miami "locking in on defense" is just another way of describing how the refs will not call fouls on them in the last few minutes of any game.
lebron shot 17 free throws. the nets shot 15 free throws.
Miami shot 3s the whole game while the nets drove a lot more yet miami gets twice as many free throws.
The first quarter started with two phantom fouls against Brooklyn to loosen up their defense and get Miami into the bonus early. On Pierce's 5th foul, he was behind Lebron setting a screen, Lebron extended his elbow into Pierces chest, and they called a foul on Pierce. 5/14/2014 9:50:19 PM |

Not sure what else about his 'coaching' career you'd like to discuss. Unless you consider running ship of the illustrious Suns or being a sports commentator the same thing as actual coaching.

Steve Kerr is a great hire.
Everyone wanted Steve Kerr...including the infallible Phil Jackson.
Steve Kerr has more basketball executive/management experience than Mark Jackson did before he got hired....by a long shot.
Comparing the Steve Kerr hire to the Mark Jackson hire is a dumb comparison.
Firing Mark Jackson probably wasn't the correct decision, but the Warrior's front office hated him.
thegoodlife3 is not one of the worst Sports Talk posters...and is easily in the upper echelon of knowledgeable ST posters.
thegoodlife3 can be annoying in his "can't believe we're blaming the refs" rants in post game threads...which still makes his most recent comments amusing.

I've had coworkers who performed really well, but were cancers inside the office, so I can see what Warriors ownership was thinking. Sometimes it just isn't worth it despite results.
Jackson fucked up by giving credibility to those that pointed out his lack of professionalism and social skills with how he kept spouting off after it happened too. The Warriors didn't say a word about him and wished him well, like you should do in professional environment. 5/15/2014 10:41:49 AM |

Personally, I wouldn't want to work for management that would tape record conversations (illegally) and might fire for my personality, even after I led a team from the cellar to win 98 games in two seasons. The Knicks job would have been a much, much easier road to success for Kerr. The West is absolutely stacked, and now Kerr has to deal with insane expectations and players that are going to be bitter after they bonded and grew with Jackson as coach. Funny how not a single player commented on the Kerr hire yesterday...
Does Kerr have the potential to be a great coach? Sure. But aside from Larry Brown, I can't think of a single rookie coach without coaching experience that pans out well. The Warriors took a huge gamble and it likely halted their forward progress over the last few years. I honestly doubt they'll make the playoffs next season...

that comment was dead serious. Winning enough games to sell tickets is the only thing that matters in pro sports, and the Warriors management fired the first coach they've had to do that in 20 years. I'd say that's pretty cancerous of the owner, not the coach. 5/15/2014 4:45:38 PM |

No, Jackson fucked up by not being the total puppet coach that management was looking for. Lacob and Jackson both have huge egos, which is why Jackson is gone. If you want to look for a similar scenario, no need to look any farther than across the Bay. Harbaugh and Trent Balke absolutely hate each other, but the 49ers fan base would destroy the city of San Francisco if they got rid of Harbaugh after last season. You can't fire a guy that takes a team to three straight NFC title games. The fucked up thing is that even if the Warriors had beaten the Clippers, Jackson didn't have a prayer. His only shot at saving himself was winning a title- he was gone before the playoffs even happened. And he knew it too. There were rumors swirling around during the middle of the season that he'd be fired, and the Warriors front office never once said a thing to quash them.

The Warriors management havent owned the Warriors for 20 years.
Also, the Clippers fired Vinny Del Negro after having a similar rise to relevancy and it worked out pretty well for them. The Warriors are good because of their players, not the coach.5/15/2014 9:07:39 PM |

Besides Curry, who do they Warriors really have? Iguodala wasn't the answer. Bogut is one dimensional and injury prone. Klay Thompson isn't there yet. Neither is David Lee. They were really starting to come together, and really improved defensively (one of their biggest criticisms last season) but now they've got to all buy into a completely new system with a guy who's never coached a single NBA or college game. The Xs and Os arguments about Mark Jackson not being able to coach were bullshit. He could coach just fine. Now suddenly Xs and Os aren't an issue with Kerr? C'mon man. 5/15/2014 9:37:41 PM |
