Well, relatives. If you're used to driving a 250hp 2000lbs car, most things are going to feel slow. The 911 cuts the cheese for me, however a slow2k is slower than a V6 Accord(!) or Maxima, so yeah...

Saw Quinn haul a torque wrench in his car tonight.

Pretty much doubled the potential torque output of the S2000.

if you drive an S2000 casually it doesn't feel fast at all.

I kid, I kid... OK, only partially.

So yesterday I picked up a Saab 9-3 with Konis, sway bars, springs, etc. and at first I thought it was broken, it felt so slow. Trouble is not with the S2000, problem is people adopt. I'm sure Quinn didn't think his S2k was slow when he bought it, or he would not have, but once you experience the awesome PoWR!!1 of the turbo Civic, other cars feel slow, since... by comparison they are slow.

^^ That's how I feel about the 944. and it's not even that fast really...

And god, I don't know what I'll ever do without torque. It's so nice having power at your foot, regardless if you are at 2k, 4k, or 6k rpm...

Is that picked up, as in, purchased?

I did purchase it yes, but it's for the girlfriend. It's a pretty cool car, I actually wanted it for myself but oh well. Has lots of optional cool bits on it, and it'll probably be at CMP (she didn't want to drive the 911)...

Quinn, when do you need help? I'll be around the next few days, holla.

so...I'm working on procurement of either a Boxster S or a Z4 3.0. If either of those deals go through, I'll have an S2000 on the market for you guys at a pretty affordable price (under $10k).

From a performance point of view, what's the interest in the Z4 3.0? It's really just a heavier, (much) uglier, more expensive, and torquier S2000

If only the S2k engine came from the factory in a RWD car that was a bit lighter, like a Miata. Then the relative lack of low-end torque would not be so bad and it would actually make a quick, efficient car.

Good luck finding an affordable convertible with the structural rigidity of the S2000 and the weight of a Miata

^^ Well, two things for ya roller bitch:

1. I never said it had to be a convertible.
2. I also didn't say any such vehicle existed.
3. I see no reason to think that you can't get a lightweight car to be sufficiently rigid for such an application (Elise/Exige?!).

^ I've abandoned that idea in favor of an LS3 swap with cam/heads. The issue currently is funds son. I've brought up an S2k engine in a Miata two times son, hardly a constant topic of discussion. It's just that the S2k's engine is highly suitable for a lightweight chassis like a Miata or Elise/Exige IMO. Although if I were doing an N/A 4-cylinder swap, it would be a K20 if I could make it work honestly. I'd prefer the K20 son.

http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?dept=115

http://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/green99/index.php (This one has an LS3 swap son)

Quote :
"Overall, the car gains less than 200 lbs with 1/3 of that on the rear wheels. In other words, the car does not become a nose-heavy beast. To put things in perspective, one of our SuperFour Challenge turbo Miatas came in at almost exactly the same weight and distribution. From the outside, the car looks completely stock. The ground clearance is unchanged and nothing needs to be altered on the body. As long as the engine is off, it's a great sleeper. But once you fire it up, there's no mistaking what's underhood."

The LS3 swap results in a SLIGHT increase in power over stock...

^^^^^ found a potentially really good deal on one, and it would be a better daily driver/road tripper, while still good for 2-3 track days per year.

I'd get another S2000, too, if I found a good deal on one that I want. I just bought this one because it was priced right and gave me something to drive besides the V10 Ram in the meantime. It has a number of little things wrong with it, and I'd rather just sell it and spend a little more to buy a clean one than bother with it. Nothing major--just stuff like scratches on the front bumper lip, a few little nicks on the driver's door, couple of small tears in the top, aftermarket CD player sucks, missing a little interior panel behind both seats (can't see them unless you look behind the seats), gearshift knob is really scratched up (along with the standard S2000 center console scratching), etc.

I'm content to drive this S2000 for however long, but whenever I find a good deal on another car exactly like I want, I'll probably buy it and put this one up for sale.

[Edited on July 29, 2009 at 2:34 PM. Reason : ^ yeah, F20 engine in Miata is stupid. If you're going to swap, it's LSx, without a question.]

Like I said before, I do NOT have the money for this currently, so it isn't even a possibility. Once I do have the money, I'd most likely just buy a C6 son. It's still an awesome swap and they seem to put that amount of power down surprisingly well. My point was not that this is an even remotely definite plan, but instead that I DO NOT plan to swap an F20C into this car when I could do something like what I just posted for less money most likely.

Even a stock LS1/T56 from a Trans-Am or Camaro would put out so much more power than that F20C it's ridiculous. There's no point in spending ridiculous amounts of money on a swap like that when something far superior is readily available for the same amount of money or less son.

I drove Duke's newly purchased S2000. Needs a little here and there, but a solid car nonetheless.

It's the first AP1 I've driven...that extra 1,000rpms seems to go on forever, lol.

i've driven a couple of ap1s and 2s.

i'd probably still prefer the 2 overall. but the 1 has better handling imo. well more fun handling. the RPM's go on forever in both models, the difference was not noticeable to me.

but the game breaker would have to be the second cup holder. the amount of concern i had for the would be passenger holding on to their own beverage was paramount to say the least.

IMO the AP2 interior is a lot nicer. Not to mention 8 speakers >>> 2 speakers.

And if you're talking about the AP1 being more tail happy (and that equaling fun), well it has a slightly more aggressive suspension and narrower rear tires than the AP2.
