the thought of dudes actually filling their cargo pockets full of shit is absolutely hilarious to me

I'm willing to bet that that they also wear carpenter jeans and hang a hammer in that loop thing

Not a fan of the shorts toward the end of the last page at all. There's just too much going on. Shorts should be simple.

Land's End has nice looking shorts that are affordable. Dockers casual flat front (not sure what their actual name is) usually look pretty good without screaming "golf course" or anything.

I've got a slight Costanza wallet, a big smart phone, and a keychain that has three bike chain keys, two deadbolt lock keys (one for shed and one for trailer), house key, one restaurant key, and two office keys (two entrances). Then all the petco/harris teeter/bi-lo/piggly wiggly/card shit.

I hate having to take all the shit out of my pockets when i sit down and I don't like all that shit pressed up against my thighs when I'm walking around either. I don't mind wearing nice khaki shorts when the occasion calls for it...but if I'm walking around in sandals and a t-shirt (which is what I do 90% of the time)...I'm going to be wearing my comfortable Columbia Cargo shorts.

You can toss all the keychain cards. There's an app for that. It's called keyring, and it is glorious.

Mine also don't look as stiff as that pair does. Probably because I've washed them a hundred times. They also seem a bit "shorter" than those...but whatev.

But I pretty much only wear them with t-shirts. So I don't go "out" in them. As in nice dinners and such...even then, I have a pair of long khakis and linen pants that do the trick (you can't wear shorts when you are dressing nice). It took me a while, but I finally found a pair of j.crew khaki shorts for those in between nice dinners and when I wear the above that fit my "athletic" thighs and don't make it feel/look like I'm wearing skinny shorts.

I still don't feel like I'm wearing my highschool/abercrombie/americaneagle/pasttheknees cargo shorts when I'm wearing the above. They're not long, not huge cargo pockets, and extremely airy and comfortable. And yes...I like to carry all my shit in the pockets.

ok... a plastic d ring for your.... idk, keys on a carabiner, or a fucking pocket watch... please tell me you hang a compass from there.

those are shorts for bull dyke lesbians to take on trekking expeditions up the Appalachian trail using walking sticks and toe shoes.

I'm not dependable with my phone...I lose it at my car/house/office and other places where I leave shit. I can't be one those people that puts everything on it. Next... (besides the fact that keys make up 90% of the keychain)

^^Sorry...but I won't sacrifice comfort for style when I'm wearing a t-shirt and sandals. I will admit that those shorts look pretty bad in that picture. They look much better when they are on me.

Costanza wallets are terrible. You need to clean that mofo out. That picture is about as think as my wallet gets. You should also consider minimizing your keys or having a set of "work keys" that you keep separate from your house keys, it'll add life to your clothes in the long run. I can sympathize with you about the giant smart phone, my droid is too damned big, but ce la vie.

I mean, either that or just go all out and get a fanny pack.

I would have to change my absent mindedness...which I've tried to do for years, and its just not going to happen.

My wallet isn't as bad as I make it seem (why I said a half-costanza)...and it will be even better once I get an iphone and get one of these:

But I carry a decent amount of cash, a couple credit cards, and always have a gift card or two around. My regular keys will also never get smaller.

My small "cargo" shorts will continue to suffice for now.

i use this in mahogany as my wallet. see how small that is?

i hate having things in my pockets.

weirds me out.

holds drivers license, two debit cards, one credit card... there's a slot in the middle with insurance cards, and a hundo folded up as just in case cash. you do not need to carry any more than that. ever.

this and my key ring are all i carry. i refuse to use fobs for my car since they're so bulky, 1 car key, 1 house key, 1 office key, 1 desk key. that's it.

i tend to keep my wallet in my front pocket.

simply yourselves people.

The fob is my car key, not having it isn't an option. I've considered a card case in lieu of a wallet since I never carry cash, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I have a brooks brothers wallet/money clip...or whatever something like this is called:

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't keep cash. But I go to the farmer's market several times a week and hit up food trucks often enough that I like to keep cash on me. If not for the cash, I could easily go something smaller.

I wear cargo shorts when going out with my 2 boys (2yr old and 5mth old). I need to have a bunch of random crap to accommodate their unpredictable needs. I don't do a huge diaper bag, so the little extra things go in the pockets: napkins, tissue, toy(s), pacifier, etc.

Deal with it!

On the other hand, I'm with the people that hate bulky keychains. I have both car keys, house key, and a keychain my wife bought me years ago. I can't imagine having a stack of store cards and fobs and stuff on there. Drives me crazy.

speaking of terrible keys, I hate huge ass motherfucking car keys.

Is there anyway they could have made them more bulky and pointy? One huge car key equals 3 or 4 normal keys. And I don't get the option of selectively not carrying this one because it's my fucking car.

Incorrect. When was the last time you were stopped on the street for someone to compliment your pants/shorts? Just because you don't have the confidence to rock them doesn't mean they don't look fantastic.

Quote :
"If you have a big ass and thighs, that style of shorts seems a little tighter, but they ultimately look better in my opinion. "

Exactly. They're not as "safe" as a pair of baggy ass cargo shorts, you can't wear them without a bit of confidence. That's probably why the haters in here are hating, they've got no pride in their game.

Any self-respecting modern gentleman cares about style. Just because you don't care if you look like shit in public doesn't mean it isn't manly to look fly.

As for wallets, I go with one of these in brown. Perfect size, hardly noticeable in a back pocket, and small enough to use as a front pocket wallet.

Regarding shorts, H&M makes decent fitting ones for us regular (read:non-obese) folks, but I've started to find that the inseam is a bit too short so they're a little tight. I just can't fucking win.

the problem with the idea that men shouldn't care about fashion is that it is about the most overtly sexist statement you can make, and reinforces the subtle idea that women are here to do us a favor by looking good, and any fat/ugly woman in public is doing you a personal disservice because of the terror you have to endure through inadvertently looking at her. Even though this sounds laughably bigoted and out-of-date, a surprising fraction of guys still talk like this. Apparently including this one ^

That said, this complete crap that pleated pants are cargo shorts are somehow a fashion crime needs to go. I make that shit look fantastic.

I hate, hate, HATE carrying keys. I have an electronic key pad on my truck and I just leave my keys inside. No matter how many times i've tried I can not seem to cut down on the size of my "key chain".

1 - huge Ford key
1 - Fob
3 - House Keys (mine, parents, lake)
2 - Office Keys
1 - small lock key

like Slave said, i do feel like a dungeon master.

The bottom line is that good-looking people can look good in a burlap sack. Girls will still get wet if they see Ryan Gosling in a pair of Abercrombie cargo shorts that go down to mid-shin if he has his shirt off.

Fat girls and ugly people have to be extremely fashionable in order to get "good" attention and not stand out for bad reasons....but I can still go out and pull strange in a Fruit of the Looms undershirt, Columbia fly-fishing cargo shorts, and sandals. Ugly fat dudes wear that and the t-dub fashionistas will say, "I can't believe he has that on!"...good looking person has the same outfit and "he can pull that off."

You don't think women appreciate/want a well-dressed man? I don't care how much ass you pull in your cargo shorts and sandals, I am certain you'd do better for yourself if you looked good.

About 78 percent of women think that one of the sexiest things a man can do is dress well. Ladies are all about the sexy men and we sexy men are all about the ladies who think we are sexy."

Pardon the source on this.

Like it or not, what you wear conveys who you are. It is the first impression people get. Why not bring your A-game? Why come across as lazy or out of touch? I get that some people might not care how they look, but if that's the case then why not dress well? Apathy isn't an excuse for looking like shit.

When it really comes down to it, it just feels good to look good.

I also don't see the need to be "dressed up" at all times.

Pulling ass?? I'm engaged, don't need to show off to the ladies 24/7 anymore.

First impressions?? I have a good job and my business is on a steady incline. I don't go out unbathed and in dirty clothes. And when I do go out to nice places I dress appropriately, and as someone has mentioned, I do feel good when I dress nice.

But I would say the majority of the places I go are casual, most have outdoor areas, and places I can take my dog. I live downtown and walk and ride my bike pretty much everywhere I go. So I dress comfortably.

I think there's a happy medium here and most people are arguing that you have to be fashionable 24/7...which I disagree with. I wear a suit/slack&tie at my work all day. I'm thinking "comfort" when I get off work...not "will t-dub think I look like a clown."
