Both metrics you listed are meaningless. The only thing that matters for winning the nomination is convention delegates.

Also I don't think we'll ever know who really won SDEs, but the one delegate difference hopefully won't be a factor.

Popular vote should be the only thing that matters and caucuses suck and I will continue to yell this into the void until I die.

I agree, except for the fact that media and the Buttiegig campaign have been using SDEs as the metric for winning for several days now.

So in the name of consistency, Bernie won.

I can’t remember honestly and it’s stupid but didn’t the AP say that was what they were going to use well in advance of caucus day?

But for tww and reality he didn't.

He won politically and optically, but not by "better positioned for the nomination". And since Pete seems non viable elsewhere, the difference will likely be moot eventually.

And honestly most media I've seen hasnt called a winner

^^^Yea it's silly the way they decide but the candidates also knew the rules going in. Bernie won the Iowa caucus the same way Hilary won the presidential election.

But they have all been saying Buttiegig has the lead. Quit playing this stupid semantics game and get on board. Bernie won, by the metric the media is using. That is absolutely what matters, because that is what people will hear.

Actually most headlines I've seen don't mention he has a tight lead, and if/when the article says he does, it mentions caveats and irregularities.

Also I'd be more inclined to believe the Bernie campaign that they have the lead in SDEs if the showed a comprehensive analysis of the results whether then cherry picking the mistakes that help them. You can either say your tired of and better then the game, or you can play the game, you can't do both.

All outlets reporting the results are putting Pete on top. Chris Cuomo declared him the victor on primetime CNN last night. Pete has declared himself the victor.

This is stupid. Pete can do his own math if he wants to.

No one is better than the game. Warren lost because she tried and was terrible at it.

for entirely different reasons

the "game" sanders is playing is not cheating and lying, it's declaring victory based on the terms of other campaigns and the media. get your head out of your ass.

All campaigns lie. Clinton lost by 14000 votes to Paul Tsongas in New Hampshire in '92, and gave himself the title "the Comeback Kid", getting more in the media out of his New Hampshire performance than Tsongas did.

Has Sander’s plan always been to phase in M4A? Seems like I remember Warren getting dragged for similiar “phase-in” comments.

Bernie’s recent interview with Anderson Cooper:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/2002/06/se.01.html

Quote :
"SANDERS: Well, Medicare for all, the proposal that we have, Ron, is in a sense a compromise because we don't do it all at once. We do it over a four-year period. And the first year, what we do is we expand Medicare.

Medicare is a strong program right now. It's the most popular health insurance program out there. But it is not as good as it should be. So what we do in the first year, Ron, is we expand it to cover dental care, which last I heard oral health was a health care issue, hearing aids, eyeglasses, and home health care. And in year one of a four- year transition period, we lower the eligibility age from 65 down to 55. Year two, 45, year three, 35. Year four, everybody's in. So that's kind of a compromise. There are some people who say, hey, let's do it. You know, other countries have done it all instantaneously. We do a four-year period. "

Declaring victory based on incomplete and likely inaccurate data, just like Pete. I'm not sure what other cheating and lying Pete was doing, in terms of this caucus.

And most of the media hasn't declared a winner, despite Pete leading the official count. I don't watch CNN so I'll give you them, and all the 24 HR news channels if you want.

Also:

On the Indecision 2004 DVD from The Daily Show I have, Stephen Colbert in the prelude to the show's coverage of the Democratic National Convention is summarizing that year's Democratic primaries. It includes a clip of Joe Lieberman saying "thank you for putting us in a 3-way tie for 3rd place". Cuts back to Colbert who looks bewildered and does some figuring with his hands before saying "dead last".

Can I also point out we're arguing about winning at TWENTY-SEVEN PERCENT? Why is this an argument? I can add Biden's and Klobuchar's support together and get what Sanders or Buttigieg had.

It's always been a phase in via a single bill. Warren got dragged because she split it into two bills for no reason.

there are several reasons why it's bad to do that if you think about it for more than 3 seconds. and her method of paying for it (head tax) is also bad. doesn't matter now though because she lost and we can go back to the original, superior M4A bill that many people in the house and senate have already co-sponsored.

Back in December it was way less than “which bill is superior.”

Breaking M4A into two bills was treated as a MASSIVE BETRAYAL and Warren was a “SNAKE IN THE GRASS MANCHURIAN REPUBLICAN.”

Turns out it was all clown shoes rose twitter. I should have known.

It was. She already co-sponsored M4A, and then she backtracked to a version that is essentially the same as Pete's or Kamala's.

This is probably the right thing to do but man what a shitshow. Neither Pete or Bernie can really claim victory in terms of SDEs yet and it sounds like Team Bernie will be able to make their case as to why he won.

^^it does matter what the president thinks bc the president can drive policy. The president can their position to push for change. And it matters to be for it for a long time, not just when you become president and realize you can't get some/all your important bills through budget reconciliation. At this point I expect Mitch to filibuster 100% of Dem policy

Can someone explain how they got away with blacking Tulsi out in New Hampshire? She's polling ahead of Steyer in New Hampshire and close to Klobuchar (was actually ahead of Amy in the latest poll). Yet somehow she was left out of the CNN townhalls (ahead of 3 who made it) and ABC debate (ahead of 1 who made it). Even Patrick got a townhall and he's not even polling. Even Hillary is getting more airtime than Tulsi!

I just don't understand how democratic voters can sit idly by as the DNC runs a process that is absolutely rigged/unfair. There is absolutely no ground left to stand on to criticize the integrity of the GOP. Stop enabling corruption!

The plan to update the 5% of precincts with irregularities is probably off because it's apparently legal. The only way to update is a full recount. See thread:

So was there actual vote rigging or not? According to so many people on Twitter, many from Bernie's side, yes.

And they produce elaborate calculations and other intricate evidence to back up their claims.
