The official word from the show runners is that it was not rape, which seems like an awfully awkward position to take given the content of the scene.

Well, the wildlings look like total fucking pussy refugees so far. Hard to have a suspenseful battle with them if they aren't threatening.

I thought it looked like cersei was enjoying it. She would have resisted more if she didn't

wasn't the hound supposed to be "mortally" wounded in the tavern fight from episode 1?

He is a popular character so they probably want to keep him around for the remainder of the season. He'll probably get wounded in the second to last episode and "die" on the last episode of the season. I doubt they'll show him at the Quiet Isle later on in the show.

As I asked in the other thread, how are the views not ok with a rape scene but they can swallow Theon being brutally tortured and then having his dick cut off after nearly being raped by a couple of women?

Hypocrits.

having read the books that scene didn't really bother me, other than i thought it was just poorly edited to represent what actually happened. i guess i'm a misogynist at heart.

I think they're just setting up a SVU crossover episode (which makes just as much sense as caring whether or not fictional characters are raping other fictional characters in a tv show that sees multiple murders every episode with nobody giving 2 shits unless the characters are Starks). Also, as someone who never has (nor will) read the books, it seemed to me that she was put off by his fake hand more than anything else. Not sure if that makes it rape or not, but her aversion to his disfigurement is what I took away from that scene

because theon's torture serves to inform his character development.

much of the violence towards women in the show is irrelevant and seemingly added just for the shock value.

It's a good thing I finished the season before I came back in here. Thanks, dtownral. I don't really know if I can accurately describe or relate to somebody like you, but I wonder if you can understand how pathetic it is to be the kind of person that takes joy in spoiling shows for other people on the internet.

StillFuschia, you're right. I admittedly did not read the original post of this thread and see the disclaimer about spoilers. However, the fact remains that all I did with my original post was express my newfound interest in the show and, as another user pointed out, a subsequent poster maliciously revealed details in the show that, at the time, I was not familiar with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it must not be a foreign concept to see that yes, while the books came out over a decade ago (for the current seasons of the show anyway), the storyline has, speaking in the context of the majority who are familiar with it now, only attained popularity in recent years because of the TV show. Even somebody who tries as hard as you do must realize that, regardless of my lack of oversight, it was still a dick move. By your logic, you could have gone and fucked yourself if I went into your "look at how smart I am" book thread and spoiled all of the storylines to whatever bullshit you were reading at the time. I'm assuming most of these books were much older than 13 years, we're they not?

Your logic:

Didn't little finger already explain the poison necklace thing last week when Sansa first got on the boat?

Also this episode seemed to have the most material that didn't come directly from the book of any ep so far

he showed her that it was a cheap fake necklace and it was from him and not Dontos, but he didn't explain the poison or the conspiracy

And technically he didn't come out and say "That missing crystal was poison" and Olenna didn't literally say "I poisoned Joffery" so there will still be mouth-breathers out there who can't figure it out.

i'm sure there will be tons of people who completely missed the heavy handed scene of her handling Margaery's necklace in the very next scene.

they have been really, really heavy handed with Littlefinger/Olenna's involvement. I thought it was pretty clear after last week that Littlefinger admitted that he was involved, not sure why they went to the trouble of having him admit it again this week. I guess he kinda went into his motives as well, so maybe thats why

also, I've got about 200 pages left in A Dance with Dragons, so maybe I haven't gotten to it yet, but did they ever talk about this group which appear to be the leaders of the White Walkers?

People are stupid though, so they had to make it as obvious as possible. Or they couldn't think of any better scenes to write.

at the pace they are going now, I'm starting to think that the Tywin/Tyrion scene will be in the finale. I was hoping it would be next week, but they didnt even show any of the Oberyn/Mountain fight in the previews

mountain/viper fight will be in episode 8 based on the episode title "the mountain and the viper"

strange, I gotta imagine the writer of this episode didnt put them in without conferring with GRRM, especially since it was the "big reveal" of the episode. I wonder if they are getting into Winds of Winter material

some 4th wall crossing here, Sansa did not see what we did. It was clear to us, it was not yet clear to Sansa. This exchange was the closest to how it happened in the book compared to any other part of the episode.

the one on the horse that was carrying the baby looked like what we've seen so far - but he looked like he was a messenger/carrier of sorts for the others. The others that they showed came up approaching in a group and looked like they had some sort of crown on

^yeah I noticed that, I just think you may be reading too much into it and it was just done to distinguish a little, not establish some whole new type of thing that we don't even know about

i'm not so sure. it's been noted that this season would really start to go off book and if last night was any indication this may be the big start. Both Weiss and Benioff have met with GRRM to go over the end game of all the major characters in case the books never finish or the show ends earlier and discuss ideas where the show can diverge with GRRM's blessing. This may just be the tip of some vastly different material.

^Well I think the point i was trying to get at was that whatever the case may be (and it appears that very well may have been the night king), it doesn't change much for me personally. I don't feel spoiled for anything that may be coming in the book, and it doesn't really change my opinions/thoughts on the walkers

Edit: There is an article on io9 that tries to say that this knowledge changes everything (http://io9.com/this-accidental-game-of-thrones-spoiler-just-changed-1568796246), and I guess I just don't see how it does. Maybe because I already believed that the old legends were true, I didn't see any reason not to

Turning babies into White Walkers and the existence of a hierarchical order within the Others isn't all that spoilerific. Unless you think GRRM was going to give us a White Walker POV chapter, how exactly the babies were used was probably never going to be explicitly revealed. Now if they showed Benjen as a WW, that would have been a spoiler

I'd say it's about 100% certain that the show will overtake the books and I think this is just the beginning of that trend. GRR is going to die before printing another book.
