Not unexpected. Its the 1st mid-week loss of the year. I dont know it to be true of this specific game, but I imagine many of the smaller schools would play up for this game and likely throw one of their better pitchers whereas we save ours for the weekend.

Considering we beat Campbell 21-4 early in the season, I think it's fair to wonder if fatigue has set in. Then again, we did lose to Canisius the very next day.

I think the big question at this point is do we make the top 8 where we would host the super regional. Assuming we beat JMU x2, then beat wake at least twice, we need to impress vs FSU and do well in the ACCT to do that.

With Clempson being that far up on us, and only having Pitt left, were not going to catch them. The worry is that FSU catches us, but since we play them, we have a big say in that. Clempson beating FSU 2/3 actually helped us at this point.

Am I correct in thinking that there are 4 pools/pods and the top 4 teams get a pool/pod? Is that top 2 in each division or top 4 overall?

Looking like a mercy rule kind of game (unless I misunderstood...I thought being up 10 runs after 7 innings in a non-conference game gets called? We're up 14-1)

Baseball America 2 days ago had us ranked #7 and Clemson #8, and FSU at #16, yet today came out with projected seeding with Clemson at #4, FSU at #10, and us at #13 (partnering us for a super regional in Clemson).

I don't understand this, unless they're already assuming FSU will win our series.

I previously noted that we cant catch Clempson; that was wrong.

Pack9: 15-9 36-12 (Wake x3 + FSU x3)

If we win out, we are 21-9
If Clempson wins 2/3 they are also 21-9, but we have the tie-breaker in head to head. Obviously if they lose 2/3 we wouldnt have to sweep. They have 4 OOC games left, but presumably we would tie/win overall record tie-breaker too.

Duke sweeps UNC
Clemson loses at least one against Pitt
UNC loses at least two to VT

Each of these is possible but not super likely, and we'd need miracles for all 4 to happen.

Florida State can no longer catch us, even if they win all 3 games next weekend. We can breath a little easier, but it also means we have more to play for than FSU does and that typically does not go well for State fans. We are in line for the 3 seed if we do no worse than Duke this weekend. 1/2 seed is still within reach, but it will take a strong showing from Pitt to make it happen.

Eh...whatever. We were up 5-3 in the sixth with a 2-2 count and Brown tossed one right down the fucking middle for a strike and the ump called it a ball and they went on to tie the game before we got out of the inning. We get out of that inning unscathed and we roll.

I just don't think we played that poorly. We were gifted a couple of runs, but for the most part we scored 5 against a good pitcher. And five walks means your team is disciplined at the plate. It's not like the pitcher threw 20 straight balls. Those were good at-bats.

From what I've read, RPI factors heavily into seeding:

#10 FSU
#11 Clemson
#14 Duke
#16 NC State

3 games against FSU and 2-4 games in the ACCT gives us plenty opportunity to up that number. Thankfully the top seed in each ACCT pool holds an automatic tie breaker, so the chances of making the ACC semis are pretty high.

My guess was that the rankings were based on how we've done so far, and the seed projections took predictions of future games into account. We were trending down at the time after losing 4 in a row so maybe they thought we'd drop one to Wake and not do well against FSU.

Here is a great breakdown of the tourney format. If we finish at 3 (ahead of duke), we will be paired with the 6 seed (Miami or FSU) and the 10 seed (UVA, WF or Pitt) in pool play.

UNC lost to UNCW last night. If they somehow drop the series to a shitty VaTech team, then they won't get a national seed (barring an ACC Tournament Championship).

^Wilmington is #83 RPI so that's going to hurt them...but then again it's the NCAA so they could lose every game left and someone is still going to vote them #1.

The Stetson/Miami game was cancelled, no help there.

Maybe we shouldn't have hoped so hard for our game with ECU to get rained out, would have helped our RPI and a win would have pushed us up another spot. Didn't do us much good to rest for the UNC series anyway.
