"In addition to holding roughly 30 percent of minor detainees for longer than 72 hours, several Rio Grande Valley facilities struggled to meet other TEDS standards for UACs and families. For example, children at three of the five Border Patrol facilities we visited had no access to showers, despite the TEDS standards requiring that 'reasonable efforts' be made to provide showers to children approaching 48 hours in detention."

Quote :
"... although TEDS standards require CBP to make a reasonable effort to provide a shower for adults after 72 hours, most single adults had not had a shower in CBP custody despite several being held for as long as a month. At some facilities, Border Patrol was giving detainees wet-wipes to maintain personal hygiene. Most single adult detainees were wearing the clothes they arrived in days, weeks, and even up to a month prior."

Has nothing to do with being mean to Trump. I'm as critical of Trump as anybody out there, it's about losing focus on real liberal ideals. The focus is 100% oppose Trump. The democratic party has lost focus on the issues I care about.

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that you love college football, but despise the idea of paying the athletes, and want them all to stand for the anthem?

We're probably going to see Abu Ghraib style pictures of our concentration camps soon and you're sitting here slagging off about the unnamd issues you care about as if anybody should give a damn.

^I think that college athletes should absolutely be able to get paid, although I don't think they all should. My opinion is the market should dictate it. That means it would be mostly football players and some basketball players that would be getting paid, although college athletes in any sport would/should be able to get paid. I don't think they should receive a salary just for playing a college sport, but I do think they should be able to demand money based on their value to the program and revenue generation. Some athletes are worth far more than a "free education", access to world class training, and a platform to display their skills.
As far as the Anthem issue, I'm opposed to making anybody stand for the anthem. No league should be able to censor it's players assuming they are protesting peacefully. That being said, they are an employee of the organization, and if the employer determines the don't have enough value to warrant the distraction they create they should be able to make personnel changes as they see fit assuming the organization meets their contractual obligation. Just the same way that I can be fired as an at will employee for being too much of a distraction for my organization relative to the productivity I provide, I don't think athletes should have any special treatment beyond the rest of us.
As far as the specific issues that alienated me from the party (not liberal values): A lot of it was the Russia probe. The amount of energy and obsession of this was indicative of the party's ultimate goal which is defeat Trump any way possible.

^The issues I care about are mostly for selfish reasons. Things that affect me directly. Major tax reform, major healthcare reform, stay the fuck out of the middle east and any other country we meddle in and decrease military spending, stop destroying the planet, and go to mars.

Are you referring to the Russia probe run by Department of Justice employee and Republican Robert Mueller?

You must really hate Mitch McConnell then.

^If you truly believe the Democratic party is serving you well on those issues, I'm happy for you. I just don't feel that they are serving me on those issues. So far they haven't succeeded on any of those fronts as far as I'm concerned. Neither has the Republican party.

Democrats are the only ones even trying to fix Healthcare. Staying out wars and reducing military spending doesn't have much support in either party, but def more in the Dem party. Look at the last House spending bill and the loudest voices opposing war in iran.

"Tax reform" means 100 diff things to 100 diff people so you'll have to be more specific there.

This is the wrong thread for this but basically you seem like you like Elizabeth Warren in theory. All the candidates are a bit too far right in war, for me, but I think Warren is farther left then Sanders, Biden or Harris.

Warren also probably more fits your "don't talk too much about Trump rule

I'm waiting for there to be an uprising due to the poor conditions and treatment. That will inevitably lead to a CBP agent getting injured/killed and an excuse to start killing migrants en masse.

What's stopping someone from taking a photo of Foster next to a dude and making some allegation of impropriety? Oh that's right, nobody would ever think he could be gay. That would be a bridge too far.

So we can say with clarity now that the GOP is a racist party and should be treated as such, no? Not a single voice has spoken out nine hours later. Not one.

Justin Amash did but he was obviously excommunicated.

Sad to see this happen tbh. No amount of tax cuts or deregulation can excuse away this garbage.

I was chatting with a trump supporting friend on Facebook and i said trump is a racist that wants fewer non-white immigrants coming here.

Normally this person would push back on this with “he doesn’t have a problem with legal immigrants it’s the ILLEGALS that are the problem”. Today there was no such pushback. I am cautiously optimistic the needle could move on this.

Maybe go from 40% approval to 36% or something

Fox news propaganda machine

Took them 24 hours to figure out (get redirections from the leader) how to deal with it. The only mention they had of it prior to this second tweet was a Clinton redirect article.

Zero republicans have condemned the tweets at this point.

Trump has tripled down on them saying democrats are anti Semitic.

Geraldo has called the tweets racist but says trump can do better.

Lindsay graham has implied the women trump attack deserved it because “they’re communists”.

Our government is corroding right before our eyes.

Is it? I mean it’s pretty consistent with a multi-generational slide of the Republican Party that predated Reagan.

And it’s going to get far worse as Trump remains behind in 2020 polling.

I don't think it's that amazing. The United States of America has always been a very racist country. We have had openly racist mayor's, governors, representatives, senators, and presidents. Great strides have been made in combatting racism, but that shit is still there right beneath the surface. If voters were willing to put someone into the Oval office that was a known racist, I don't see how anyone can be amazed that he would then act openly racist.

I'm so confused, we are the greatest country in the world, or are we working to make our country great again? Or have we gone from being not great, to now great from 2016-2019?

And at this point I'm assuming the rest of the world views us sorta like the O'Doyle family from Billy Madison right?

Romney taking another shot at a response. History will not reflect kindly on people who won’t say this is racist:

Quote :
"The president’s comments were destructive, demeaning, and disunifying. The President of the United States has a unique and noble calling to unite the American people – of all different races, colors, and national origins. In that respect, the president failed badly."

House Republicans Are Pressuring Amazon to Sell Books on Gay Conversion Therapy
Quote :
"The Republican Study Committee, a conservative caucus that includes more than 70% of all GOP House members, issued a handout during a private meeting in the Capitol Wednesday asking members to “contact Amazon with concerns” about what they referred to as “Amazon censorship.”

...
...
“In recent days, Amazon has banned the sale of several books addressing unwanted same-sex attraction,” according to the handout, obtained by VICE News. “Catholic psychologist, author and therapist Dr. Joseph Nicolosi (deceased) penned multiple books to assist men struggling with unwanted homosexual attractions, feelings and lifestyles.

“These books were available on Amazon until an LGBT activist repeatedly petitioned Amazon to remove the ‘homophobic books’ from the company’s website. Amazon removed Dr. Nicolosi’s books and those of several other authors on similar topics,” the document continues. “It is not clear that any of the banned books have violated an Amazon policy, but rather that the company is choosing to censor speech.”"
