finally watched this on dvr. we played good, but i really think we couldve destroyed mexico out there and the only reason stopping us from doing so was some rust on some of the players.

beasley didnt look great at first but started getting better througout the game.

donovan did about what he normally does and shouldve blown by marquez(who im glad got a red card for that dirty shit) for a breakaway in the 2nd half.

sacsha and bradley looked like the exact same players out there now that the hair is cut but they did ok. first goal couldve been scored by anyone sittin on the goalline. 2nd goal was a great shot though.

dempsey is still the best player for america. he just knows what to do more than anyone else on the field once we are attacking.

ching was typical ching, didnt do anything extraordinary and prob nothing more special than jozy could do except jozy would have the speed that ching doesnt.

back four messed up a couple times but there was good play out the left side i noticed more so than the right.

we were lucky, however, that dos santos didnt score in the early part of the game when he shot right at howard. if he was in match fit form he prob wouldve scored.

mexico has got to be tired of seeing the numbers 2 and 0 after usa games

Beasley was bad once again. I still think he is the most overrated player in US Soccer history, but oh well. Beating the Mexicans never gets old.

You think Dempsey is better than Donovan when they're both playing at the highest level?

I agree with the rest of what you said but when Donovan is on, he's a game changer... Dempsey doesn't come across like that to me

frankly, i dont think many people did much of anything...

we played too much kick ball, not enough control and passing...but when we did, we had opportunities

imo, howard saves the day again with a strong performance. mexico had better scoring chances than we did but couldnt capitalize..regardless of if they are in match fit form or not, gotta give credit to howard

i was really surprised that this wasnt a chippy match...not the typical mexican team except for marquez cleating howard, didnt really seem like a mex/usa match...i guess sven has control of his players

Yeah, I agree.. it's almost like the Mexico game at home is turning into another ho-hum Concacaf win nowadays.

Except for this of course

Quote :
"U.S. defender Frankie Hejduk was slapped by a Mexico national team assistant coach after the match in an incident near the locker rooms. Apparently some members of the Mexican continent thought Hejduk had made some disparaging remarks, which led assistant 'Paco' Ramirez to step to Hejduk and slap him. A small scuff ensued and was quickly broken up. Hejduk later called the incident nothing and called the slap a "Love Tap"."

Somehow I totally missed that Jon Busch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Busch) was on the matchday squad vs sweeden.

Back when I was in middle school he was the goalkeeper for UNCC and I grew up about 10 minutes from there so I was a huge UNCC soccer fan and went to almost all of the home games growing up through about 8th grade and was a ball boy a lot too . When I was in middle school they actually had a really good team and he was a big reason.

I was a goalkeeper playing soccer growing up so he was like my idol in middle school since I got to see him play all the time down on the field and he used to give me gloves and extra balls and stuff haha. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world at the time.

Long story short, I've tried to kind of keep up with his professional career some in which he has done really well lately (2008 MLS goalkeeper of the year). Anyways, random story no one else will care about but I randomly ran across that this morning and thought it was pretty cool.

dont get me wrong, it was a decent game and glad we won but it didnt have all the intensity i thought it would have...

its almost now like "oh well both of us will win our games at home, and move on to the WC anyways so whatever"

I think people are underestimating the presence that Ching brings to the team. He allows us to play kickball up to the front and then holds the ball up for Dempsey/Donovan/Beasley to run forward and lay it off to them and play a counter-attacking style. Unfortunately, he doesn't score enough goals, but his physical presence is hard to ignore. He can help set the tone against certain types of teams, but is still not the world class forward we need.

Donovan was Donovan. He played solid and did what he needed to. Helped set up the first goal. Solid game.

I wasn't impressed with Dempsey though. He seemed clumsy and slow with the ball at his feet in this game. He got through it simply because he's a smart, experienced player though. Plus he always brings the intensity.

Beasley looked rusty. The announcers said he hasn't been playing much for Rangers though so that might be why. Apparently the fans threw bananas at him or had some racial remarks??? I don't know, but if that's true he needs to get out of there ASAP.

Bradley was above average in midfield. He looks good attacking and he always seems to be in the right spot at the right time. Good thing he's only 21 too because he'll only get better. I'd like to see him get a starting spot on an EPL team. I think he'd do very well in that league.

Kliestan was average.

The back looked shaky at times like always. Hedjuk was pressing forward well and had a high work rate but he'll get caught out against better teams. Pearce looked pretty solid for the most part on the left. I didn't realize he led the US in minutes last year. Gooch and Bocanegra are far and away our best centerbacks so we're just gonna have to deal with their inconsistency come hell or high water.

Tim Howard is a world class keeper. Period.

we are a better team than to have to kick the ball forward to a target man...i hate the long ball approach like that. it shows a sign that we are still weak as an offensive unit and with the midfielders we have we shouldnt be. there were a lot of great movements with the ball last night and then someone would just decide to kick a high ball forward to ching, and i was like "WHYYYY!?" to the tv everytime i saw it

and to aimorris, yes, dempsey is better than donovan. dempsey helps back on defense and has a more european style to his game which we need more of in the entire squad if we ever want to win or come close in a world cup. he seems to want to attack defenders more than donovan does too. this isnt a bad thing though. im glad we have to argue who is the better attacking midfield, i wish we had more players we could argue about as to who is better for the national team.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean here but if anything he has a more American style to his game - determined, gritty, battling type mentality that he has to rely on to make up for the gap in technical ability

but Donovan is technically better in so many areas - passing, dribbling, moving without the ball - and he's more athletic - faster, higher level of conditioning. I will agree that if he had Dempsey's mindset (going at players more often and working his ass off) he would have probably been playing with a team like Bayern Munich for a long time now.

But I am a huge Dempsey fan, always have been... in fact, he's probably my favorite player on the team because he plays like somebody with a chip on his shoulder.

I really like that about Dempsey too. Any player that puts that much effort into his game and is as smart of a player as he is will not only fit well into most teams, but they're always getting better because of the mentality they bring with them.

I think he'll do fine in Germany. There is no need to go to the EPL.

god...the us dont look interested in this game at all...i cannot name one player in the first half that played well...awful. we will crash out of the first round of the world cup again if we cant learn how to play in hostile environments...seeing guzan go OMG I CANT HEAR YOU is quite silly(yes silly) in an international game. this just shows how how much this team is not working well with each other.

and lalas you are an idiot. soccer 101 isnt patience against a shitty team. stfu hippy dumbass
