Some laws specifically say life begins at fertilization rather than implantation. Under these circumstances, an ectopic pregnancy would be forced to go along until the the health of the mother was absolutely at stake.

Same thing with partial miscarriages where a d&c is recommended to minimize risk (both physically and mentally). This would no longer be allowed until absolutely necessary.

These laws will increase risk and women will suffer

It makes me angry to see states with trigger laws not doing anything to help the women who would otherwise abort.

I'm pro choice up to what I consider to be a pretty reasonable point (probably somewhere in trimester 2, later if necessary to save the mothers life or the child is severely deformed or something. Rape and incest victims should clearly be allowed them too, but I would hope they're taking pregnancy tests a lot after that kind of thing happens).

The thing I find crazy is that almost every one of the pro choice people I know were pushing for mask and vaccine mandates to keep your job or go outside etc. And just cause people assume shit based on your stance a lot of the time, I just wanna say I still wear a mask inside in some situations and I've had 2 vaccines and 1 booster. Considering a 2nd before fall. So I wasn't affected by the airplane mandates and all that.

Am I crazy for being consistent in mythinking that if government insists on having a role in Healthcare, it should be tiny.

I feel like conservatives would be cool with pregnant ladies using HOV and/or claiming a dependent on taxes.

Bigger thing imo would be something like a fertility clinic. Do they (or the parents) claim 100s (or 10s) of dependents for the fertilized eggs.

If her argument holds water, then tax breaks, health care, and child support all should start at conception.

Just proudly hating women and children and going on the record with a national publications to make sure every one knows. Wild.

It was not that long ago when rape, incest, or health of the mother were exceptions in the vast majority of the go-nowhere abortion legislation that was introduced and why wouldn’t you include them? It kneecaps the entire medical need counterargument. Now? It’s like a race to create the most broad reaching punitive legal environment possible. Then you wave your psycho flag and the Base ……… rewards you for it. 10 year olds birthing rape children is the society conservatives want.

Not all conservatives.

I tried to find out if Bopp himself had any children. My google-fu wasn't strong enough. I guess he's assuming here that the best course of action would be for her parents to raise the child? Because obviously a 10 year old can't. My 9 year old can't even clean her room. I couldn't even imagine a 10 year old's frame being able to handle the birth of a fucking child.

This poor girl shouldn't even be in the spotlight.

“If a 10 year old became pregnant as a result of rape and it was threatening her life then that’s not an abortion”.

If this medical procedure is one I agree with then it isn’t an abortion. If I don’t agree with it then it is an abortion.

it’s very bad that media of any sort is knocking on the door of an alleged rape victim

it’s also quite telling that after a quick google news search, nearly all of the articles written about it are from right wing news sources

^^By "odd stuff" are you claiming that this impacts the abortion case in anyway, or are you just pointing out that some mothers are nutjobs?

Does anyone here know the relationship (if any) between the mother and the rapist? Were they romantically involved in any way, or part of the same family, or some kind of connection like that?

Here's a 12 second clip of that visit. The video is in Spanish, which I don't speak. There's a translation in the article but I don't know if it's complete.

^^Honestly, I was just asking the question, but I know very well from experience (no accusation against you intended, sincerely) that many conservatives like to cast doubts by drawing attention to bullshit tangentials just like that.

On another board I used to post on there was a poster absolutely convinced that the whole story was faked since the 10 year old wasn't identified (he recanted that once an arrest was made). But like I said, I don't take it for granted that that's the intention, which is why I asked. In fact, I think what you brought up is very disturbing, too; I just don't think it should distract from the abortion legality issue.

the bad faith reporting is, of course, because they initially took the line that this never happened in the first place.

...but i guarantee if i asked any of the hardcore conservatives i know they would say although terrible the baby had nothing to do with the crime.

Yeah of course that’s what they’ll say. Because the hardcore pro life people truly do believe that abortion is murder. That’s not just an outlandish thing they say to grab your attention. They mean it. I’m not picking on you. But people keep acting surprised when the hardcore pro life people aren’t satisfied with partial abortion bans or limited bans. They say abortion is murder. They mean that literally. They say they want a full abortion ban with no exceptions. That’s what they want and they don’t want to settle for less.

The best thing the left can do right now is pit mainline fiscal conservatives against the Christian far-right and show their values are not aligned.

Right now a man cannot add a child onto his health insurance plan until after the birth. The mother and the not-yet-born have to be covered solely by the mother. But if that child has a life at conception, then the man who supplied the genetic material should be able to cover all doctor visits as it pertains to the pregnancy on his coverage. Someone in congress needs to make that case - and see how fast the insurance companies start defining born children and the unborn as separate, unequal categories.

If anything, the behavior of the mother is more of an advocate for abortion - it appears there is not a safe environment for that baby if it gets born. It would need to be a ward of the state.

Kansas Republicans chose the primary to put it on the ballot because they assumed the turnout would be majority Republican

instead they got their asses handed to them by a general election-like turnout

pretty clear blueprint of what Dem messaging should be going into the mid-terms

"A Florida court of appeal this week upheld a decision stating a 16-year-old teen could not get an abortion because she lacked the maturity to make such a decision, even after the parentless teen said she was not ready to have a child and is still in school.

An opinion released Monday by the Florida 1st District Court of Appeal upheld an earlier decision by a state court judge. That judge was not convinced the teen had demonstrated the maturity to choose to get an abortion. The teen, identified only as Jane Doe 22-B, has no parents but is in the care of Florida’s child welfare agency and has a guardian. She is about 10 weeks pregnant and currently resides with a relative.

“The minor states that she is sufficiently mature to make the decision, saying she ‘is not ready to have a baby,’ she doesn’t have a job, she is ‘still in school,’” the Monday order states. “And the father is unable to assist her.”"

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/08/16/parentless-teen-cant-have-an-abortion-under-state-parental-consent-law-00052211

Apparently the opposite of too immature for an abortion is mature enough to care for a child over the next eighteen years.

"A man who worked as a political director for Texas Right to Life, the premier anti-abortion group in the state, has been arrested for the online solicitation of a minor.

Lucas “Luke” Bowen, 33, was charged with the second-degree felony on August 3. A minor, under that statute, refers to anyone who’s younger than 17 or who the arrested person believes to be younger than 17.

Texas Right to Life is one of the most powerful anti-abortion groups in a state known for setting the anti-abortion agenda for the rest of the nation. As part of his work for the organization, Bowen had appeared on stage represening Texas Right to Life at a 2020 Texas Youth Summit panel, spoke to Politico in 2018, and served as its campaign treasurer, according to a Texas campaign finance report filed last month...
