Even without the best squad that is a great result. Really, the next games to look forward to are the Mexico games in the last stage of qualifying

What a frustrating game. Too bad we didn't have our best 11 out there, a win would have been super duper.

ref fucked that game up for us.. what a joke. we had some serious momentum working until that happened and we didn't get it back until after Masch had his horrific tackle

I thought Mastroeni had a terrific game, same for Pearce, who should be our starting left back from now on

Adu is just so exciting to watch man, even though he didn't do much tonight except get fouled

tevez is their 3rd or 4th best striker

The way we finished that game is how we should start it from now on except keep the defense they way it started and replace Califf with Boca.

------------------Donovan----------------------

Beasley-------------Adu--------------Kljestan

--------------Edu------Mastroeni--------------

Pearce-----Boca----------Onyewu----Cherundolo

---------------------Howard--------------------

and what i meant to say with tevez not being their first option striker, is that this was their A squad..if anything changed aguero out crespo in...

^no bocanegra, anybody but bocanegra, he gets lost on free kicks way too much, and that is usually how we get scored on

I dunno, I've always liked him for some reason. If anything I would replace Oneywu with Demerit or Califf because he's too clumsy and a little reckless sometimes... he's also not very fast

CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Schedule

6/15 vs. Barbados, Carson CA
6/22 vs. Barbados, Bridgetown

Group Stage:
8/20, 9/6, 9/10, 10/11, 10/15, 11/19
Guatemala/St. Lucia, T&T/Bermuda, Cuba/Antigua

Final Group Stage:
2/11/09, 3/28, 4/1, 6/6, 6/10, 8/19, 9/5, 9/9, 10/10, 10/14

T&T should be the only bump on the way to the final group stage. Mexico has a potentially "tough" second round group with Canada and Honduras.

Yeah, I only thought they'd be a though match for Mexico because they beat them in the group stage of the Gold Cup last year.

So things to take away from the 3 friendlies:

1. Eddie Johnson is NOT the solution up top
2. Tim Howard will be our #1 for a long, long time
3. Donovan makes us twice as better of a team
4. Pearce may have solved our left back problems (hopefully)
5. Adu deserves more than 30 minutes a game
6. Beasley is still a threat when he's healthy

what else?

^^^^^That is what I thought when it happened too. It pretty much summed up how this weekend went for the Wolfpack Nation.

2 blowout losses in baseball, Hickson leaves, and Mastroeni gets a BS red card.

I just don't understand what more Adu can do to get more minutes for the US.. and Benfica for that matter. Are there questions about his stamina or something? I mean, he goes 90 for the youth teams on a regular basis so I didn't think that could be a reason.

well clearly it would ruin bradley's 12 def midfielders on the pitch at one time tactic

^^ I don't mind the Edu/Mastroeni 2-mid pairing. Edu is pretty 50/50 when it comes to offense/defense and Mastro provides that enforcer type role, along with some veteran experience. I don't think Bradley is ready for consistent national team minutes yet and Ricardo Clark is a poor man's Mastroeni.

and ^ dude, he's not the right guy for the job... you can just tell he's out of his league on the international level

-bradley, while he has apparently been "great" in holland failed to impress against good opponents in these 3 friendlies.
-clark wasnt good either.
-i really didnt hear edu's name that much during argentina game, i dont know if thats good or bad
-mastroeni seemed pretty good this game.
-adu is our new donovan, but prob better
-dempsey, i have a feeling was on heavy legs during these friendlies after having to somewhat carry fulham in the EPL
-EJ actually got to some balls in the air well against argentina and did well at times in checking to...but his headers were going straight at the keeper, its obvious to everyone he is at least behind altidore
-pearce looks pretty good at left back, he had a bad game against either england or spain, i forget, but hes new to the international scene.
-cherundolo is def our right back still
-i have no idea who we are to play at center back...no one looks confident enough right now
-donovan is our team offensively
-beasley is back...thank god
-after spain and england id be happy if i never saw guzan in the goal again
-cause basically howard is our gk for at least 5 years, maybe 10

^clark didnt play any of the 3

someone said Kljestan should start...really? he didn't do anything really, he's so skinny i think he'd get pushed off the ball....let altidore have another chance

and have we figured out what mastroeni did to get a red?

I'm 100% sure he played against England because I remember Rooney tackling him from behind around midfield and wondering why it wasn't a yellow.

i still cant figure out if clark is bad on this team cause hes playing with bradley in the middle with him or if hes just not made for the international level

^^im still skeptical on kljestan, but he is young and when he subbed in last night he provided a nice offensive spark

apparently the 2nd yellow was for time wasting and the ref didn't realize it was Mastro's 2nd until 30 seconds later

Quote :
""The reason why he said he gave me a second yellow was for throwing the ball to a teammate of mine," Mastroeni said. "It was really strange because they were making a substitution and it wasn't like they could play the ball fast or anything.""

Barbados game tomorrow, here's the roster for both games against them --

Quote :
"Goalkeepers- Tim Howard (Everton FC), Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Dominic Cervi (out of contract),

Defenders- Dan Califf (FC Midtjylland), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jay DeMerit (Watford FC), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Carlos Bocanegra (out of contract), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)

Midfielders- Freddy Adu (SL Benfica), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Maurice Edu (Toronto FC), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Eddie Lewis (Derby County), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids)

Forwards- Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC), Eddie Johnson (Fulham FC), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo)"

Honestly, we're going to kill them with any lineup so I would like to see Bradley put a lineup that was just silly attacking minded... only one defensive midfielder, Adu/Donovan, no Eddie Johnson.. but I'm sure we'll see much of the same bullshit we've been seeing
