It's important to note: she outperformed Obama in Florida. She exceeded all his margins in Democratic counties. She matched his raw numbers everywhere else in the state. Trump's voters turned out in numbers that no one saw coming in rural areas. They turned out for Trump's protectionist and xenophobic messaging. They did same across WI/MI/PA. Those voters are why she lost, and it's silly to suggest that another D on the ticket would have flipped them or kept them at home.

Exit polls are coming in. Looks like Trump actually did slightly better with minorities (2-3% points) than Romney, but Hillary did substantially worse than Obama (but still far better than Trump).

Looks like the attrition from the emails maybe shaved off enough support to give trump the edge overall.

Interesting that the polls before the election got Clinton's support exactly right, but they underestimated Trump's support. My bet at this point is not an issue with sampling, but the questions just weren't phrased in a way to tease out people who supported trump but were ashamed to admit it.

Looks like white women may have been the actual tipping point, trump won them by 9%.

I was completely and utterly wrong. I have no idea how disconnected I was from large swaths of this country.

I hope two and four years from now we can come back and bring balance back to government since at every level this is a Republican controlled country now.

They didn't turn out for a populist message, they turned out for a white nationalist message.

If the party has their heads in their asses as far as you do, the democratic party is fucked. Youre unable to see how those results show that a populist message would have done much better. Totally out of touch like the rest of your inept party.

This shit is the fault of you and your ilk, I hope that you realize it and feel like shit

I'm someone that didn't vote for Clinton but would have voted for Bernie.

I'm just going to try to be optimistic that he'll fill his cabinet with talent from both sides and hopefully the next four years won't be quite as disastrous as the Shrikesters will have us believe.

Meh, do I question if Bernie would have had a better shot at winning? Of course I do, I question everything I believed before the results came in because most of it turned out to be completely wrong. At the end of the day, this will come down to 1% or less difference in WI, PA, and MI. Maybe Bernie could have flipped that margin, maybe not. I think the main take away is that soft Democrats need a charismatic leader to bring to them to polls. I've said all along that was her biggest weakness.

And I don't feel like shit about being wrong, everyone else was too. I feel bad about what this means for the country.

His followers have also shown a rejection of any criticism of Trump as well, meaning Senate and House Republicans aren't really going to hold him accountable for any ethics/legal reasons or else they'd basically have to face down their base.

So I expect Trump to run the country like his business, tons of lawyers attacking opponents and concocting bogus legal theories to support ethically dubious positions.

And there won't be a damn thing liberals can do about it

Also, Nate Silver did turn out to be right (sort of). His model was less bullish on Hillary's chances because it accounted for the possibility of a large across the board polling error. Of course he thought it could only max out ~3%, it ended up being ~4%. So his model was basically right, it's the polling that was completely wrong.

Over the next 2 years, they need to find a charismatic voice with little baggage. I have no idea who that is.

Like I said, I question everything I believed about this election. I do think that the people who turned out and voted for Trump would have done so no matter who the Dems ran.

More evidence that Hillary performed well in areas that Democrats typically perform well in, Trump just massively overperformed. The only outstanding question is where the overall drop in turnout came from. My guess is it's mostly from Democrats in rural/suburban white areas who just weren't motivated to vote for her.

I think that is mostly true but she lost a lot of independent voters to no votes that could have gone democrat had they put anyone else up there. Same could be said about Trump as well though I guess.

I'm sure the full on assault of anyone concerned over illegal immigration or jobs in this country as being a "basket of deplorables" racist zenophobe didnt help any. Watching democrats incite violence at Trump rallies only to find out that the DNC was actively organizing the violence REALLY didn't help either. The DNC may have done just as much to get Trump elected as Trump did. I have trouble believing Sanders would have made these same mistakes.

How are people 100% sure it is over? She is going to win Minnesota and NH. Only 95% have counted in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania? I mean it is unlikely but still.

Hillary performed lower than Obama with every minority group and women. 70% of Trump voters said that his treatment of women bothered them. This wasn't about racism or misogyny. It was about lesser of two evils logic. The race to the bottom eventually gets you to the bottom.
