Regardless of UNC being the opponent, staying ahead of Clemson should be the priority. Duke, UNC, and Clemson are all within striking distance to knock us out of the top spot in a pool...FSU too since we have 3 games with them coming up.

Within striking distance of knocking us out of the top spot overall, yes, but there are four pools, so still a really good chance we end up as the top seed in one of those (two division winners + two others with best conference winning %)

^No difference in getting a 4 seed vs a 5 since they're in the same pool. If we get either and FSU is the other it won't matter in the slightest. Top-3 is the goal, so if we aren't #1 in the Atlantic then we need to finish above the Coastal's #2.

All 5 of the teams in question are ranked top-20 in the country, so nothing is a given, but we do have the best batting and slugging among them all and it's not even close. Pitching is pretty close between all of them...FSU is the only one outside of the ACC top 5 in ERA

Someone told me that those who had purchased tix to the canceled ECU game were not able to get refunds but could exchange those for tix to another game. I read earlier prices were very high on the secondary market. Is this true? Is that always the policy?

^Top-8 (guaranteed super regional host if we win the regional) is the bigger deal.

NC State, ECU, UNC, and Duke could all end up as regional hosts. One state hosting 25% of the regionals would be baller. Clemson certainly will as well and possibly Coastal Carolina just to add to the regional dominance.

It would force a lot of lower seed schools to travel longer distances since most of the schools in the Carolinas will already be counted for.

Uhh no, not at all. Tiebreak goes to higher seed in ACCT, so being the higher seed is the only way that it's possible to advance with a loss in pool play.

Yeah that's the policy. Same thing for the games earlier this year that they played double headers for. Tickets for the game that wasn't played could be turned into the ticket office for a future game.

NCAA made a change last fall so that there will now be 16 seeded teams, so starting this year, the regionals involving the 1 & 16 teams will be paired, 2 & 15 will be paired, and so on. Previously, supers had been (generally but not entirely) geographically paired; when we played in Kentucky's regional last year it was paired with Louisville, the 2015 TCU meltdown regional was paired with Texas A&M, etc.

Welp...looks like UNC did just fine without their closer. I didn't see the game but what I read makes it sound like Kinneman got screwed on a poorly called third strike with the bases loaded in the 8th.

If we were to lose just one game it was going to be this one, so the fact that we were that close gives me good feels for Brown and Piedmonte to start the other two.

^^^ no. I was there for the entirety of all 3 games and people were giving the umps and the Carolina players a lot of grief (mostly for bad calls and not going to class, respectively) but I didn't hear much profanity, other than the f bombs I dropped at the end of each game.

We are obviously rooting for FSU this weekend, but there is a fandom dilemma for the Duke/UNC series. We always want UNC to lose, but we want to finish 3rd or better to avoid being in a pool with another nationally ranked team, so the actual best case scenario is UNC sweeping Duke down to 4th place.

Ultimately the most important thing is State winning and keeping a top-8 spot for the chance to host a super regional...if we get that far.
