he tried the NBA waters and its not working out so well like it happens with a lot of great college coaches...hopefully he'll come back to coach in college where he belongs and I would love it to be NC State

Montgomery would be absolutely great. No one on that list got me super-excited except for him.


1) He's not leaving for the pro's, obviously
2) He's a proven winner at freaking STANFORD...which means he can handle ACC academics
3) He's clean, obviously (see: Stanford)
4) He's a well known name... so recruiting.....
5) Runs a wide-open offense... great defense
6) NBA knowledge / recruiting


I think he'd be an amazing hire. If this is all true and we really are talking to him... only Calipari, Pearl, or Wright would change my mind.

Sounds like the only negative for him would be age. I dont give a fuck though cause he doesnt look 57 and I think he'd be damn good. Stanford was a powerhouse while he was there for a few years, and had some heartbreaking losses in the NCAA from what I remember.....better than getting blown out in the second round.

I'm fairly confident we're coming away with Montgomery if we can't get Barnes.

It just makes too much sense.


NC State is easily the best job available, and he is probably the most attractive option.

Besides, he's already made a shit load of money in Golden State so he wouldnt be as pricey as Barnes I wouldnt think.

It's not like Montgomery needs to be lured away from anything...

Gillespie has been poised to leave.... if we want him, he'll take it. I'll guarantee it.


I'm not sure about Turgeon. Marshall is more of a wide-open offense that draws pure athletes. From what I understand, Turgeon is more precision. Not sure that's what State needs.

Marshall would be a huge gamble, but he's done a fantastic job at Winthrop in a short timespan. It'll be interesting to see if he gets any real consideration without the bigtime experience
