It was televised. If you got on the feed at 7 it was on. Then they cut it off for like 10 minutes

Before the season: "Gee, I dunno if anyone on our team except for Beverly can shoot 3s"

During the season: "I'm fine with literally anyone shooting 3s except for Beverly"

^^look, I was hoping his defense had improved during the off-season. It has not. He still regularly loses his man, leading to 3 point attempts where no one is within 10 feet of the shooter. It's godawful.

In Western's previous game, they took #25 Furman to double-overtime (but lost 88-90)....

So either Western isn't completely terrible, or Furman is way overhyped and had a terrible game.

Furman is definitely not a top 25 team. Western Carolina is ass. Furman is better than WCU, by about 200 spots in kenpom. So maybe furman had an especially bad game. Or Western played good. But Western Carolina is very bad and Furman is not a top 25 team

I wonder how real Furman really is. Beating two of last year's final four when no one outside of the Carolinas has ever heard of you is kinda cool.

I'd love to know how teams like Iowa, Indiana, Syracuse and Kansas state are ranked and we aren't.

Undefeated with a win over Villanova (and last year's tournament darlings) would get any team ranked. But, I'll say it again, pre-January polls are dumb as shit and are completely inaccurate.

^yeah i don't disagree. i get why they're ranked. but they aren't one of the best 25 teams. because...like you said, pre-january polls are dumb. and speaking of which...

Quote :
"To avoid playing on another team’s campus altogether is a sin of cowardice and ego that eventually can’t be ignored — like when we’re more than a month into the college basketball season. So this week I removed Duke, Kansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Villanova and Texas from my Associated Press top 25 ballot. That’s No. 1 Kansas, No. 2 Duke and No. 3 Tennessee, as other voters deemed them this week, so clearly I had an impact. I didn’t even put them through the paces of an evaluation. Because, while in some cases they have impressive neutral-site wins, they aren’t playing the same game as the rest of college basketball. They haven’t yet been tested in a true road game.

It’s a standard of fairness I’ve chosen to set. I did so last year, too, removing a couple of these same teams. As soon as they play a true road game, they’ll be back on my ballot. No penalty. No need to climb over other teams. It should never be that way. Every week should be a fresh analysis of everyone. Tennessee, after it plays at Memphis on Saturday, might be my No. 1 next week. When Kansas rejoins the rest of society in two weeks, the Jayhawks could be deserving of No. 1. They might be now. But you don’t really know that when they’re busy dodging true road games. So, for this week, they’re out."

He says he didn’t even bother evaluating those teams. I get if you wanna take a principled stand and knock em down a peg because they haven’t played a road game. But to completely ignore them and not even evaluate them is fucking idiocy and laziness. Polls are stupid anyways, but that dude shouldn’t be voting at all

Give that dude all the votes!

He's still better than the coaches poll, where coaches/their underlings vote for teams when they don't even know if they won or not.

He makes a valid point. Those coaches know that if they go on the road early to Tulane or wherever that it's gonna be a packed house and they typically don't take the risk. There are reasons why these programs avoid scheduling early road trips.

The other thing to consider is that the SOJ can be pretty shaky this early in the season, although many people will argue that road games are irrelevant when the team's SOJ is so high.

Just my opinion though. I agree with him.

Do some coaches intentionally avoid early season road games? Duh. Is that a valid reason for not even evaluating those teams when you are a top 25 voter? Nope. The dude’s full of himself and he’s just being lazy.

It's early in the year and the poll is a joke now anyways so I see no problem sorry it. At least he explains his reasoning, unlike the people who do dumb shit like not vote Terrone Prescod onto any of the All-ACC football teams (or have Bradbury as the second lowest vote getter on first team offense.)

For a while I thought Braxton was over-hyped this year, but looking at the numbers now I'm not so sure. Part of it could be his hand injury, and I've heard talk of him being seen on campus wearing a boot for some sort of foot injury. But though he hasn't been as impressive as last year, his numbers aren't *that* bad.

He's down 10% on FGs, sure, but he's hitting 3's at the about the same rate so far (32.6% this year vs 38.5% last year). Also, is PF per game is just under pace for last year (2.3 this year vs 2.7 last year). And that's all while averaging 10 less minutes per game.

So while he hasn't impressed me so far, I wouldn't say I'd be overly concerned (except maybe that Mercer game!). He has had a bit of a dry spell the last few games, but he showed up some for Wisconsin. I'm hoping the break gives him some time to heal his hand.

He's still garbage on defense. But that not starting and playing 10 minutes less helps limit that damage.

we really need him to be a consistent deep threat. and so far this year he hasn't been. i'm hopeful he'll be able to regain his shooting form.

Penn State is #42 KenPom/84 RPI. #9 in Defense but #339 in luck. They don't look as strong as last year, but they did beat VT.
