One New Mexico poll (Johnson was governor there for 8 years) released this past weekend:

Clinton 34
Trump 31
Johnson 24

Falsely equovicated the US's accidental bombing of civilians in Syria to the systematic slaughter of innocents Assad is carrying out.

Weld (Johnson's VP pick) announced that he's shifted his focus to making sure Donald isn't elected.

Knowing the leader of North Korea really isn't a trivia question, it's common knowledge for anybody who even cursorily follows world events

They ask trump this kind of shit all the time. Trump was asked a trivia question on Yucca Mountain yesterday in Nevada and he punted the shit out of it, promising to eventually have an opinion. And frankly, that's a hell of a lot tougher "trivia question" than asking someone who thinks he should be the next president who the fucking leader of North Korea, who is actively searching to develop a nuclear strike capable of hitting the US, is.

Maybe they don't ask Clinton who the NK leader is. But that's probably because unlike Johnson and Trump, she's....smart. OK, really it's because she was the fucking Secretary of State for 4 years and to ask her would make the reporter look stupid, not the candidate.

If there was any set of circumstances that could have given the libertarian party some credibility and traction, it was this election, and they blew it epically. Between Johnson apparently not keeping up with current events and their convention being a disaster, I don't think there's any hope.

Hopefully the few sane libertarians swoop in to the GOP after trump takes the evangelicals out of the party.

So why would you ask that? There is no scenario where being able to answer it would come into play. The president is always going to have advisors, translators and.....THE FUCKING INTERNET. They should be asking if kim does __________ what would you do? type questions that require higher order thinking skills. I don't expect an older person to spend a lot of their cognitive energy on keeping an address book in their head.

If you forget a name, you're going to lose two seconds, but if you forget how we get involved in quagmires, you're going to lose multiple decades and hundreds of thousands of people.

THIS. I'm a registered Libertarian, and have been since before Michael Badnarick ran in 2004. BUT, You're exactly right. Being a 3rd party candidate, means you don't get the spotlight a bunch, so when you do... you have to make a good showing. And Johnson blew it.

In his defense... Alepo came out of the blue, and I don't think the Kim question is really pertinent (I disagree that he's trying to reach the US with a nuclear weapon, but that's beside the point) but either way, it shows a HUGE breakdown in Johnson's ability to construct a foreign policy. GSP

Just gotta ensure he gets 5% so we are recognized as a national party.

Who cares if he can't name foreign leaders. You realize what the libertarian partyou represents right?

Clinton can name themeans because they are all key contributors to our slush fund Clinton foundation for God's sake

I'm aware that classic libertarians (and GJ) believe in a large reduction in US military presense around the globe. That doesn't mean that a robust foreign policy, and national security strategy are irrelevant to a Libertarian candidate for POTUS.

Probably, but Moron's point stands. This was the opportunity for the Libertarian party to gain traction (without looking crazy) and they blew it, and not for a classic Libertarian 'Ron Paul' reason like "Abolish the IRS and Social Security" that turns off the left.

Weld isn't a libertarian. Gary Johnson seems to have some sort of mental illness. Too much dank weed, I guess.

The Libertarian party has shown itself to be completely incompetent and unable to put forth a viable, normal candidate. I think the issue is that anyone remotely pragmatic will just run as a Republican, knowing that the LP is a big circle jerk. Anyone that is truly capable is going to be drawn to real work (a.k.a. the private sector), not fucking around in DC.

I think we're doomed to 4 years of Hillary.

Hopefully we can get a pro-liberty republican like Amash, Paul, or Flake to make a real run at the presidency in 2020. Frankly the LP botched this election, Johnson was a huge letdown in a year that a more competent and well spoken candidate could have conceivably won a state and/or garnered double digit support int he popular vote.

The GOP should have run Paul. Wikileaks has shown that he and a couple others were the ones that the DNC/HRC campaign (let's be real, they're the same exact organization) thought were a threat. They were praying for a Trump nomination. The fact that it's still close shows how awful of a candidate Hillary really is.

Yep when Hillary wins and all the Trump supporters are complaining that another democrat won all you can say is well.. you guys picked the only candidate worse than Hillary (Cruz would be debatable and he finished 2nd). How people couldn't have gotten behind Kasich or Rubio, who would be destroying Clinton right now, still baffles me.

The base is angry. No normal candidate that would swing huge amounts of independents can get through the republican primary process.

Kasich, Ryan would all do really well in the general. I might vote for them.

Cruz? Please. What a joke.
