BUT IT SHOWS HOW GOOD A PERSON ROY WILLIAMS IS! SHOWS HOW HE HAS A LITTLE MORE IN THE HEART TANK THAN EVERYONE ELSE. PROVES THAT UNC FAGS ARE ALL BETTER THAN US BY EXTENSION!

DON'T YOU GET IT MAN?! THEY ARE LEAPS AND BOUNDS BETTER THAN US IN EVERY WAY. UNC EVEN RISKS THEIR OWN REPUTATION SEVERAL TIMES YEARLY TO GO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF NOBODY TEAMS WHO ARE CLOSE TO THEIR PLAYERS HOMETOWNS. FUCKING CHRIST HOW DO YOU NOT SEE THE LIGHT? IT'S DANGEROUS! THEY COULD LOSE... WHAT WOULD WE DO THEN?! WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THEY LOST. ALL HAIL ROY WILLIAMS (DRINKS KOOLAID AND DIES)

@ Davidson?

I can't find the actual schedule but it says we played an away game against them in 08-09.

that was in Charlotte (which is closer to Davidson than Raleigh) but technically it was neutral site

but theres no fucking way we have 2 road games against mid majors in 5 years, thats just bullshit

although its meaningless too...road games at Syracuse and Wisconsin are tougher than playing at a fucking mid major school

^I was at the game...it was in Time Warner Arena in downtown Charlotte...however it was pretty much all Davidson students down low with State fans in the upper deck...I think it was technically a home game for Davidson, but I was just pointing out that it wasn't actually in their home building

Carolina has played six true road games at mid-majors (schools not in Big East, Big Ten, Pac-10, Big 12, SEC). Duke has played one (later this season at UNC-G). N.C. State has played two (at UNC-G, at New Orleans). It's pretty clear who has the most dangerous schedule.""

Don't some of those games they play vs mid-majors have to do with honoring seniors on the team by playing a game near their hometown?

For example, I remember they played at Cleveland State a few years back because Jawad was from there.

I love how Jaybee went from an actual objective Sports Talk poster who occasionally had to put a State fan in check when he claimed a media conspiracy

To someone who is so full of his supposed objectivity that he now automatically thinks ANY complaint anyone on TWW has about some type of media bias is total bullshit without a thread of truth

99% of the time the media conspiracy is just a bunch of shit... I seriously doubt reporters have these sneaky motives to put down other teams. Only motive is to try to write a good article. Even if they did intentionally write bad about a team they would write bad about the "favored" team because that would cause more controversy and drum up interest. Its like no one would write an article about the Yankees being good to "suck their dick" and screw Baltimore.

all you have to do is look at Tim Hall's body of work. He wrote about how everyone shouldn't worry about Harrison Barnes going 0-fer that one game, that he still raises the dead and invented sliced bread. What kind of "journalist" gets on a freshman's nuts like a sorority girl like that?

Hmmmm.

Do you also think that the majority of the mainstream media not liberal in nature?

Or that foxnews is not conservative?

To say that they are is un-objective?

I think the majority of the PEOPLE that make up the media are probably more left leaning in their personal beliefs. But that doesnt mean that I think newspapers in general get together and plan out some complex liberal agenda to throw in their paper and it doesnt mean that people are bad writers or biased writers.

For example, in sports, a writer from Tennessee is likely to be a Tennessee fan, but that doesnt mean that his paper is a "Tennessee" paper in terms of being biased, and it doesnt mean he doesnt have the ability to write about Tennessee in a bad way or about some team that is totally unrelated.

You are all confusing fans with journalists.

Let's take a look at some excerpts...

Quote :
"...Or was it a home game? For the Tar Heels' best player it was, and it happened thanks to Roy Williams' scheduling."

It wasn't "due to" or "because of," it was "thanks to.:

Quote :
"I respect Roy for scheduling games like Evansville and for falling in line with a Carolina tradition that started long ago."

I respect? We don't give a shit about reporters feelings, but he wanted you to know how he feels about Roy.

Quote :
"And what I really like about it, it spits in the face of that tired old scheduling philosophy I mentioned above of the big guy never going on the road to the little guy because there's nothing to gain. "

Here we get imagery of Roy Williams spitting in the face of... well, everyone.

Quote :
"It's annoying when teams never step out of their comfort zone. Roy Williams and Carolina go out of their way to do the opposite. "

Not only is this journalist annoyed by, apparently, ever other team as a result, but Roy Williams GOES OUT OF HIS WAY to do this stand up thing.

Quote :
"I know Duke plays true non-conference road games. But not as many as North Carolina."

Here we have some Duke comparing happening in favor of UNC

Quote :
"Take a look at Duke, N.C. State, and North Carolina's last five schedules including this year's."

Now throw NC State into the comparative pool, still favorably to UNC.

Quote :
"We've been ripping on Roy Williams a lot lately. But I guess that'll happen when you call out ESPN and the media when a supposed freshman sensation has some struggles at the start of his career.

I don't agree with everything Roy Williams says or does - like kicking out a fan for yelling at a guy shooting free throws, or blaming media for a freshman's struggles. But taking risks on the schedule to show appreciation for your players...I'm all for it."

And in true persuasive textbook form, he opens and closes with some slights at Roy. An attempt to frame his praises in put downs so as to not come off as a total dick sucker, but which is totally see through. Obvious ploy is obvious.

this article is not objective at all. I don't think it's part of any conspiracy of the media one way or the other, but it's definitely an article where the journalist is taking one in the mouth for Roy Williams, and by extension UNC bball.

Quote :
"I don't know what his intentions were [when he thought up the piece]

But the result is a UNC dick-suckin' column"

I think some of you guys are missing the point. Dude was sucking UNC's dick in a blog post. Rail on him for drinking the kool-aid, fine. But it doesn't illegitimize his journalistic integrity. It was an editorial arena, not a fact-reporting article. It's like dudes who call sports radio and bitch about bias and guys not reporting all the facts -- he's not reporting, he's writing a fluff piece. Totally separate things.

Quote :
"this article is not objective at all."

Like this

It's a column, a blog post -- that's why I called it such in the post you quoted. Articles are not columns. You can write whatever the fuck you want in a column, that's point. Hate on him solely for blowing UNC, not for where he did it.

Basically, he's totally allowed to slurp on Carolina or whoever on the WRAL blog.

all 3 teams have had pretty solid ooc schedules this year. UNC probably has performed the worst of the 3 with a 'lucky' win vs. a over rated kentucky.

when you beat long beach by 5 it might say something about your program...

While IC is a cesspool of UNC bias, UNC has done better at real OOC than we have. We are 0-3. Unc is 1-3. We can beat Zona and go 1-3, but who knows, they are doing better than we are. A win is a win to the NCAA committee. This isn't BCS football where Boise and TCU have to beat opponents by 30. Their are truly no moral victories to the NCAA committee in March. On a side note, Duke is dominating with KState, MSU, and the other team they beat before KState. Unc being reduced to making a topic out of Evansville is just grandstadning before Duke lays it on them twice this season. Of course that has nothing to do with us, we will get pounded by Duke, but UNC has slightly loftier expectations.

thread title: "I really thought our fan base would be excited about Nashville"

haha, its 3 pages worth of explaining why about 75% of the posters over there are NOT going to the bowl game.

One fan sums it up nicely:
Quote :
"Why aren't people jumping all over the tickets through UNC?

1 - disappointing season.....face it....as much heart and soul and fight as this group has shown, we all hoped this was going to be a 10-2, 11-1 or 12-0 season and a win in the ACC title game and off to the Orange Bowl....at worst it was to be the Peach Bowl.

2 - 7-5 vs. 6-6? That's not a draw from afar.

3 - checked the economy lately?

4 - Nashville is chilly in December.....it's not a warm weather bowl game.

5 - The investigation.

6 - The hope and excitement that surrounded the program 6 months ago is now a silent prayer that the NCAA doesn't levy major sanctions.

7 - If you aren't high up in the Rams Club, your seats through UNC will be poor."

Apparently, the Music City Bowl is known as "The Cold Bowl". I am from right outside of Nashville, been to several Music City Bowls (including the first one) and had never heard this term before but now I have heard it from Clemson, UNC, and Bama fans. Really odd, its not like its in Michigan or Idaho, its not that much further north than Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, etc
