Nope, they've both been offensive coordinators at power 5 schools before. And they both had poor results.

Aye my bad. Shouldn't have lumped 2017 rushing attack in there. Didn't realize McDonald/Kitchings were coordinators at Vanderbilt and Syracuse, but regardless I was trying to state it's their first time co-OC'ing together - I'd think there would be some natural growing pains through the first couple of games.

But I'll stand by what I said earlier - we were bad running the ball last year. Bill Connelly's preview goes over as much:

Quote :
"Despite Gallaspy’s 1,000-yard status and the apparent quality of the offensive line, State pretty much stunk at running the football and therefore didn’t do it a ton. They ran just 55 percent of the time on standard downs (national average: 60 percent) and 27 percent on passing downs (35 percent)

The Pack’s run game really was strangely bad. Opponent adjustments were kind (they were 66th in Rushing S&P+), but the raw stats were universally awful: 104th in rushing marginal efficiency, 128th in opportunity rate (non-sack rushes of four or more yards), 112th in stuff rate (run stops at or behind the line). Gallaspy was far more efficient than any of his backups, two of whom return: blue-chip sophomore Ricky Person Jr. and redshirt freshman Trent Pennix.

Again, that was with three highly decorated linemen. Starting tackle Justin Witt does return, and Joshua Feed-Jackson and Joe Sculthorpe appear to be solid interior linemen, but the running back position has so much to prove. 2019 would be a very good time for both Person and four-star freshman Zonovan Knight to prove their potential."

I think a large part of our "bad" running game last year was Gallaspy.

we were very much not explosive last year in the run game. gallaspy was a workhorse but not a particularly great one.

I'm not saying he was bad, but he definitely was a poor fit as the lead back in our running scheme.

Guys maybe this season is just a regression to the mean. Historically (since WW2) we’re a 6 win program. It’s likely the last 2 years were outliers on the good side of the bell curve. We’re probably due for a 5-7 win “setback” year.

So just to rehash

This year was a rebuilding/transition year all along. It appears to be a bigger rebuild than I/most fans had hoped and assumed. Most, but not all, of that has hinged on disappointing QB play. Given what our recruiting and roster look like, 2020 and 2021 have (still do) the potential to be bigger seasons where expectations can be higher. Again, a lot of that hinged on us finding the QB of the future this year. That needs to be the goal for the rest of this season - find the QB of the future this year. All 3 (plus Ty Evans) are young and could lock up the position and provide stability for a few years if any one of them can actually prove to be reliable. I’m all for letting the guy with the highest ceiling try to figure it out this year and set us up for a more promising 2020 and 2021.

We can still make a bowl this year - GT, UL, BC, UNC, Cuse....those are all winnable games. We won’t win them all, but could surely find 3 wins there.

The old school diamond logo is what makes the sign. A number of college football fans would know which Dave the sign was addressing if the block S or Tuffy wolf head logo was used. But with the diamond logo it is almost an inside joke as only the most diehard college football fans would remember that is one of our old logos, while most State fans know about it.

Great two years in a row without Whitt vs Cuse (did he miss all or just part of last years game).

Revised Predictions
October 10 Syracuse Win
October 19 @ Boston College Loss
November 2 @ Wake Forest Loss
November 9 Clemson Loss
November 16 Louisville Win
November 21 @ Georgia Tech Win
November 30 unc-ch Win

We end up 7-5. Feels like every game is a toss-up game, except for Clemson and GT.

We are NC State you can't take any game for granted. We easily beat GT on paper but DD's record on the road is not encouraging.

But DD's record when we are favored is very encouraging. Especially for noon games, which this will likely be.

At this point, I think we get wins over Cuse, Louisville, @tech. Depending on how our offense goes this week, @BC could be a toss up. No way in hell we win @WF. UNC-CH is just rolling, I don't see us beating them by the end of the season.

https://www.pff.com/news/college-pff-rankings-starting-quarterback-rankings-for-2019

PFF rated all 130 starting QBs through the first 6 games.

Here's the blurb for Matt McKay/Bailey Hockman:

Quote :
"95. NC STATE: BAILEY HOCKMAN
If there’s one area for Hockman to succeed on that you’d like to see, it’s from a clean pocket where he’s currently completed just 54.3% of his passes and has the country’s second-lowest passer rating (77.4) without pressure in his face. Making matters even worse there is that former starter Matthew McKey only had a 78.4 passer rating from a clean pocket."

After not taking 1st team reps since before the season started, getting put into the game a few drives in on the road in a hostile environment, and our team going in with an offensive gameplan more designed for McKay?

This is a much better situation for Hockman given he's getting 1st team reps, he knows he's the guy for 2 weeks preparing for this game, the game is at home, and our gameplan should be designed more around Hockman/Leary and what they can do versus McKay.

Guess we are their rival

I went to take the survey and it splits up football and basketball, which makes things more complex after unc

Also it seemed long so I gave up like 4 steps in

Actually this data might be SUPPOSED to be for the football only, but given dukes place on ours, that was confusing.

1) make a damn game thread

2) I know we’ve been over this dozens of times. But I always get confused by this. The game is listed as being on RSN/ACC Network Extra. So I think if you’re local that would be Fox Sports South or whatever it’s called? I wish we could just called it Fox Sports South instead of RSN.

Get the app Thuuz (on Android anyway), it tells you the channel for your cable provider. It's fox for me in Florida

it should be less confusing now that Raycom no longer exists

they can't just say Fox Sports _____ because not all the RSNs are the regional fox channels. there are also NBC and AT&T regional sports networks (and YES) that broadcast ACC events.
