George Orwell is a hack.
What are your thoughts on The Apostle? I've been meaning to watch it for a long time but just never got around to it. 8/2/2010 1:37:42 PM |

Does hearing the word "chiptunes" make you want to choke somebody? 8/2/2010 1:38:53 PM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
i was never big on animal farm
the apostle is awesome
i dislike any words that try to describe a genre that's still amorphous in an effort to shoehorn a bunch of reasonably diverse bands into being portrayed as soundalikes
i had the same problem when the media grouped together the strokes, hives, vines, and white stripes 8/2/2010 1:41:57 PM |

i was thinking of like an uber-contrarian. the conversation would go something like this:
hypothetical douchebag: "man, orson welles is my favorite director of all time"
slightly naive colleague: "yeah, citizen kane is one of the best movies of all time"
hypothetical douchebag: "ehhhhh, citizen kane is minor welles"
good taste or bad taste?
(for the record, i love citizen kane)
PS i enjoyed your use of the word "shoehorn" 8/2/2010 2:03:36 PM |

i had someone tell me i had to read animal farm again because there was "no way i got it"
i'm pretty sure i got it dude. 8/2/2010 2:15:10 PM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
i guess it's bad taste
because citizen kane rules
and is essentially flawless aside from the issues with the cockatoo 8/2/2010 2:20:06 PM |

i have literally heard every record best coast has put out
i think "far away" is as fine a 90 second pop song as has ever existed
as for the LP, here's my poorly written review that doesn't really talk about the record much at all: http://tinyurl.com/2bdlbc4

a guy just came in and brought up a copy of In Evening Air and asked if it was the new Islands album. actual quote: "I know they used to be called something else so I'm assuming Islands was their old name, and Future Islands is the new band name, right?"

Have there ever been two (or more) wrestling gimmicks performed by the same guy that you didn't immediately connect but were later like durr
Like I just realized Hogan's nWo buddy The Disciple was Brutus Beefcake, which is incredibly obvious in hindsight

No one in my area is carrying the new Arcade Fire album. Closest place is Jacksonville, the bane of all sentient life, and it's like an hour drive.
Should I just suck it up and go or should I get it off itunes and buy the real goods from Schoolkids in August? 8/2/2010 9:51:08 PM |
