it's a grower in the sense that after the initial "WHOA", you can listen for all the little things with each listen

that's what I was getting at, at least

"Kanye came over to play me what I assumed was going to be the finished album at three weeks before the last possible delivery date. We ended up listening to three hours of partially finished pieces. The raw material was very strong but hadn’t yet come into focus. Many of the vocals hadn’t been recorded yet, and many of those still didn’t have lyrics. From what he played me, it sounded like several months more work had to be done. "

Quote :
"We were working on a Sunday [the same day West attended a baby shower for girlfriend Kim Kardashian] and the album was to be turned in two days later. Kanye was planning to go to Milan that night. Five songs still needed vocals and two or three of them still needed lyrics. He said, “Don’t worry, I will score 40 points for you in the fourth quarter.” In the two hours before had to run out to catch the plane, he did exactly that: finished all lyrics and performed them with gusto. A remarkable feat. He had total confidence in his ability to get the job done when push came to shove."

haven't ever been able to really get into Kanye, even on the last one. Because of that, I'm not sure if I'll give the new one a try. I've given him more shots than I give most artists/bands to make their way into my rotation simply because he gets so much buzz. I always feel like I'm in some Emperor's New Clothes scenario

For me, I don't think that I can't stand anything in particular (though his lyrics would be the main thing that comes to mind), I just am never compelled to actually want to listen to it again after hearing his stuff.

I don't think he's terrible and I would never try and subjectively claim he is untalented or anything because I'll certainly admit it's obviously not my style/forte to begin with. It's just never something that I listen to and make a connection with or actively want to listen to again.

I obviously just don't "get" his music. I know other people would say the same for certain albums I absolutely love though, including at least one that came out recently so it's no biggie.

I like the idea of Kanye more than I like his music. We don't have enough pop stars that seem unhinged. Sure we have some weirdos but Kaybe seems like he has some impressive issues.

Regardless I enjoyed this album but I think the YouTube thing I listened to it with had the track listing fucked up.

Kanye has released 6 great albums in the last 9 years... who else can say that? Thee Oh Sees? I can't think of many others. Watch the Throne is the only one I don't care too much about, and it's still pretty good. I just think Jay Z sucks.

I'm a big fan of Kanye, but I can't get into his never stuff like I did his older stuff. Graduation is the last album I loved start to finish. I even like 808's. Dark Fantasy had its moments, and Watch the Throne wasn't bad. I've listened to this new album twice and there might be three songs tops that I really enjoy.

All of his older stuff is awesome to me, though. College Dropout, Late Registration, and even the Freshmen Adjustment mixtapes all have songs that I listen to on a regular basis.

I like the idea of Kanye West.

I got the new Boards of Canada album. It is nothing revolutionary. I'd say its mediocre.

all kanye's album did was remind me how much i can't stand auto-tune..

there were a handful of songs that i think would've been great but for that shit.

ftfy

His first three were pretty good to great. 808s was fucking garbage and Dark Twisted Fantasy had its moments, but I would still call it sub-par.

I think Kanye is a great rapper/artist...I just don't like what he's trying to do and I abhor his use of autotune.

Alright...I thought Dark Twisted Fantasy was "okay". There were some great tracks, some decent tracks, and some "sub par" tracks. Some of the great tracks were also aided by different artists.

I'd put all three of his first albums above Dark Twisted Fantasy.

I think a lot of it is just different tastes. You could take that statement and apply it to someone like Dillinger Escape Plan or Mars Volta or any band who does stuff a little differently but lots of people will dislike their albums too.

I can't ever really get into Kanye. Doesn't mean I don't like music with thought (I probably listen to some music where too much thought is put into it ) it just doesn't resonate with me personally for whatever reason.

i'm about 6 and a half minutes into yeezus and the beats are straight trash so far, production was the only thing kanye was good at, i'm gonna give it another 5 or 6 more minutes, but this album seems trash so far

Random Access Memories reaction: "WTF, THIS ISN'T HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER, IT SUCKS"

Yeezus reaction: "WTF, THIS ISN'T POWER, IT SUCKS"

i listen to about as much daft punk as i do kanye, in fact i HEAR more kanye than daft punk, so i dont get the analogy

but yeezus is fucking horrible, and i'm gonna have to throw a mental '____ credibility watch' to anybody who touts it as some fucking masterpiece

its straight shit, simple as that...OMG HE'S BEING EXPERIMENTAL AND SOUNDING LIKE ASSHOLE IN THE PROCESS

its kinda like my initial thoughts on the Cannibal Ox album, but at least El P has lyrical skills, and the beats on that album are a lot more listenable than "yeezus"

but i've been diggin in the crates for decades, so i dont rely on some kardashian to try and find a good hiphop album, which this is lightyears from

the Daft Punk album has maybe 4 good tracks on it. best marketing job ever tho.

Yeezus goes with

And I agree that Random Access Memories is mediocre, but there are some really good tracks. Still a lot of the reaction is, "This isn't what I was expecting, so it sucks."

i'd classify it as 'experimental hiphop', ie he's rapping like he would on any of his other hiphop albums, but he's trying WAAAAAAY too hard to make crazy experimental beats, that for some reason he thought sounded good

but musically, it sounds like shit...i say shit, because i cant think of a worse word to describe how it sounds to my ears

[Edited on June 28, 2013 at 3:05 AM. Reason : also because the beats are, in fact, trash]
