^That is my fav movie ever. I must have seen it a hundred times. I used to watch it when I was like 5 years old, which in retrospect is extremely inappropriate for a kid of that age, but hey that was the 80s.

(oops, I didn't type the entire name "An AMERICAN Werewolf in London")

^lol, yeah, not appropriate for a 5-year old, pretty gory... I hate that the art of "real" special effects is gone and isn't coming back. We watcged all the special features, including a lot of the making of the film and how the special effects were done.

I love how creative special effects teams had to be to achieve their goals. Not just the visuals. Documentaries on how people had to come up with the sounds they needed are always fun to watch.

Fall of the House of Usher is good, but not great. Though honestly part of that feeling may come from the (intentional) loathing of all the characters. They're just such horrible horrible people.

Tamerlane was the only one who seemed like a halfway decent human being, but her portrayal of that woman from the Midnight Mass just makes me loathe her as an actress. She does such a good job of playing horrible people that I can’t separate that from the actress.

^Well other than Lenoir, of course. Watched finale episode last night, meh. At least everything was summed up nicely. Little preachy though.

Saw 5 Nights at Freddie's last night. Bleeeeeeeeeh

I watched the '86 Trick or Treat. Pretty decent nostalgic horror movie. Gene Simmons and Ozzy had cameos (and the main character was Skippie from Family Ties).

The First Omen was pretty good IMO. Very intense, with some pretty graphic and far out scenes. When it's over you definitely take a deep breath.

2 weeks ago saw Late Night with the Devil. Was solid, but didn't "build" the way I had hoped it would. And a few parts (mostly towards the end) were a bit confusing to me.

Still want to see Immaculate, but at this point I'll probably wait for it to hit a streaming service.

I watched the 1983 Sleep Away Camp. The ending is a doozy....

Are the Terrifiers worth watching??

^ I too wanted to see what all the hype was about, I watched one and two on Friday. They were fine, but nothing great. Check them out if you want to see some ultra gory shit, but you’re not missing any kind of masterpiece if you skip them

Yeah I was let down by them. Honestly the gore is just so overtop I was uncomfortable. And it takes a lot to get to that point with me

I saw Terrifier 1 and 2. The gore seemed like it was more there for shock value than anything else -- kinda like the Hostel and Saw movies. Art the Clown seems like they are trying too hard to make him a horror icon like Jason and Freddy, but are missing the mark.

Watched the Salem's Lot remake, it was okay. Felt rushed but was a fun vampire movie. Good for Halloween season but nothing super great about it. I will say that there were some creepy shots with the glowing vampire eyes.

Watched V/H/S Beyond a few days ago and its the best of the series since V/H/S 2.

Art the clown himself is pretty spooky. They could have gone in some different directions and probably made the movies much better.

But I agree with the gore in those movies. It’s just over the top.

I went back and watched the '74 Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Still one of my faves (mostly for the nostaligia)

Then i watched the '03 remake (with Jessican Biel). I'd seen parts but never watched it through. It was okay, not terrible, it had vibes from the original.

A few days ago i started watching the '22 remake. I wasn't able to make it very far into that one before stopping it.

If you want to see a classic (but apparently somewhat forgotten) horror movie from 1977, check-out The Sentinel. It was just put on Netflix. Really weird, not "boring" like a lot of 70s horror, and lots of actors from that era. Vibes of Rosemary's Baby and The Shining.

Beverly D'Angelo (National Lampoon's Vacation)
Jeff Goldblum
Christopher Walken
Chris Sarandon (Fright Night, Child's Play, Princess Bride)
Meredith Burgess (Mickey from Rocky)
Tom Berenger
Ava Gardner

We started watching some 80s Giallo movies this weekend... they're like the Spaghetti Westerns of Horror. Currently watching Stagefright.

Also re-watched the original Wickerman.

I watched Maxxxine over the weekend (HBO Max). Not that great unfortunately. X was pretty good in an over the top fun way, Pearl wasn't bad (I had no idea it was actually a prequel until I started to recognize the scenery/sets from X). Maxxxine was the weakest of the three though. I did appreciate Kevin Bacon's intentional over the top acting though.

Spoilers for Maxxxine - was that her dad on the TV in X?

Also, all I could think of while watching the reveal in Maxxxine was - you mean this girl came from a family that had to have had multiple millions of dollars? How else would he be able to afford a mansion in the Hollywood hills?

And I did enjoy Smile 2. The way they get people to do that smile in these movies will never not be freaky.

Honestly, I found the facehuggers more scary in Romulus than the standard xenomorphs. With the xenomorphs at least it is a quick death. The facehuggers scurrying around and jumping all over the place and whipping their tails and stuff creeped me out.

Trailer looked pretty interesting. I was kinda curious if Danny Boyle still "has it" so I was at his wikipedia to see how long it's been since he made a movie, when I found out there will be a part 2 and that Alex garland is involved. The former makes me feel more worried the latter makes me feel a little better.

[Edited on December 12, 2024 at 1:10 PM. Reason : Oh til Alex garland wrote the other ones]

Is that really the first time that a human has actually given birth to a xenomorph in this franchise? Seems like they would’ve milked that years ago.

Chronologically, Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens. So Ripley is out floating in space for the duration of Romulus. Yet, somehow the android in Romulus knew that she was the only survivor. And also, the android in Romulus was the first to say "Get away from her, you bitch!".

^I thought Hugh Grant did a really good job as a quiet psychopath, but the backstory behind what his character's motivations were seemed kind of weak for me.

Also, does the Mormon church actually send out young female missionaries like that to strangers' houses? I know the male members of the church go from door to door and stuff, but I'd think teenage girls would at least have some kind of adult chaperone or something.
