i understand i dont care about the little part that would die inside you

are you for not adding anyone if they lose a league member or two, or would you want to add 2 more to keep it at 12, and if the latter what 2 southern schools do you suggest, because ive never met a fan of UCF or USF (aside from the meineke bowl)

u mad apparently?

Let the ACC rot and dissolve. I could literally give a fuck less what happens to the other institutions. We are a southern university in a southern state. Our opponents should reflect that same image IN MY OPINION

What's not to understand?

I don't want any more northern teams. BC was quite possibly the worst decision ever. They don't fit with the traditionally southern feel and footprint of the ACC. Let's avoid adding more BC's into the equation if there is any other way to do it.

1. How many Mississippi State or Vanderbilt fans do you see at the grocery store?

2. The ACC should contract, not expand, but Syracuse, UConn, Pitt would be solid additions.

3. People saying the ACC is in serious trouble and ripe for the picking: what the fuck are you on about? One school in 50+ years has left the ACC and that was decades ago. The Big East has seen more turnover in the past ten years than the rest of the conferences combined, and the Big 12 is really about to collapse. Just because ESPN says it's going to happen, doesn't mean it's going to happen.

i would pee my panties in excitement if we somehow managed this:

Quote :
"Southern Division:

Miami
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Clemson
North Carolina
NC State
Duke
Wake Forest

Northern Division

Virginia
Virginia Tech
Maryland
Pittsburgh Army
Boston College
Connecticut
Syracuse
Wildcard School Naval Academy"

..adding Army and Navy just feels right

...and while i like Pitt, the part of my brain that deals with geography would rather have a school from a state on the Atlantic Coast.

Pennsylvania has the Delaware River estuary, but is not really on the Atlantic Coast

Pittsburgh has a very rich football history and currently brings an excellent basketball program and a good football program. Adding Army and Navy seems weird to me. The Wild Card school if that expansion happened would be Rutgers.

I assume that West Virginia is a joke academically, but they would be a good fit athletically. Strong football and basketball programs, a murderous rivalry with Pitt and potential rivalries with Maryland and VT.

yeah, Pitt would be a great add if the state was on the Atlantic coast.

doesn't WVU have a med school, law school, and an engineering program? something like that jsut doesn't scream "academic joke" to me.

also, WV is not on the Atlantic Coast, so its a moot point.

..ok to drop Army, but lets atleast get Navy. they're respectable enough in Football, and can get there in BBall -- how will they get good enough in bball you ask? because they're the goddammn US Navy that's how

we can add Rutgers in place of Army. i guess we need more assholes than just Maryland.

I'd rather pick up the best teams possible than add shitty schools just because they're in the south or on the Atlantic coast.

BC in the ACC isn't shitty because they're from the north, it's because their fanbase/teams suck.

Conference name has zero bearing on the member institutions. See: Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Pac 12, WAC

NC A&T has an engineering school, Central has a law school, ECU has a medical school. I'll still assume that WVU is full of dudes carrying around XXX jugs

not being tongue in cheek - its just how my simple little brain operates.

if we want to bastardize the "Atlantic Coast" from the ACC, i'm cool with a name change for the conference.

and yeah i know the Pac 10 is not really the "Pacific" league, and the Big 10 sucks at math, and that the Dallas Cowboys aren't in the NFC "East" geographically, and the Colts aren't in the AFC "South".

i just like annotating things accurately instead of applying bullshit geographic nomenclature where it doesn't apply... that's just my dumb brain though. just one person's opinion on this here internet.

+1

I have no desire to travel to a dirty, cold, city with ugly students. I say we try to steal Old Miss and add them to our division. We all need an excuse to visit the grove.

Also, there is absolutely no way Army or Navy will join a conference. They make so much money already, that joining a conference would only hurt their bottom line.

I get that tailgating at a school like Alabama is infinitely more fun than tailgating at UConn, but a weekend in November in NYC beats the fuck out of a weekend in a sweaty shithole like Tuscaloosa or Starkville.

[Edited on August 26, 2011 at 3:28 PM. Reason : So Storrs is further from NYC than I thought. But still.]

People are just overly excited about the possibility of the SEC going to 14 teams and adding NC State as #14. You are correct though about the ACC. From what I have read on Packpride which is all just message board talk mainly...

The SEC schools would block GT, FSU, Clemson, and Miami from joining the SEC because they want to get into a new state.

Maryland would be more interested in the Big 10, but they aren't expanding anytime soon.

BC, Duke, Wake, and UNC aren't going anywhere.

No one seems to be talking about Virginia.

NC State and Virginia Tech are located in states where there is no SEC school and they could be targets for the SEC in the future.

That mean, if the SEC expands to 14 and steals an ACC school then the ACC will look like this...

BC
Maryland
Virginia
Wake
Duke
UNC
Clemson
GT
FSU
Miami
NCSU or VT leave which causes the league to stay at 11, or take a school from the Big East maybe and go back to 12.

Just because the ACC doesn't have the biggest football tv contract doesn't mean the league will fold anytime soon.

I know. The rumor I did hear though is that Tennessee is trying to get the SEC to add UNC Asheville, App State, and Western Carolina since some of those schools want to go I-A in football anyway.

God no. It's like UNC or UVA with even less of a reason to feel uppity and arrogant. Oxford is ok for the music scene and that's it.

Plus you'd have to stay in Memphis and you'll probably get shot, and I say this having lived there.

The addition of BC wasn't terrible because they're a bunch of carpet baggin yankees up north. It stems from the fact that they add next to nothing in terms of competition and fan interest. It was a last second substitution that has flopped. A northern school could easily improve the competition and atmosphere of the ACC (UCONN, CUSE, hell even Rutgers), BC just isn't the team to do it.

i see two groups emerging here - those who want to be "SEC Part 2", and those who want to be "Big East Part 2". i'm cool either way -- this internet poster's one track mind is just hung up on the whole "Atlantic Coast" thing -- damn you geography classes!!

a couple of things seem self evident:
- the SEC is not letting any schools secede (ironic isn't it).
- southern universities have tailgating that is of a different and better universe than northern ones.
- there's no denying the SEC's dominance of college football during our generation.
- while i think the ACC is the premier basketball conference, the Big Least has a lot of arguments for why its the best bball league, and we won't be able to shake that albatross until another powerhouse outside of Durham and Chapel Hill emerges.

while it may be fun to re-align our conference to say to the world, "hey look, we're southern too!", i think its a better value proposition to reassert our basketball dominance once and for all, while staying very much relevant in football. and since it doesn't seem like we will be able to poach any SEC schools, maybe we can take a couple of the good Big East ones.

...and this is coming from someone who cares about football way, way, way more than basketball. i mean, five guys chasing and orange ball up and down some hardwood is fun and all, but to me it is nothing compared to the battlefield/chess match that occurs when 11 guys in full body armor line up in formation on the grass/turf. ... i'm going to stop myself there - i almost started making ridiculous and probaly unreasltic predictions on why Marine Officer Tom O'Brien is going to make us thee dominant football program in our league.
