Opinions are like assholes and TWW is full them.

I didn't realize that this was one of those threads that people create just to burn one. Meh. This thread will end up like all "name your favorite..." Someone will post item A, and 3 people will agree, then one person will say item A sucks and proclaim item B is superior with 3 other people agreeing, then the supporters of item A will criticize and berate item B.

Cool thread.

Kanki is a Raleigh mainstay. schools literally take kids there for field trips. you're crazy. I'm not saying its the most original thing on the planet but it's some pretty reasonably priced dank teppan style food

Kanki is good for what it is, but in no way, shape, or form is it a 'best restaurant'.

Piper's tavern
Angus Barn
Red Dragon
Kanki
Lilly's
Cooper's
Cafe Carolina
Roast grill

A lot of different types of places but I feel like they are all the best at what they do. Not just the best in Raleigh but some are among the best in the country if you consider the great prices they offer (for their respective class).

I agree on the price/value thing for sure. Raleigh restaurants are underrated

Kuki (closed) and Tokyo House for sushi. Waraji is up there too.
I really like ruckus for pizza but Lilly's is great for toppings so it's a close call. other notables are Schiannos, Andy's and maybe stella mare
Char grill (like it or not) is widely considered one of the best burger places in Raleigh. believe it or not I think Bada has the best though. Duffy's is up there.
Taza grill for mediterranean. Neomode too
Favorite Italian is Amedeo's but 518 West is good too
32nd Street Oyster bar is a damn good seafood restaraunt
The Pit, Old Time and Cooper's have some decent Q
David's Dumpling and Noodle Bar and (hate to say it) PF Changs are the best Chinese. Jade garden and the former Duck and Dumpling are up there (also a David Mao place, along with former Mandarin House)
Carolina Cafe is great but I think Village Deli is the best deli I've ever been to (see cali chicken salad or club)

my overall favorite is probably Margaux's though.

gross. village deli sucks now. and has for awhile IMO.

and the best burgers depend on the type of burger you're going for. if you want a delicious rare burger you go to someplace like PR or the times or someplace where they grind their own meat. i do like char grill but i think you have to be in the mood for their specific type of burger. mojos is along the same lines.

i think piccola and wildflour have the best pizza.

i think places like cafe tiramisu and caffe luna murder amedeos and 518.

i like dos taquitos for best fancy/upscale mexican.

i am not sure what my fav asian place is...i haven't been super impressed with anywhere. places like david's are good but i'm never blown away.

Carolina Ale House would be in my top 10 for "Raleigh" area...
great variety and I really can't go wrong with anything I get there...the nachos alone are worth the trip...great burgers as well
My other go-to places are Kanki, Cheesecake Factory, On the Border, Pit, La Cocina mexican restaurant (apex, garner, clayton, may be one in raleigh?)
Yeah I realize some of those are "chains" but before I get blasted, a lot of the people I met in college were from towns that did not have those type restaurants so it was a treat to them.
I also like Mellow Mushroom...the one in Raleigh is the best one i've eaten at...one in Wilmington doesn't taste the same

Best Steak House: Vinnie's on Six Forks (I like it better than the Angus Barn and Sullivans, never had Ruth's Chris tho)
Best Italian: Cafe Tiramisu on Falls of Neuse

Italian - Bella Monica
Pizza - Lilys, though I eat at Ruckus like 345523X more often and love their pizza (and drink specials, and sandwiches etc)
Steak - Sullivans
Mediterranean - Solomons, Jasmine
Brunch - Oxford? Don't get out much for brunch
Overly flirtatious waitresses - Sammys
Soul Food - Larry's Kitchen
BBQ - Old Time, Q-Shack, the Pit > Coopers (yeah i said it)
Shitty Service but good food - Gourmet Factory
Late night eats - Cookout (dur)
Seafood - um, i got nothing on this one. drive east and hope for the best. Never could get into 42nd street. Buy it and cook yourself.
Thai - Open to suggestions. Always liked Thai Garden off Wake Forest tho...

Nachos, burgers, all around - Raleigh Times

Asian - Shabashabu is good...haven't been in a while tho.

Big City Bagels and Cafe is quickly becoming a favorite too.

Love all the state shit on the walls, but their food has always seemed plain/boring/uninspiring as hell to me.

I really looked forward to going there the first time, but all their entrées seemed heavy/fatty to me. Italian doesn't *have* to be heavy. I am a fan of their other restaurants tho (the cameron and the north ridge pub)

never been to Taramisu or Luna actually so I may be wrong on Italian.

I sense some North Raleigh blood ITT

merbig did call the direction of this thread, but it wasn't a profound prediction. I have a habit of posting in these "best in Raleigh" threads because I'm a foodie and because I'm from here .

^ You're a "foodie" that says Amedeo's does anything close to good Italian food and "32nd Street" is good seafood.

For fuck's sake, man, just stop. Hell, I generally loathe people who call themselves a "foodie" and you are giving those other people who have a shred of taste, when it comes to cuisine, a bad name.

I personally never get tired of Chubby's, Mojoe's, and Gypsy's Shiny Diner. Basically, anything with a possessive proper noun in its name is good eats.

the food at village draft house is pretty bad these days... we used to eat there regularly (maybe once a month) but then stopped going. the ale house tastes much better. (not to say it is anywhere near the same plane as a "fine restaurant")

If I like a restaurant then that means at least one person is into that restaurant...

and that's just too mainstream for me...

everyone has different tastes and these threads are subjective. "42nd Street" my bad the 3 and 4 are next to each other on the keyboard, who knew? If it's such shitty seafood why has it been open for so long in an expensive location and has 4 stars out of 5 in over 400 reviews at opentable. Obviously I'm not the only one who appreciates the food there. Amedeos is a personal favorite and I also mentioned 518 West. Dining is not always about who has the very best food in town but finding places that have a good overall experience that is, once again, subjective to each individual person.

douche.
