People in a minority who became successful would usually use that success to lobby and advance their group forward

either way it is irrelevant to the larger point being made, but I've lowered my expectations on that front

Is the GOP historically less than to LGBT and POC?

Has Tim Scott spoken up about that and tried to change his party, or has he said that type of racism doesn't exist at systemic level, dems/reps are the same, and said homosexuality is morally wrong?

Is he upset about that treatment, now, when it affects him personally?

He is not trying to change the republican party from the inside in any real way, he agrees with them and is trying to win their support.

You might say he hung around with leopards and then was upset when they ate his face.

^^Lol, he's talked about the importance of Republicans reaching out to people of color, even in the primary debates.

You would be correct if he tried to put down his own community to advance himself within the GOP, but a lack of action (even assuming that to be true) doesn't constitute that, cause he should have the right to live on his own terms. and that's all I'm really gonna say cause this is a futile discussion

And I'm not even trying to defend the GOP here, of course there is an inherent racism

Reaching out to people of color isn't trying to make changes, other than changes in the number of votes thet get.

And sure, he has every right to live his life on his own terms and citizens have every right to criticize him.

Yea the discussion is based on what moron posted. I don't really care about that I was just responding that if it's true, it fits LAMF criteria, certainly way more so than the experience of an immigrant.

ok let's try this again. on the ballot are

Biden
Trump
Ron DeSantis
Nikki Haley
Marianne Williamson
Dean Phillips

who gets your vote?

I had to Google Dean Phillips and saw that he said he doesn't want Biden but also
Quote :
"Phillips voted with President Joe Biden's stated public policy positions 100% of the time,"

So what's his deal? Just thinks Biden is too old/unpopular or has true policy disagreements? Guess I need to research more.

Phillips was elected to the House in 2018. Was motivated to join politics after Trump's election in 2016. Spent most of his career in business and did well for himself. Generally capable of self-funding his campaigns, and makes a point to highlight how most of his colleagues spend nearly all their time fundraising, while he gets to focus on legislating and doing what he came to Congress to do. Didn't agree with the way the Democrats were uncritically coalescing around Biden for a 2020 reelection campaign. Stepped down as co-chair of Policy and Communications Committee due to these differences. Notes that 80% of Americans do not want to see a Trump-Biden rematch, and increasingly the polls are showing that Biden is easily behind Trump, and the Democrats are just sleepwalking into an inevitable defeat by not having a real primary and facing Biden's weaknesses head-on.

his youtube has a decent collection of videos https://www.youtube.com/@DeanPhillips2024/videos
he's also done a bunch of interviews and podcasts since he officially entered the primary last month.

To be fair, it was always a 0% chance the GOP primary would pick someone other than Cheeto when none of the other candidates would actually attack him. Instead, they all spent their time trying NOT to attack him, while saying how much they were like him.

I could see it being Tim Scott if Scott debases himself even more so than he’s done so far

But trump is basically just following the fascist playbook and the playbook says to pick someone completely subservient to the leader, with no spine of their own.

So we probably are looking at a kari lake or Donald trump jr type of figure for trumps vp choice.

Hopefully this means we get the primary race we deserve.

Trump is supposedly furious that Nikki won't drop out, so there goes her VP nom.

I think it's great she's going to stay in the race and waste both of their money for at least another month, hopefully more of his than hers

^disagree, Biden is quite underrated in my opinion. I disagree on some stuff, but they've done a lot of good that is being ignored (even by the "liberal media") who choose to remain cynical

I notice a lot of people who just hear the "wah why do we have two old guys who suck as our choices" and start repeating it (not saying you are, this image just reminds me) cause it's an easy way to make a statement without taking a side. it lacks nuance and also discounts how much of an issue Trump is and acts like we're in a normal situation with just two old guys being the issue.

These polls are getting depressing.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/poll-biden-trump-economy-presidential-race-rcna136834

Quote :
"Biden trails GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump... by more than 20 points on which candidate would better handle the economy. And Biden's deficit versus Trump on handling immigration and the border is greater than 30 points...

The poll also shows Trump holding a 16-point advantage over Biden on being competent and effective, a reversal from 2020, when Biden was ahead of Trump on this quality by 9 points before defeating him in that election."
Quote :
"Also in the poll, Trump has the edge on securing the border and controlling immigration (35 points over Biden), on having the necessary mental and physical health to be president (+23), on dealing with crime and violence (+21), on being competent and effective (+16), and on improving America's standing in the world (+11)...

The two men are essentially tied on the issue of protecting democracy, with 43% of voters preferring Biden and 41% picking Trump."

When did he ever? It's not like it is a sudden change. People have believed this since 2016.
So many Congressional Republicans have been complaining about Biden and the Border for a while now to their constituents and base... and Trump is the alternative.

Perhaps the following details about the poll can provide a glimmer of hope:

28% of the respondents are retired
12% of the respondents are the age of 75 or older
The poll skews 37-24%, conservative/liberal
The poll skews 19-11% very conservative/very liberal

Even if we estimated the polls were inflating Trump's popularity a bit, when considering the electoral college, it isn't a stretch to see who's "on top" at the moment.

Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin were all won by Biden by less than 1% margin.
Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Michigan between a margin of 1 and 3 percent.
Combined, that's 76 electoral votes, more than enough to switch the results of the election.

And even that was a huge "save democracy" type election, and even then, it was like this.
Combine the years gone by, people forgetting, the "economy" (I'm not saying it is bad, I'm just relaying what people feel), and the popular narrative about Biden being some old idiot who only exists to defeat Trump -- and you have a bunch of low information independent/moderate voters who may go to Trump.
