You can be dressed casual and comfortable and still look good, or bad. No one is saying you have to be dressed up 24/7. Well dressed and dressed up are not the same thing.

^^ Well I could...and did back in the day. Unfortunately/fortunately those days are over.

^ I agree with that as well. I've just tried on every single pair of shorts imaginable in the past few years...and I've gotten a few that I'm fine with and wear out...but my Columbia shorts are the most comfortable things I've ever had. I could run a 10k in those. So when I take off my suit when I get home from work and want to take my dog on a walk to the bar and get a drink...I'm putting those, a worn out t-shirt, and my hat on and I'm out the door.

having re-read this thread there is one thing that I'd like to ask:

there is no fucking way that in 2012 there are still dudes out there who wear braided belts, is there?

If a girl is judging me on whether or not i'm wearing cargo shorts, fuck her.

Some people care a little too much about fashion itt. Ultimately, it's fleeting and a waste of time and money. I would hope most guys have enough sense to not get caught-up in "looking good" and don't waste their time and money on "fashion".

I have a hard time following the position where men should be interested in fashion... but there are certain ways of configuring pockets and sewing the waist that should be hands-down ruled out.

When I look at women's fashion, the entire point seems to be that they're empowered to take fashion risks. Men are not. There are some god awful women's fashion items out there, in worst taste than what I ever see on men, but on average their stuff looks so much better. That's what you have with a Darwinian selection, the stuff that many people find tasteful is replicated and then replicated again with further variations. Men's clothing is all the fucking same.

"honestly, i think it's silly for women to care about "fashion" too. I mean, what is "fashion"? ii think it's hot when a girl wears some jeans or jean-shorts and a t-shirt. is that sexist?"

Check for consistency! I don't personally take this view. I think it's nice to exchange compliments about what looks good. I think that, alone, is enough to say I'm interested in fashion. Plus, females love compliments about their clothes like smiley faces.

The most beautiful girl I ever dated wore jean shorts and a v-neck white undershirt 90% of the time. She had a ridiculous body but always hid it underneath those clothes. When we went "out out"...she dressed up and had great style...but she was casual and comfortable the rest of the time. I really dug that about her and like it much more than the girls who care what they wear 24/7...that shit is for the birds.

I want to say I did that...but I can't remember if I did or I'm just remembering my friends that did. I definitely rocked some braided belts back in the day. I also had some Sambas...although I never owned a pair of Airwalks.

It doesn't have to take time or money. I don't have a lot of money and don't own a lot of expensive clothes. Putting on something that fits well and looks good doesn't take any longer. All it takes is a bit of thought. It really isn't hard.

Style and fashion are different things, by the way. This will all make a lot more sense if most of you can get past that hurdle. We're not here to argue the merits of runway shows in Milan or anything silly like that (things I don't care about, since I don't have any interest in high fashion), we're talking about style. You can have style without having an interest in fashion. You can also have style without dressing fancy or dressing up. It's about looking put together.

This guy has style, but do you think he cares about "who" he's wearing?

Same with this guy. Nothing fancy here.

Price aside, I love some of the faux-outdoors khaki fabric. The synthetic thin stuff feels great and can look awesome. I don't like the extra stitching patterns they often add, but it depends on the design.

it's fine if you have no sense of aesthetics, if you're ascetic. But whether frivolous or not, fashion is still functional art. I just wonder if Bullet has the same disdain for for all excess and luxury in design and material.

that said, i'm going camping next week. I hope i can find some cargo shorts in time.

When you grow up in a small town...you either try everything or you try to be a poser for everything. My group of friends played every sport and went through about every phase there was growing up. We "skated" for about 9 months I'd say.

No offense, but TWW women that have endured the people on here long enough to rack up a few thousand posts are not really the target demographic. Normal rules don't apply you, since your time on here has likely left you with thick skin, a skewed view of males and an altered set of expectations.

cargo pants just don't happen to be on that list

i feel like i probably responded to this thread when it was made...and at that point, i was wearing cargo shorts, t-shirts, and chaco flips almost exclusively to work

now i wear polos, jeans, and actual shoes to work...and it sucks...the thought that i might ever have to wear anything nicer than this on a regular basis makes me sad

i still rock the cargo shorts when i'm not at work, though...besides them, i only own a couple of pairs of mesh gym shorts, a pair or two of swim trunks, and a pair of board shorts for lounging around at the beach

No, YOU were talking about "fashion," or whatever you think that is. Everyone else was talking about dressing like a grownup, having some style, and looking put together. Fit is probably the most important aspect of that.

And no, I'm sure you don't. Just because they don't fall off doesn't mean they fit.

I like some of the combinations you can get with the colored wife beaters, and I've got compliments on that. I think they can be very nice with button up shirts, and they should be generally acceptable for exercise as well.

They have a strange place in popular culture. The name is hilariously non-PC, but no one seems to care, or even have another word to call it... and there are correlations with the type of people who wear these visibly in public. But guys don't have the array of options women do for light tops. We got the torn-off-sleve shirts, wife beaters, bare chest, and that's about it.

Style and fashion are both artificial and ever shifting social constructs. There is nothing inherently more beautiful about a pair of shorts that has fewer pockets.

^^exactly. what is "style" or "fashion"? it's people trying to impress other people with "cool" clothes they saw in a magazine or on an actor or model.

you don't know who i am or what i wear. you're becoming more and more comical as you keep trying to flaunt your superior "style" and "fashion" and how "grown-up" you look.

I know you wear cargo shorts and you've said yourself that you don't waste time being concerned with how you look. Considering how you don't seem to understand most of what is being discussed in this thread, that isn't a huge assumption to make.

stop wasting money on comic books and Steam games and find a decent pair of shorts. Also stop ordering your shirts from bustedtees.com. Just make sure you was the cheetos dust off your fingers before you go flipping through the clothes rack.

I wouldn't say that style is 100% trying to impress other people. Style in anything (clothes, interior design, etc.) can be as much about what you enjoy and what makes you feel good as it can be about trying to impress other people.

My wife and I don't have tons of people all the time or anything to show our house off, but we both love interior design and spend a lot of time on projects and things around the house to improve the "style" of our house. I do it because I love design, I enjoy aesthetics, and in the end I feel great, comfortable, and love being at home because of our functional, stylish home (in our opinion of course). Do I like to share it? Yes. Is it nice when other people compliment something you did? Of course, we're human. But that actually isn't our primary goal.

That can certainly be said for clothes as well. Yes, a lot of people do it completely for show, but lots of other people actually personally enjoy being what they consider "stylish." And beyond that, it can give people confidence. Much like someone who dresses sharply for an interview for a date.
