Deepholm was awesome. Harrison Jones was awesome. Twilight Highlands was awesome.

Basically I got out of Vashjr as quickly as I could and had a blast. Finally got my avg item level up to do heroics last night. Hopefully one of our healers gets of their ass to join us cause randoms are sucking hard at the moment.

Oh, and the gear difference between 333 blues and 82-83s questing in Deepholm is staggering. While fishing up some lavascale I was straight wrecking the Alliance. I started Cataclysm with 35k hp and now I have over 90k in my pve gear (warlock). I don't even switch to resil gear, but I probably would if I saw other 85s.

switched to hyjal, liking that zone much better. Leveling is not as bad as i thought. Just playing a few hours i'm almost 82.

If you're interested in leveling faster and getting better gear ditch hyjal the instant you get 82 and go back and finish quests later. Do the same for Deepholm at 83 and Uldum at 84. The exp rewards for mobs and quests jumps substantially between the zones. (and the gear too)

hit 84 last night.

everything is a lot more challenging. A Few guildies were running heroics last night - vent is almost required now for 5 man heroics. The days of random pugging heroics are done for awhile.

Yes, heroics are a pain in the ass. You must CC. In Grim Batol I was fearing one, banishing one, seducing one. And still dps.

I finally found a good one but man we were having trouble with the 3rd boss of Blackrock Caverns, Karsh Steelbender. We finally just blasted the fuck out of him and didn't even spawn any adds. Accidentally got the "Too Hot to Handle" achievement while we were at it. Me and the shaman had 17k dps. Makes me want to go back to ICC with the 30% buff and see what I can do.

Of course, with over 600 hit rating I'll be missing 3% of the time on bosses. Lousy stat scaling.

10 man Halfus, #1 dps as a prot warrior tanking the whelps and Halfus. I solo'd the whelps down while the rest of the group killed the Storm Rider and the Time Warden. I was also interrupting the Shadow Nova on Halfus with a DK that was also AOE'ing the whelps (he's not on the top 5). I was sitting at 32k attack power for most of the fight, went up to 43k when I has Last Stand up.

I'm thinking they might nerf Vengeance but I hope not. My health isn't going to increase as fast as dps will.

Did my first heroic yesterday and it was a pug. 333 Prot pally and thankfully there was a sheep, sap and trap with pally heals. It was H Deadmines. It took us a while but we managed to get it done. The biggest problem for us was Ripsnarl. Either the vapors weren't going down before they got too big or Ripsnarl had 20 stacks for too long and just whooped my ass. After about 4-5 attempts we got him down and proceeded to one shot Cookie and only wiped on the spider nightmare because none of us had done it before and thought that we had to pull the room. Derp!

Is anyone here a healing priest? My friend has been Disc forever and for the first time is having serious mana issues. I know they were making healer mana an issue, but I've had holy pallys and resto shamans that only went oom on bosses.

Mana issues are huge for the priest right now. Just about any healer. This is the design they are going for.

I'm not certain they will. I was the only person full time AoE'ing the adds and I was doing it with full Vengeance (extra 17.5k ap). That's all I did besides interrupt Halfus. Everyone else was single targeting the Storm Rider and then the Time Warden. If they nerfed Vengeance my single target threat would be insufficient and they'd have to tack on more innate threat into my single target abilities. They literally just did the opposite before Cata came out.

If they do nerf Vengeance, and I'm not sure they will, it'll probably be halfway through Firelands before that happens. They'll wait and see what happens once DPS gets geared. I'm currently the best geared person in my guild and the second best on the server.

If you remember back to the beginning of Wrath tanks did more damage than DPS did at the beginning of heroics, that changed once everyone got gear. As DPS gets more gear their DPS will go up. As I get more gear Vengeance will scale even higher BUT my avoidance will counteract that and keep it from stacking up as high as it could in heroics and trivial content.

Also remember back to the days of DK's being able to keep up massive cooldowns almost 100% of the time. That was an issue from day 1 of Wrath and wasn't addressed until I was 10/12 hardmodes in Ulduar. It was well over 6 months of them waiting and seeing what was going to happen. They won't make any changes that quickly. It's not like you can just stack Prot Warriors and have DPS like that, it only works if you are taking shitloads of damage at the same time and for AoE, my single target DPS is nowhere near that high.

Did you start in Blackwing Descent? And were you with them? We started in Bastion of Twilight and got Halfus with the Shadownova Aura, Storm Rider, Whelp Cage and Time Warden. Took us about 2.5 hours to kill while developing the strat to do so. Significantly harder than Naxx, imo, more like hard mode Ulduar level.

We probably should have started in BWD though, I heard the bosses in there are a lot easier.

Did did 10m tol barad last night in my green gear.

We wiped a few times on the boss but got it on the 3rd try. Definitely a dps race. Healing was pretty easy. Me and a paladin two healed it.

Did a few attempts on omitron defense, got it to 75% on first try. Doable with better gear.

Conclave of Wind is a complete joke... we had no clue what was going on and ended up 2 shotting it the first night.

Halfus is easy when you learn the fight. The drakes that are active are random, though.

10 man seems to be quite a bit harder than 25. There are guilds on our server with less gear and intelligence destroying 25 man and we are struggling for every kill in 10 man. I don't know if Magmaw is even possible on 10 man without it bugging out so you can chain impale him. There's so much damage going out to the raid that the healers are oom by 85% doing the bare minimum to keep people alive. It's insane.

We got our second kill of Halfus tonight. I think we had the hardest combo possible: Nether Scion, Storm Rider and Emerald Whelp Pack. That means he's got both Shadow Wrapped and Frenzied Assault buffs. I did even more dps tonight than I did last time.

I'm 4th in the world for dps on that fight. The tank at #1 did 2 million less damage than I did and his fight was significantly shorter. I was at 53k before the whelps died which slowly came down to 35.6k. If we had killed him faster my dps would have been a lot higher, probably enough for the top spot.

Well, maybe I exaggerated... It sucked soft asshole, then.

My main complaint with Wrath was that they made everything far too easy. No raid should be PUG-able, imo. I don't want things to return to the needlessly-restrictive raiding structure of vanilla WoW, but I think mid-BC-era WoW struck a great balance between ease-of-access and barrier-to-entry and I was very disappointed to see them depart so far from that.

My more specific complaints are things like mana becoming a basically pointless stat due to everyone having so much of it relative to the mana consumption of spells, and other sorts of picky balance-related and mechanic-related things. I also didn't like the graphical change they did to warlock drain spells, but that's just petty and meaningless bitching.

My more vague complaints are that everything was just really fucking boring for reasons I can't pinpoint or articulate... but this one might have just been a product of me having finally had my fill of WoW. I also hate having achievements in non-console games, but again this is for reasons I cannot adequately explain.

One of my friends has told me basically the same thing, that the game's trying to return to the BC-era difficulty scale.

If there weren't so many awesome games coming out in Febuary 2011, I might actually pay up and return to WoW. Hell, I still might, if my schedule isn't too busy next semester. Not looking forward to the level-up grind either way, though I've been told it's pretty quick this time.

So I read that Deepholm is supposed to be saturated with Elementium even after the nerf but for the life of me I managed a whopping 41 after like half an hour. Did I just pick a bad time or should I be somewhere else? Hell, I ended up with more Obsidium from there than what I actually wanted.

I've been playing and honestly I don't remember ANYTHING I've done. It's been a pointless blur. 5mans are silly. I'm almost 85, and am hoping rated bg's and arenas save it for me since I hear spriest/rogue is back since shadow isnt complete lol anymore. If I can't get a committed bg team reminiscent of the hwl grind days, I'm done with the game.


what's sad is that they honestly topped the questing of wotlk which I think had the best zones and questing story arcs the game previously had to offer.

Gearscore is helpful, but not so much at the level you're at now. Ratingbuster is helpful when you're new to gear stats. FuBar lets you put a lot of good stuff at the top of your screen. I keep PeformanceFu, GuildFu, and MoneyFu plugins up all the time, along with some less important stuff. Recount is what you use to keep track of DPS and stuff - you definitely want that if little else.

If you're a healer, Healbot lets you be lazy as hell from the beginning, and is almost a must-have later on. I use X-Perl, MetaHud-Revived, and Dominoes for my interface, which you may or may not like.

I use a lot more addons, but those are all I consider "essential" to play comfortably.

Clique and Grid are the two best mods I've ever used for healing and they don't make your effort pointless like Healbot. It would also be prudent to make your own mouse over healing macros so when major patches hit and destroy mods for a time like they have a tendency to do. Grid is just a very nice, highly customizable raid frame. Hell, I rely on it for tanking as well.

The biggest mod/addon advice I can give though is to avoid any of those big addon packages like Cosmos (what a waste of an awesome name and is it even still around?). It will clutter up your UI with tons of confusing junk, most of which you won't ever need. My take on addons are if you don't like the stock bars, get something like Bartender4. Don't like the unit frames? Get X-perl. Change your UI piece by piece to where you know how and what was changed. Personally, I also like something called IceHUD which keeps me from having to look up at the top corner to see my health/mana so I know if I need to pop a cooldown or how much health my target has. There are a few mandatory addons if you ever get into raiding, but we can save that for after your 10 day trial.
