I foolishly thought OU and Murray could at least make Bama sweat with their offense. But nope.

We really need an 8 team playoff, because we need at least two more blowouts.

Yeah honestly the only thing an 8 team playoff gives you is the increased chance that some impact player gets hurt and that screws up a good team. The way college football works you're just gonna get more lopsided games when you add more. Hell look at what happens with the blowouts in some of these bowl games.

This was *the* year for an 8 team playoff, Georgia, Ohio State and UCF all had legitimate claims for the playoff.

Seeing Clemson and Alabama smoke the competition makes everything seem pointless. Reminiscent of the Warriors/Cavs matchups every year in the NBA before Lebron left Cleveland

Georgia and OSU didn't have legitimate claims. Georgia lost TWO games (blown out in one) and OSU got the shit kicked out of them by a team that finished under .500.

Ehhh. I disagree that this was he year for 8. 2 loss teams kinda eliminate themselves. UGa, while they gave Bama the best game of the year also shit bed vs a not great LSU team. OSU lost by 4 TDs to Purdue. I’m not saying OSU or UGa wouldn’t threaten Clemson or Bama. But they kinda shit the bed this year when they had their chances.

I guess you can always say that multiple teams had a claim to that 4th spot. But the 5-8 teams (and 3-8 this year) rarely if ever have a legit claim as best team and that’s why I don’t think there’s a need to expand. I think it eventually will expand, I don’t even oppose it. I just don’t know that it’s *necessary*

Yes, I meant they had a claim at the 4 spot. Ohio State and Georgia both had bad games but proved without a doubt at the end of the season when it mattered that they were among the elite.

Throwing out your big ten bias, there's no way you could've watched Notre Dame play today and think the Bulldogs, Buckeyes or UCF's couldn't put up more of a fight

No I think those teams could’ve put up more of a fight. Although I think Clemson would’ve put up 50 on Ohio State, OSU could’ve at least scored. I guess my point is simply, just because they could put up a fight doesn’t mean they should be in over ND given the resumes. More than anything Clemson and Bama are just in a league of their own. A playoff between just teams 3-8 would be more entertaining than prolonging the inevitable Bama - Clemson game.

Notre Dame needs to get their asses out of the stone age and join a damn conference already. Shame that a team that didn't even play on conference championship Saturday gets in. Beating Southern Cal and Navy doesn't mean shit in 2018.

They would be a 7 or 8 win team if they played in the SEC and Georgia would've whooped them too.

That's not how picking teams for the playoffs works. UGA and OSU had their chance to make the playoffs. UGA was essentially in a first round game in the SEC championship and they lost. OSU got their shit pushed in by a team with a losing record - they had no business in a playoff. UCF needs to schedule non-garbage teams and also would have ZERO chance with a backup QB.

Except when Ohio State got in 2 years ago. Or Alabama got in last year. Or any other time the playoff committee wants to subjectively decide who gets in.

I think the takeaway isn’t “expand the playoffs” or “ND didn’t deserve it”...imo it’s simply that there weren’t 4 playoff worthy teams this year. And imo this is arguably the 3rd year that’s happened (2016 and 2015). When a team gets blown out in the playoffs, it doesn’t necessarily mean that particular team was overrated or didn’t deserve it. It might just mean that there’s usually only 2-3 truly great teams and then there’s noticeable dropoff.

Ugh the coastal continues to be a dumpster fire. Even if you make the argument against realignment that divisions are cyclical, it's just disheartening to be stuck in the one side where you have to be perfect to even have a chance at winning it.

I don’t think you can even argue that it’s cyclical. The coastal has never had a national title contender. The Atlantic has had a national title contender several times.

The biggest opposition to an 8-team playoff are logistics and costs. Let's say the semi finals are in Dallas and Miami like they are now and the championship is also in a different city.
Are fans of team 1 and 2 going to buy tickets to 3 games if their team keeps winning? There are travel costs to be paid too.
What about travel and practice costs for teams? I don't doubt that about every P5 team has the budget, but Title IX supporters will start bitching.

Duke QB Daniel Jones is going pro. Probable first round pick, possible first QB off the board.

I bet there's gonna be some salty people here/on the internet when he gets taken way ahead of Finley.

Miami paid Temple $4 million to take away Manny Diaz, who had not coached a game yet. That means that Temple got nearly $4 million for free when you substract fees for their search firm and lawyers that went over the contract.

Ah yes, Georgia is no good because they didn't bring their CFP energy to a meaningless bowl game

I also enjoy them losing, but it's a silly perspective that you have

Holgorsen going to Houston. We play @WV next year. Could be winnable with a new QB, new coach, and losing other offensive firepower.
