Okay so I was really confused with what was going on with Locke at Craster's Keep since none of that happened in the books. After looking into it, his character was kind of created out of Vargo Hoat -- apparently he was sent by Roose Bolton to retrieve Bran and Rickon after Theon revealed that they were still alive. How it was known that Bran would be at Craster's Keep I don't know.

the whole Theon storyline is jacked up, especially looking ahead to next week in the previews.

I really had high hopes for this season, given the content in the books, but its been a pretty massive disappointment for me so far

I thought it was pretty obvious that he was listening in on Jon Snow and the other guy looking at a map and talking about how they thought Bran would be going towards Craster's Keep if he was north of the wall. Then when Jon Snow asked for volunteers to go to the keep that he volunteered for the mission to try to get to Bran first.

I get this thread and the other thread mixed up when I see it listed as last post on the Message Boards page

Anyways, my previous comment was about what happened in the show a couple episodes back. I've never read the books.

Good episode, and it looks like they are veering some plot lines back to the book. They've reached the end of Storm of Swords Dany content and are nearing the end of all written Bran content, but still have plenty of ground to cover in King's Landing, in the North, and on the wall. Once Bran's a tree, it won't matter how old the actor looks, which is why I imagine they are looking to get him there asap. I'd say there are easily two seasons worth of content left, with Winds potentially adding 2 more. Assuming it's released in 2015, that gives him until 2018 to get the last book out, which sounds plausible. The problem is, the showrunners are saying they've always planned on only 7 seasons, which means the TV series ends the story June, 2017. So basically, either they back down from those plans or there is no way the show doesn't pass the books.

GRRM will just hire the show writers to ghostwrite his books and will let them publish one per year while he spends his time writing erotica about lavish feasts

someone should just post in the regular thread that the name of episode 8 (in two weeks) is "The Mountain and the Viper" (per the wiki page). That should end the discussion about the champions pretty quick

^^^lol thought the same thing. Didn't they change the actor who plays the Mountain for the third time? So in the preview it just showed a big dude swinging his sword, I don't see how people would know that was the mountain?

LudaChris will be like "I haven't read the books but I predict the next episode will be called 'The Mountain and the Viper', it is pretty obvious that they will fight and everyone will think the Viper is gonna win using poison on his blade but in the end the Mountain will grab him by the leg, pull him down and gouge his eyes out. Then Jaime will probably release Tyrion who will kill Shae and Tywin on his way out."

that scene was beyond stupid. They literally spent several episodes (including the finale last season) going into how Yara/Asha is going to assemble the fiercest fighters and fastest ships to rescue her brother. Then when the finally find him, his captor and maybe a dozen guards (all caught off guard, btw) they give up mid-fight once they release a pack of dogs? Give me a fucking break

Also, if he did in fact have the advantage, why would Ramsey just let them go?

The more I think about that whole storyline the more pissed off I get at the show writers for wasting time

That was pretty bad.

Also...was Ramsay all cut up from fightig his way to the dog kennel or because he was cut-up during his fucked up sexscapade?

They didn't leave because they were outmanned, they left because Asha realized that Theon was no longer Theon.

I dont know maybe I'm different, but if I saw my brother (who I traveled for weeks/months to rescue) in the physical/mental state that Theon was in, alive, that would make me want to bring him with me even more than before.

If she never really liked him why bother trying to rescue him? If it is to bring honor to her family name or something that isn't really pertinent since Bolton has everyone convinced that he is actually Reek and not a Greyjoy.

Yeah, but it wasn't bad in the show. Peter Dinklage is a little god.

Also agreed on the idiocy of the Asha/Ramsay scene. The GIF above is on the money.

loved Arya's reaction when she found out Lysa was dead, also her conversation with the Hound about not being a very good killer because he wouldn't use poison was good considering whats going to happen to the Hounds brother. Jamie and Tyrion's simultaneous grunting impersonation of their cousin killing beetles was hilarious.

I'm thinking Ygritte might go next episode, and Tywin will last until the very end of the finale.

It wasn't Jaime who mentioned the chamber pot, it was Baelish.

I so want to say something like "Damn Baelish, enough with the spoilers" in the main thread.

i haven't read any spoilers either, but how can you cut her out? given the way the single jaime chapter ended in ADWD i think she clearly has a major role moving forward and leaving her out would too greatly alter the way the show plays out versus the books. it wouldn't be like cutting a throwaway character like strong belwas.

I don't think they would cut her out, but I think we may not see her this season, Tywins death will be a pretty good surprise, I think they'll save the stone heart surprise for next season

I hope Stoneheart is in episode 10... and I think they're trying to set that up with Brienne and Pod already being out in the wilderness

But between the Shae and Tywin stuff, along with tying up some other loose ends (Arya on a ship to Braavos?, Hound getting sick, Jon Snow becoming commander, Sam off to Oldtown?, Coldhands?, Mountain finally dying, Bran/Jojen/Meera), I don't know if there's time in the last couple episodes to introduce her

I suppose we'll mostly only see the Martells next season, so I guess we don't need to worry about their reactions to Oberyn's death, at least

Looking forward to however much they can cram into the last couple here

with all the stuff they need to wrap up by the end of the season, I thought it was really stupid for them to waste 4-5 minutes of screentime on that stupid beetle story. I kept hoping for some great moral to the story (i.e. drawing a comparison of the moron who kills beetles for fun to the king of the seven kingdoms, but that never happened).

also, I wonder how they are going to tie together the Arya going to Braavos storyline, I dont remember her ever getting this close to the Vale/Sansa in the books...

I love how what she posted was absolutely not a spoiler unless you have read the books or know the story, yet the news outlets post the story and say "if you don't get why this is a spoiler, let us explain exactly why"

I know they put a spoiler tag at the beginning of their article but still. It wasn't really a potential spoiler until people who already knew what it was pointed it out and explained why it was, thus actually doing the spoiling of anyone who runs across it.

That's cool though. I honestly thought they would completely skip that because I thought I had read many times that GRRM regretted reviving her that way.

she didn't really. The road to the Vail was closed and so they turned back towards Riverrun before the Hound ultimately became too weak to carry on.

Finally watched it last night and thought it was one of the best episodes so far in the show. Arya's laughing, Sansa's lying, Ramsay being Ramsay, setting up for the showdown at the wall, and of course the fight...all were done perfectly. Interestingly enough the one thing that I thought dragged on a bit was Tyrion and Jamie's dialogue before the fight. That beetle story was a bit much.

Even though it didn't happen in the books...Arya laughing at the news of Lysa's death was awesome. And the fight was done perfectly, IMO. I don't know what they could have done better. I was a little surprised that they didn't throw "poison" around a little more...but I'm guessing they might use it more in the final two episodes as The Mountain is still "dying". I remember seeing Oberyn's assistant wiping his spears with the cloth and thinking that he was putting poison on them.

I think CtoA mentioned in this thread or the other one...but even knowing what was going to happen, they really built up the tension in that final scene. Especially when Oberyn pointed to Tywin and demanded that Gregor name the person who gave him the orders. Then the quick trip, confession, and popping of the skull was just phenomenal. I made sure my wife looked away...but I wish I could have been in a room with a bunch of non-book readers to see their reactions.

Bravo HBO, Bravo.

Well yeah they didn't outright say that he had poison on his blade but I think a few times it had been mentioned that Oberyn uses poison and obviously the discussion between the Hound and Arya.

only thing that could've made the fight better is if they included the part where gregor takes off the top half of the stableboy's head.

I get that. But I feel like it was mentioned many episodes ago. My point was that I don't think the average TV watcher had any inclination to think that his spear might have been "laced" with poison. While in the book, IIRC, it was was pretty well known that their was poison on his blades. I think I remember them talking about how the first cut on Gregor was either festering right away or almost caused immediate paralysis in whatever body part it hit.

I know it didn't happen in the book...but it definitely could have been implied from the episode in her bedroom scene and the one following where she comes out, cleavage showing, with a lot of confidence. Almost "glowing" like a woman that just got railed...and liked it.

Who said she was "interested" in bwning Littlefinger? To me it seemed just like you said it...she knows she has to play the game. Maybe she played the game by finally letting Littlefinger fuck a hot Tully?

I took it as two possibilities. She said she knew what Littlefinger wanted:

(1) To bwn Catelyn or her hot daughter

and/or

(2) To Rule the World

So her and Littlefinger either bwned or they hatched a plan to rule the world.

Barely...did it have to do with taking over the north?? Either way...they've shown that they are willing to deviate heavily from the books and I'd put money on littlefinger bwning Sansa given the opportunity.

Where have they deviated heavily from the books? My wife and I were commenting that this was probably the most true to the book tv series we've ever seen. They skipped the whole Selmy = Aristan Whitebeard thing but that was kind of irrelevant anyway. Jaime got back to Kings Landing a bit early, <shrug>.
