Schafer, Gattis and McCann(2) all homer to lead the Braves to an extra inning 7-6 victory today.

BJ Upton currently being benched as the Braves tinker with his swing. Hope it helps. Glad that Schafer has played so well in his spot duty. Braves have a pretty deep lineup now considering that they have three guys that can fill in well in the OF (Reed Johnson, Gattis, and Schafer), have three solid catchers, plus guys like Chris Johnson and Juan Francisco who are solid hitters as well. And Pena has played well too. Wish the team could get more guys on base, but I guess we'll be feast or famine all season.

As for last night, Maholm sucked again. After his hot start, he has been awful. Hudson too. Minor really has been the Braves best pitcher this year. I still wonder what the Braves will do if/when Beachy gets back. Maybe a 6 man rotation for a while giving extended rest to Beachy and Teheran?

I dont think you will ever see a six man rotation again with the way bullpens are done now and having to pay starter money to six players... not sure what the Braves are going to do when Beachy comes back though. Pretty much a daily topic on Chuck and Chernoff.

Jaybee's "you'll never see a 6 man rotation again" argument is weak. I assume you heard some sports talk radio guy say that shit and are just repeating it. Yes you will probably never see a team with a 6 man rotation for an entire season, but I guarantee a team will experiment with 6 starters in a rotation again for some period of time at some point in the future.

It makes sense for the Braves to work Beachy back in with a 6 man rotation especially with Teheran likely on some unknown innings limit. Granted if Maholm continues to pitch like shit, they may just demote his ass to long relief. Speaking of long relief, when does Christian Martinez get off the DL??

using up a bullpen spot on a 6th starter? sure, it may happen here and there due to DL list timing, rain delays, etc., but obviously we were talking about a team doing it for an extended period.

And I love how "some sports talk radio guy" in a major market would be any worse than anyone else's opinion on here... Someone who likes sports just as much as you and probably more who ALSO gets paid to follow sports and who ALSO is based in the city of the team that they are commenting on and who ALSO works for flagship station of the team in question, that person doesn't know as much as Ronnie Frank Long in Roxboro.

^ At least you admit that you stole that dude's comments. You are like the douche bag guy in the bar that Matt Damon owns in Good Will Hunting.

As for my name, you were close, but no cigar. LOL at Roxboro too. As for the 6 man rotation, I brought it up in this thread as I think it could be a real possibility in the short term for the Braves when Beachy returns. You are the one who took it as if I was saying it would be a permanent thing.

And in my experience, many sports radio guys suck ass and are just homers that have super biased opinions. Therefore their analysis usually sucks. I am not saying that I am better than them, but you are the one playing off that dude's statement like it came from the mouth of Jason Stark.

I cannot ever remember a Braves team this up and down. We looked like the Astros hitting one night and then the next, we look like the damn '95 Indians. I still predict that the Braves will get no-hit at least once this season. 1/3 of the way into the season and there are still three regulars hitting under .200 which basically means 44% of the Braves lineup each night is hitting under .200. Crazy...

Curious move to DFA Francisco as there is no way he clears waivers. Leaves them thin on the IF if someone gets hurt like Pena or C.Johnson. If the Braves really needed that 12th pitcher which obvious Fredi and Wren felt they did, Reed Johnson would have been the guy to cut since Schafer and Gattis are both playing well and Gattis has taken over the #1 pinch hitter role.

They aren't really that down. Sure they went 2-2 they lose 3 and then sweep the next 3 teams if they do this all year it's a 95-105 win season

Alex Wood might be about to make his debut.. LHP into the mid 90s. Had been a starter but maybe he'll stick around in the pen with no other lefties

^ If Wood pitches well, the Braves are hoping he can fill the lefty setup role left vacant by the Venters and EOF injuries. Moves like this have worked in the past with other young starters (Wainwright and Joba come to mind).

When I say the Braves are up and down, I mainly mean the lineup. One night they score 7, the next 0 on 4 fucking hits, and the next they drop 11. Just insane. But yes if they can continue to put together 5-6 game win streaks all year mixed with splits and 2-3 game losing streaks, it will be a very good year come October.

i really like Schafer/Simmons 1-2 combo at the top of the lineup. Keep BJ on the bench for awhile longer while Schafer is playing well. but my god something has to be done about Heyward

A very power heavy lineup but last night they scored 11 runs last night mainly with singles only 1 extra base hit and 2 homers. I think they got the leadoff man on in almost every inning which is really good.

Braves have also been a dominant home team and getting a series with division rival Washington Nationals. If they can take 2 of 3 they will open up a 7.5 game lead which will help when they start to go on a patented 2 out of 10 stretch.

^I would say last nights lineup was almost the least power-heavy that our lineup can be. You replace BJ with Schafer and Uggla with Pena...Gattis has a lil more power than Heyward, but its not like Heyward is a 10 homer/yr guy

Laird is probably lucky he did not get the boot over Francisco. Wonder why they'd take him off Teheran as he has been pitching well with Laird unless they feel like they have to find more ABs for Gattis.

BJ with RBIs in back to back games for only the 2nd time this season. That is a good sign for the Braves. If he can start hitting and they can figure out what the heck is wrong with Heyward, the Braves offense might starting rolling. Pena is playing so well, the Braves may as well try and trade Uggla for some sunflower seeds. No reason at all to put him in the lineup seeing that he's one of the worst defensive 2B in the game.

The Braves got a warm body for Francisco, I would say that is a win.

Keeling was 0-1 with 3.18 ERA in 17 app. for Double-A Huntsville, with 15 hits, 10 walks and 19 strikeouts in 17 innings. He's 25.

Francisco is a perfect DH type guy on a team looking for some pop. Why the Brewers want him is beyond me. Oh well this Keeling guy will likely never see the majors, but still better than nothing. Time to trade Uggla too.

Speaking of DH type guys. The braves better wrap their arms around Gattis. If he stays anywhere as sloes to as hot as he does he will break every DH record ever

i was pretty shocked to see the umpire toss Martin so early last night. I know he and Burnett were unhappy with the strike zone and perhaps Martin did say something under his breath, but still. Definitely seemed to change the shape of the game, for the better, after that.

Happy as hell that the Braves have a 7 game lead, but also realize they play in arguably the worst division in baseball so far this year (AL Central sucks too). Can't believe how strong the AL East is again and the NL West is very deep.
