I get it...but he's killing this offense right now. How long do you keep waiting when you have Johnson actually hitting some shots right now??

Great plan

Maybe something will happen

I like it

[Edited on February 25, 2012 at 5:15 PM. Reason : Johnson is a huge liability, too. People forget that really he sucks. More minutes will expose that.]

[Edited on February 25, 2012 at 5:15 PM. Reason : This team just has zero depth, that's the real problem.]

as opposed to right now, where NOTHING is happening. I'll take "maybe" over "nothing" every time. or, are you tryng to say that "maybe" wood will wake the fuck up and not be a dead body on the floor for 40 minutes

Didn't think I would ever see him miss as many wide open threes as he did today. Hope he gets his shot back for our last prayer of a chance in the ACC tourny.

Really?? He hit 5 threes this game, he shot like 20 in the 4 game losing streak.

My argument has always been that if he's not hitting his shot, he doesn't need to be in the game. Wood has been pretty consistent in that he's either hitting shots or he's not. He hit a couple threes in the 1st half, so obviously you keep him in if his shot is feeling good.

But if not...you give his minutes to someone like Alex Johnson, who had 8 assists and 0 turnovers and drew a couple of key chargers (and also hit a big 3 late in the game).

IMO wood is better from 3 or 4 feet behind the arc...it's like he gets a bigger extension on his shot

More distance to cover for someone closing out. The best three point shooters won't care if they are 20 or 23 feet away so that extra space makes all the difference in the game. Still wish the college three mirrored the NBA..

I understand where you're going with this, but this just isn't how you coach a shooter, especially one of Scott Wood's ability. You have to let a shooter "shoot through it". If you keep flip flopping between giving a guy like that the green light anytime he catches it and benching him whenever he isn't hitting his shot you will completely ruin him. You have to let a guy like that find his rhythm. Because a great shooter could miss his first 4 or 5 shots and then hit 7 or 8 in a row.

My only gripe with Wood is that, much like his dad said, he doesn't seem to contribute much else when he is having an off night. It's as if either his whole game is ON or his whole game is OFF.

Then by your definition, Scott Wood is not a great shooter. I'm sure he has some games where this has happened, but if he has, they are very few.

From watching Wood in his three years at State, he either has a bad game or good game. I think he lets shit get in his head a little too much (witness his struggles at the line, and in general, since missing his first free throw). I'm not saying yank him after his first missed shot, but if he's obviously struggling for the better part of the first half, then try going with someone who can actually contribute in other ways. Different teams also seem to be able to shut him down moreso than others. If UNC looks like they have him bottled up (as they have done throughout his career)...then don't keep forcing the issue. Get someone like Johnson out there who can actually penetrate, get an assist, or draw a charge.

Scott Wood has not shown me that he can shoot his way out of a slump. Normally I would say keep him in there, but I think we finally have enough offensive weapons to where we shouldn't keep forcing his three point shooting on the offense. And if he's not contributing anything to the offense, get someone in there that can.

You do that one game and pull him out then the next game that is going to be in his head. "Should I shoot this? If I miss a couple then I'll get yanked. Maybe I'll just pass it instead." We can agree to disagree. But we aren't that deep this year. Who are you going to bring in to replace him? The guy still has to get minutes simply because we only have a 7 man rotation.

^I'm not saying sit him on the bench for the rest of the game. But if he's missed his first couple wide open shots 10 minutes into the game, or if UNC defenders aren't letting him breathe, then bring in Alex Johnson and switch it up a little bit.

Clemson game Scott Wood was 1-5 from 3 pt range (1-6 overall), 1 rb, 4 asts, and 3 turnovers in 40 minutes.

Alex Johnson played 12 minutes, had 5 points (2-3 fg, 1-2 3pt), 1 asts, 2 stls, in 12 minutes.

Wood was having a horrible game, and for some reason he played the most minutes on the team.

Not as drastic, but similar numbers in UNC game. Wood wasn't shooting well (UNC was defending him well), Johnson was doing decent, yet we keep plugging away with Wood.

When Wood starts showing that he can shoot through a slump...then by all means, keep him in there. But we've got one decent option in Johnson this year and we'll have another great SG and SF coming in next year, that can spell him when he's not hitting. He just bogs down this offense too much when he's cold.

19 pts, 3/7 from 3. and he almost had three lay-ups! did he tie a career high with 5 rbs (V)?

edit: he had a fast-break lay-up and one, another fast break lay-up, and missed a lay-up that was followed by leslie. and converted on a 3-pt trip to the F-line.

I guess he's been working on his Dunk more than his outside shooting.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but this is exactly why I wasn't in favor of us benching him during his slump. For us to have any chance to finish the season strong he HAD to come out of it, and I think the best chance of that happening was for him to keep playing and taking shots.

So far it looks like he's come out of it, knock on Wood.
