not to beat a dead horse, but I thought this quote was interesting:

Quote :
"One more Daft Punk-thought... Most people thought (and was hoping) for them to come back and breathe new life into dance music. Instead they did something else - which is fine - but their new music just won't be relevant for most dance floors today. And to be honest... "going back to the roots" will never be as innovative as a actually inventing new sounds."

I mean Dada Life said it, so I take it with a grain of salt, but it's pretty much what I thought

Funny, I thought they were one of the biggest names in POP MUSIC, and as artists, they can do whatever they want.

Is it possible that people in the dance scene are feeling betrayed?

Perhaps "dance music has" become so anonymous, Daft Punk would rather do something different right now?

I wouldn't consider Human After All or Homework pop, they are definitely dance, electro house and techno respectively. Dance music has always been disposable, and I think Daft Punk wanted to do something that was longer lasting. I expect the dance music community to get its fill as the remixes begin to pour in, and I bet there will be a lot of them. This is essentially the music that electronic musicians sample and rework, done by the best electronic musicians at sampling and reworking (Discovery).

"instant crush" on this new daft punk really fucking rules. the first half of the record is definitely better than the second half, with the obvious exception of "get lucky."

I really like this:

Quote :
"Chilly Gonzales on the potential impact of Random Access Memories: "It will lead many musicians out of the cul-de-sac they currently face. And those that do not understand will be cursed to make disposable music on laptops forever.""

I am one of the biggest (ha ha fuckers) Daft Punk fans in the world so I am biased, but holy shit the new album is good. "Giorgio by Moroder" is just amazing.

I've been listening to RAM nonstop for the last week and I'm still not even close to being tired of it. Album of the year for me, without a doubt

Instant Crush, Get Lucky, Lose Yourself to Dance, Giorgio by Moroder are all epic songs, there really is only a track or two on the album that I dont care for (Motherboard and Contact)

I hear lots of people saying they really like RAM, but no one's coming in to buy the stacks of Stargaard and Jean-Luc Ponty records that sound just like it. Come on!

^^ I wouldn't consider either of those just like it. Similar of course, and obviously influenced RAM (or similar artists did), but not the same.

Got my copy of the vinyls in the mail yesterday. The sticker on the front says "including Get Lucky and Lose Yourself To Dance", so I guess both singles are going to be pharrel songs.

Someone needs to codify the vest-wearing bands.
