Might as well get this started. From the recent scandals at tOSU and Maryland, to the new mascot for Ole Miss, Tony the Landshark , the 2018 season appears to have started off with a bang and there is still like 3 weeks before the games start.

Wait, so they're still the Ole Miss Rebels, but their mascot is now a Street Shark instead of a bear?

I thought our rivalry with UNC was pretty heated, but we've got nothing on Ole Miss and Mississippi State. This article is about the Ole Miss scandal but details how Mississippi State had a hand in their demise.

Here is a discussion that could be fun. If you could create your perfect ACC what would it look like? The caveat is that it can only consist of current members (including Notre Dame if you want, making them a full football member), former members (USCe & UMD), any former Big East football members, and lastly any teams that considered joining in the past (i.e. Penn State). Also you can only max out at the current 14 member status. You don’t have to use all 14 memberships. You could go down to 12 or even back to the old 9 member conference which I grew up with and had at the beginning of my tenure at State (2002-2006).

If I could have my own ACC I would have a 12 team membership so that basketball isn’t as watered down. I’d have a North & South division with the NC schools being split up with Wake and NCSU in the South division to preserve our rivalry with them along with CU and FSU. If I had to expand to 14 I would have Pitt for their rivalry with WVU and also they have generally been pretty good in basketball and football, and I would add USCe to have the rivalry with CU. I also would consider going to a 10 team ACC if the landscape of college football changed back to needing more regional rivalries due to decline in nationwide popularity.

My 12 team ACC

NCSU
UNC
Duke
WF
UVA
VT
WVU
UMD
CU
GT
FSU
UM

Nope fuck Maryland.

Big 4
Clemson
GT
FSU
UVA
Louisville
Miami

Fuck BC. Fuck Cuse. Fuck VT.

I don't think you should use WVU since the ACC didn't want them to join.

You don't need 12 teams for a football championship anymore so we go back to everybody plays everybody (x2 in basketball)

[Edited on August 17, 2018 at 1:18 PM. Reason : I mean shit, let's add fucking ECU to the mix since they want to be in the ACC as well]

Any school that resides in a state that does not border the Atlantic Coast should be disqualified. No West Virginia, no Louisville. And to hell with the rules, I say 16 teams for the sake of an extra exciting ACC basketball tournament.

ACC North
BC
UConn
Penn St
Syracuse
Maryland
Virginia Tech
Virginia
Duke

ACC South
NC State
UNC
Wake
South Carolina
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Miami

Discussion in the NC State football thread got me thinking, which teams do you think are consistently overrated and underrated? Tennessee since Fulmer got fired has been one of the ones off the top of my head that gets hyped up a lot in preseason only to fall flat on their faces.

USC, Texas, Miami are ones that everybody wants (media at least) to declare as “back” as soon as they win one big game. Not that they’re overrated in terms of what they’ve accomplished, all 3 programs have impressive tradition and history. But in a preseason poll they seem likely to ranked a few spots too high a lotta times. It seems like people can’t be content with saying “Miami/Texas/USC is good this year, should be a solid top 15 team” it’s gotta be “are they back? Can they contend for a national title?!?”

I live in Miami and I can attest that Miami fans are some of the most delusional. They no doubt are college football royalty, but their program for much of the past 15 years has muddled in mediocrity. Their team last year was very good, but also caught some lucky breaks early on. The fans were calling in to the sports radio shows saying “we’re going all the way this year,” despite most knowledgeable people telling them that they were good, but they were not at the level of Clemson and Alabama this year and it showed in the final 3 games. Dan Lebatard seemingly every week was both praising the accelerated rebuild Mark Richt had done, but also cautioning the UM fans that they weren’t quite ready for the big stage, and he is a UM alum. No doubt Mark Richt has done a phenomenal job there and is well on his way to making the Canes the best program in the Coastal division and a threat to make the playoff for years to come.

The Big 10 seems to be overrated/over-inflated every year for no real reason. Their track record doesn't support that it is a dominant conference.

But their formula as a conference works, they get a lot of teams high pre-season ratings, then play nobody as a conference for 5 weeks inflating all their records, then beat up on each other and have like 3 teams finish 10-1 making it seem like they all played this really tough schedule.

I think they have 5 teams in the top 15 in the AP pre-season poll? Really?

Wisc, Penn St, Ohio St are legit, i honestly don't know enough about what Mich St or UM return to know if they warrant that ranking. but along those lines, Michigan is one that seems to be overrated under Harbaugh. Harbaugh has done a good job there obviously, and is in a tough division. but he's yet to finish higher than 3rd in the division.

i think legit cases can be made for Penn St, Ohio St, and Wisconsin...none of those teams have lost more than 3 games (including bowls) in 2016 and 2017. obviously they have new rosters and have to replace great players...but i think they've earned the benefit of the doubt till proven otherwise. you have to go back to 2013 to find the last time Wisconsin lost more than 3 games in a season. and you have to go back to 2011 to find the last time Ohio State lost more than 2 games in a season. you can argue they've feasted on a weak schedule i guess, but i'm not sure i'd say they're overrated. i'm not trying to ride hard for the B1G, cause i don't really care about the conference...but OSU, Wisconsin, and PSU all finished 2017 as top 7 F/+ teams and were all 3 in the F/+ top 10 in 2016. that's a solid track record in recent years

Wisc won’t ever lose more than 3 games in a season with the schedule they play.

This year is the same thing. They will lose 1 game, then lose in the conf champ game making people claim whoever they lose to (prob tOSU) is amazing for beating a one loss Wisc team.

How about Wisc ever play anyone good OOC?

Also the bowl thing is skewed last year because by not getting into the playoff it bumped all their teams down in bowl games so they should have won it was all matchups where like the #3 in their conference was playing the #5 in the other.

Ultimately watch the teams, they have talent at spots but overall the conference is always overrated and benefits all year from the inflated pre-season rankings and bad schedules.

The big ten is a shit conference. NC State wouldn't lose more than 3 games a year either playing those schedules. They play 1 big non conference game, the others are patsies. They play ~2-3 decent teams in conference and the rest of their teams are fucking garbage. AND they start out with ridiculous preseason rankings which keep them ranked all fucking year despite not doing anything to deserve it.

Michigan might be the most overrated program in the country. Harbaugh has been all talk at Michigan.

they played LSU in 2016, Alabama in 2015, LSU in 2014

i don't think the B1G is some juggernaut...i just think it's better at the top than y'all give it credit for.

Wisconsin (B1G runner up) played Miami (ACC runner up). Ohio State (B1G winner) played USC (Pac 12) winner. Penn State (Tied for 3rd in B1G) played Washington (Tied for 2nd in Pac-12).

Team that is continuously overrated heading into every season? How has no one mentioned Notre Dame?

Those fools are always over-hyped, and this year they're sitting at 12, and that already feels too high.

I still believe that had we beaten Clemson and gotten to the ACCCG we would have beaten Miami last year. They had some lucky games last year (FSU and GT in particular), which had they lost would have basically been back to the Al Golden results. His final year they actually went 8-5 (5-3). If LSU goes on to win this game it will be a fun drive to work listening to the local sports radio here in Miami.

Ohio State's "suspension" of Urban Meyer is about as serious as an indefinite suspension by Coach K. This is a fucking joke.

Also, ECU is going to Florida because their next game is in Florida and they want to practice. If Greenville floods they probably won't have classes anyways.
