About six months ago, I came down with a severe case of Adult Onset Islam that was about a year in the making. My wife is a lapsed Christian and largely ignores religious/spiritual matters. I never asked her to convert (although of course I did explain to her how happy it would make me) and our day to day life has changed very little as a result of my conversion.

Shortly after conversion, I changed my name to one more befitting a Muslim. I sometimes lose patience with her when she refuses to call me by my Muslim name. I have taken up wearing traditional Islamic garb around the house (at work I wear a uniform) and I have grown my beard out long, according the recommendation of the Prophet. I did ask my wife repeatedly to wear the Hijab (she refused :/) and now she's talking about leaving me because she just doesn't "get" why I'd ever convert to Islam. Our once lively sex life has been reduced to almost nothing. She hates my beard and says she won't have sex with me unless I shave it off.

She's also alarmed at how I've been "pushing" the religion on our two children, a girl age 6 and a boy age 8. I wouldn't say I'm "pushing" per se, but I have spoken to them about it, and my 8 year old son has expressed a desire to pursue Islam like his father. I am considering giving him a Muslim name as well.

She keeps suggesting that it's "unpatriotic" to convert to the religion of our "enemies." I tried to explain to her that Islam is a large, well established religion where personal virtue and devotion to Allah are all that matters, and that the chaotic actions of a few heretic terrorists do not represent the greater religion of Islam.

My parents, who are agnostic at best, have taken her side, despite the fact that they really don't like her too much.

I guess what I'm saying is, am I wrong, or is she? Islam is the Light of my life, and it if be Allah's will to separate us, how can I fight it? Regardless, I will adhere to His deen and remain faithful to His word. I just really wish I could work out things with my wife as well.

IMO people in the Soap box need to start plagiarizing MORE, most of the discussion currently is just people repeating what some talking head said or posted somewhere else. Who cares if you give them credit? They probably regurgitated the idea from some other political douchebag anyways. Plagiarizing would atleast make it seem like people were able to form their own opinions and present new ideas, with the added benefit of probably being more coherent and having fewer grammar mistakes.

There really isn't that big of a difference between watching "analysis" on CNN then running over to the SB and posting the same idea and just copying and pasting the last post from your favorite blog. Your favorite blog and the CNN anchor both probably just copied it from someone else anyways. They both take about the same amount of uncreative thought, which is exactly how I would describe most soapbox discussions.

Ideas are recycled, in some conversations (politics) more than others. I'm not saying that plagiarism isn't bad, only that I think it shouldn't come as a suprise and its seriousness is being blown out of proportion.
