too late, HTC came out with their own versions that are better, and the NexusOne was plagued with problems and limited to T-mobile. if they wanted it to be a success it should have been released on one of the top 3 cell providers

I just downloaded the Vignette (photo shooting/processing) app for £3 and every time I take a picture that it tries to process (every picture), the app says it has encountered an error. First problem I've had on my Incredible, so I'm gonna have to say it's just incompatibility between the app and the Incredible. Anybody else download this/have difficulty?

HTC makes the Nexus One. A version of the Nexus One is also available for AT&T's 3G bands, which I actually have. The Incredible is basically the same phone with a different antenna and camera. If the N1 is "plagued with problems" then most likely the Incredible is, too.

yes, i'm well aware HTC makes the NexusOne, but they don't call it the HTC NexusOne, it's branded under Google.

the Incredible is HTC's branded version, so there's no need for "Google's/HTC's" NexusOne to come to Verizon if HTC already brought the Incredible, that's exactly my point.

does the Incredible have the 3G issues (possibly antenna related)? or problems with Wifi? customer service issues? subsidized price eligibility issues? proximity sensor issues? trackball issues? lock button response issues?

Is the GPS on Android phones as good as (or better) than a moderately priced Garmin or TomTom?

Does getting the NCSU Employees discount (23%) require more than just the email address? (says Im eligible with the email, but Im guessing there may be something else required).

No one that I know with the Incredible has those issues, and neither does mine or my friend's N1 on AT&T.

IMO it's 100x times better than my Garmin Nuvi 200. The only downside is that Google Maps doesn't have offline maps, so if you happen to lose your data connection and need to load new maps/area it's rendered useless. I've installed another app that offline maps, but I haven't had to use it yet.

I don’t know about other phones, but on the Droid at least, when i was out of the country, I disabled the cell radio, and the GPS never would get a lock. Sucked because Google SkyMap is worthless without working GPS.

^ I had the same issue with my iPhone 3G when I was overseas...for the first few days I didn't have a sim card installed, and couldn't get any GPS info when on WiFi nor geotagging of my photos. Then once I got a local sim (on which I only had a voice & text plan, and had the carrier specifically disable all data) it was again able to show my location on maps and in photos I took from then on.

I've already pre-ordered the evo, but I played with the incredible and really liked the size of it...I hope the evo isn't awkwardly large

cue the "you probably should have thought about that...blah blah" comments

I'm coming from a touch pro, so I figured the large screen would compensate for the lack of physical keyboard...time will tell

Got the 2.1 update for my eris this morning. Seems slightly faster so far but I've mainly just been trying to set all of my widgets & shortcuts back up. Hopefully it'll improve a bit.

2.2 on the Incredible will be disgusting, if it improved the N1's performance by about 450%, I'm assuming it'll do the same to the Incredible. Since they are essentially the same phone, after all....

^ agreed. The JIT compiler must work magic... it is way too buggy on the G1 right now. Apparently Google has it dialed in perfectly. Remember this increase is for non-native apps though (which would free resources for native apps though).

maybe we'll find out this week, i think it's really going to depend on which devices can support Flash well. they aren't going to push an update w/ Flash in it if they're going to get massive question from consumers on why their battery life got cut in half.

i'd assume August/September maybe as early as end of June if you're rooted.

2.1 came out in Dec., Droid got it March 30th.

i gotta say i used Wireless Tethering on my Droid last Sat. and web was almost as fast as my desktop, could stream HD video fairly ok, just one or two pauses every 2 minutes til it could cache more.

ATTN EVERYONE:

- So I'm assuming the Droid Eris still has Flash Lite 10.0

Quote :
"With the impending release of Android 2.2 (Froyo) at Google I/O this week, there are a few questions which seem to be popping up quite frequently"

can you confirm that all evo owners will HAVE to pay for the 4g dmidkiff?

I'm a little perplexed by the battery life of my Droid and hope that someone might have some insight into this. While here in my lab at work, without having Wi-fi, Bluetooth, updates, or really anything other than just the phone on, it drains at a surprisingly quick rate (from 100% at 6:30 in the morning, down to 20%-30% power by 4:00 in the afternoon, with maybe 1 phone call for no more than 5 minutes in there). What makes me more curious is that while in Washington, D.C. last week, I was using it extensively for GPS maps, 3G browsing, several lengthy phone calls, and other miscellaneous uses, and it didn't drop below 40% in a 12-hour day period. Now that I'm back home and in the lab again, it's back to quick drainage. I absolutely didn't do anything different to it at all, and I've been watching the task manager to see if anything is running it down. I can't see any difference at all. The only thought I have is if it's struggling to stay connected to phone service. I had an old HTC 8525 which would burn itself out super fast if it wasn't in range of a tower, but I don't know if the Droid will do this as well. I'm right in the middle of Raleigh on Six Forks road and am within throwing range of a Verizon store, so you'd think that the signal would be higher strength than 1-2 bars at any given time.

I get garbage service at my school, 0 bars if at all... the only place to get enough service to send MMS is in the center of the gym, above the library, or in the back parking lot. I typically put my phone into "Airplane Mode" and I can use all of my offline apps... it takes extremely little of my battery. Perhaps you should do the same?

It fluctuates all over the spectrum, but is usually between 1-2 bars. The strange thing is that it does the exact same thing when I'm sitting in the Verizon store. Maybe it's just a bad part of Raleigh for Verizon in general?

Sounds like the battery life for that EKEN M001 is only like 2 hours though they claim 16... yikes.

Possible root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6523063

And more info on user experiences, what to expect:
http://slatedroid.blitzwerks.co.uk/index.php?topic=11.0

Because I'm sure you could tweak the battery life with setCPU if it were made to support the M001

Another review of the Eken M001 by some freaky dude that has a Smurf fetish and doesn't own any fingernail clippers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8I6PjXxxJ0

After watching it, I really have to say that I would have 0 interest in that. I'll go ahead and say that I bought an iPad but this thing is so slow that I'd throw it out the window within a few days. Even at $100, I just can't imagine a situation where I'd prefer to use this thing over a laptop or my phone (exactly the opposite reaction that led me to purchase an iPad). Plus, 2 hours of battery life is just plain ridiculous. There's no excuse for that today.

sure there is, it's called $100. iPad is $400 more. if you read the forums, there's already newer firmware being worked on by the manufacturer along with custom ROMs, i agree 2 hours is low, but it's only been confirmed by one reviewer. definitley some flaws though, i agree, it's no where near the iPad, but again it's justified by the cost.
