ball while you're throwing, if you were holding onto the ball securely you wouln't be able to throw.
He didn't hold it too long, just didn't get any protection. 10/16/2012 2:05:10 PM |

^^^yeah that particular fumble was protection breakdown. RW's fumble was pretty much identical.
the other one was on him.
3 out of his four interceptions were bad/forced decisions. The other one was a timing route where it wasn't quite clear if Royal was interfered with or if he gave up on the route.

One thing that has amazed me about Rivers career is that he's somewhat linked with many of the other great/good QBs in football. It is weird in my opinion, but I'm sure it's just me:
1. Eli - traded for each other on draft day, I've always wanted Rivers to do better than Eli. 2. Brees - SD kept Rivers over the injured Brees, same thing as above. 3. Roethlisberger - drafted behind Rivers and Eli, same thing as above. 4. Cutler - SD-Denver rivalry, Rivers was/is the better QB 5. Brady/Peyton - battling these two icons for the AFC during their primes, weak link, but he almost joined these guys in the elite. 6. Schaub - went H2H in college for multiple years, weak link as well.
I don't really think of any other QBs in this nature except for maybe Eli and comparing him to Peyton. 10/16/2012 3:53:35 PM |

he's definitely been making bad decisions, trying to force things that aren't there, that result in to him morphing into Bronco-era Jay Cutler
To be somewhat fair, AJ Smith has fucked the team over in terms of talent pipeline. His receivers are mediocre, the running game is subpar, the OL is mediocre, and the defense hasn't looked good since Wade Philips left for Dallas.
He pretty much has to do it all. It doesn't help when Norv calls designed rollouts for the most immobile QB in the NFL. SD is the west coast Panthers in terms of organizational ineptitude.
It's similar to what he had to deal with in college. PR was the best QB in the history of the ACC and the team never finished better than 4th in the conference. 11/12/2012 8:46:29 AM |

I mean, the only receiver he can count on right now is Malcolm Floyd and he is little more than the special teams demon he used to be. Ridiculous how they screwed that offense over. 12/3/2012 11:20:21 AM |
