^^I don't think anyone was saying not to start him. You gotta start him and see if he can hit a couple shots.

He's done that the past few games. So obviously you don't bench him. But if he comes out flat against UVa, you gotta see if Johnson can come in and give us a spark.

I'd love to be wrong and see if Wood can shoot his way out of a bad game...can't remember the last time he's done it. If he can't, give his minutes to Johnson in the 2nd half.

wow that basket to end the half was huge. i really hope that helps scott get back in the groove and come out hitting them in the 2nd half. we really need him to be a threat to pull away from them in this one, i think. especially with how well leslie and howell have been doing in the paint (if they can stay out of foul trouble). adding some Wood 3-pointers to the mix should prove too much to handle.

cmon pack, fucking win.

He was terrible except for all the space he opens up for the bigs. If only they could open up space for him

if howell would make 1 of 10 layups maybe they would crash in our bigs instead of literally holding woods jersey the entire game

Come on. He makes these same shots in other games. He disappears in big games.

He had two or three open threes that he missed today that would have been HUGE had they gone in.

he's also not as good at moving without the ball as the commentators like to say. lots of standing around and not using picks effectively.

PAINTER SCORED FIVE POINTS AND GOT FOUR REBOUNDS IN 24 MINUTES.

WOOD SCORED 2 POINTS IN 35 MINUTES ON WORSE SHOOTING THAN PAINTER, ACCOMPANIED BY 2 TURNOVERS, INCLUDING THE GAME-LOSER, TO PAINTER'S ZERO.

SHUT UP ABOUT PAINTER.

Painter is never good. He should be kicked off the team. He also let zeller get all the points and rebounds he wanted.

Wood is our second leading scorer.

He has faults, but he is not a complete abomination. Maybe he doesn't start next year. Painter should never even see the floor. We are talking about 2 completely different class of players. Get some perspective

It's about expectations. Our team doesn't rely on Painter to do anything but take 10 sixteen footers and make 3 of them

We NEED Scott to make 3s to win. Was Virginia the only game all year where he didn't show up and we still won?

wood/painter discussion, the distinction is choking or not. painter puts forth the same mediocre product every game, meanwhile wood is supposed to a valuable member of our team so when he disappears in big spots it kills us

Vandenberg will take Painter's minutes next year. He can dunk and rebound better than Painter can. Fact.

Actually vandy is a far inferior rebounder to painter. It's not even close

Look, Wood isn't a great athlete. So when a team schemes to shut him down, especially one as athletic as UNC, it usually happens. But he does occupy the other team's best perimeter defender and makes the other team account for him at all times. That helps the offense. There is a reason he has started every game of his career.

Also, he almost had THE play of the game if not for some amazing defense by watts late. I mean, he saw Howell and didn't hesitate to pass it to him.

^ and if you wanted to be more like wood, you would have found a way to void that one entry into the drawing.g

This guy has an amazing game on occassion, but his penchant for stupid ass plays and terrible defense makes him a liability the majority of the time

That's because he rarely does. He plays for the shot block/contest on every shot and isn't able to get back into rebounding position.

Also he lacks lateral mobility so the ball has to come right to him. Painter on the other hand has an average rebound rate.

Although Leslie has really turned the corner and become our best player by far, Wood remains the biggest x-factor. Provided we don't get shitted on by the committee (not a lock by any means), our post season will largely hang on Wood's performance(s). If he catches fire, we can make a deep tourney run. If he's useless, we're probably one-and-done.

Well at least by the this point we know that Wood gets a lot of attention that indirectly opens stuff up for AJ and Zo. This is a positive.

Is there any chance our opponents won't know about wood really or won't take him seriously based on his recent performance. I have a good feeling they will know who heis but give him room by playing a sagging defense or maybe even a zone to slow down our inside play which will definitely be their main concern.

FSU plays sagging off the ball d and before they adjusted, he used to go the fuck off on them because he had room to shoot. Nobody in the ACC has really given wood any room to shoot this year.

i realize you're just talking here, but hoping that the other team doesn't realize you have a guy that shoots 43% from three is not a viable basketball strategy.

Theres a difference between "a guy who shoots 43% from 3" and "scott wood". Wood is prolific. I am hoping they guard him as if ihe's a "guy who shoots 43%" and not as if he's a prolific JJ redick like UNC guarded him yesterday.

what in the fuck are you talking about?

how is wood better than a 43% 3pt shooter? 43% doesn't mean on wide open shots.

I was watching Scott Wood Marion HS videos this morning

Guy was passing, driving, making his own shot, taking more than two dribbles... it was amazing

He was playing against players of similar or higher caliber

I would think that he would have progressed so that he could still ball on players of similar or higher caliber
