i have played the hell out of candy claws the last couple of weeks. such a great album. "fell in love (at the water)", in particular, is one of my favorite tunes of the year.

yep. Definitely one of my favorite albums this year. 3 of my top 5 this year so far are from artists I was not highly anticipating albums from but then they far exceeded my expectations.

It's actually been kind of refreshing that way.

Candy Claws definitely grew on me. I liked it at first but it grew on me with each listen.

Simultaneously surprised and not surprised that the Sarah Neufeld album is all solo violin. Really pretty stuff, although I don't know what else to say about it.

Drumgasm is a dumb thing to be a record. Hilariously dumb, but still dumb.

Zola Jesus rearrangement record is also really pretty, but also a rearrangement record.

Drumgasm is hilarious

and probably not wise to enter a solo with Zach Hill, because he's all I hear on that record

zach hill is totally a better drummer than w.w., but he wasn't in lake of dracula so it doesn't matter.

The Dismemberment Plan, Mansions, Into It. Over It., Russian Circles are the main releases left I'm anticipating most so far. I'm sure I'm missing some but those are the ones staying on my radar so far.

Tech Nine something else

real decent. I usually cant take tech b/c he takes odd times to preach to you.
if he didnt talk about all the time how he isnt mainstream he would be mainstream.

Forgot to mention my anticipation for a new Mew album - although I have heard nothing about it since they said they were going into the studio back in May...

^eh. i don't think it's nearly minimalist enough to sound too much like Postal Service. if anything it sounds too much like one of their own songs they've already released, "Next Year." i like TDCC though, they're really fun for what they are. i still rock tourist history every now and again

I think its going to be "officially" released next Tuesday. It helps that the lead singer is hot

Listened to that Chrvches stream last night and really enjoyed what I heard. I will buy it and listen to it more when it comes out for sure.

Mansions album confirmed for Nov 12th.
The Dismemberment Plan Oct 15th.
Into It. Over It. out Sep 24th.
Russian Circles Oct 29th

Finally bought Haken's The Mountain as well. Pretty killer prog rock record.

I wasn't really expecting a huge year musically, but I ended up buying a ton of records this year (which is big for me because I usually stream albums first and decide if I want to buy). Most albums I was looking forward to lived up to expectations and, even better, I had a lot of good surprises this year.

It's not "officially." That's the release date.

I suppose it's wishful thinking that people/stores will pay attention to release date in the era of instant downloads, though.

I liked Suck it and See, but this one is definitely better. I'd say a close second behind their first in my favorite Arctic Monkeys album rankings.

The first Yuck album was one of my favorites from 2011, but I'm halfway through the new one and I'm not entirely sure it isn't a Matchbox 20 cover album.

Haven't heard it yet, but the first one sounded like Gin Blossoms (in the very best way).
