As a Redskin fan I'm stoked we got Harmon. I was mad we took the Ohio State receiver over him in the 3rd but had no idea he would still be there that late.

Jakobi wasn't drafted and you think he made the right call? Harmon had the numbers but Meyers could have been huge this year as the clear #1 option . 4/28/2019 1:39:13 PM |

yes he made the right call. staying another year wasn't going to improve his measurables/combine performance. He's already graduated and would be having to develop a rapport with a QB who he has had very few reps with (and in all likelihood less than the other guys who will be playing WR this year.)
Having another 1000 yard receiving year wasn't going to help his draft stock, and anything less would definitely hurt. 4/28/2019 2:26:10 PM |

I mean there are 15 schools in the ACC. There are not 15 spots for TV games. Getting a non-conference game on TV (especially ones against shit teams) is a good thing, even if it's at 12. 5/18/2019 5:34:25 PM |

It’s not a counterpoint. It’s just the reality of why games are at noon. Y’all can bitch about it, that’s fine. But it seems totally fair to point out why the games are at noon. 5/19/2019 9:15:54 AM |

Everyone knows it’s because of TV. Everyone is GRATEFUL our games are on tv. Everyone that has season tickets will bitch because noon games are a much less enjoyable fan experience, and we’ve seemed to have an inordinate amount lately, and not just for Western Carolina games. It’s a perfectly reasonable complaint/gripe. Trying to take the other side of the argument comes off as trollish. Hell, I’m in kinda in the “it’s no big deal” camp, but I get it.

Not to mention player/fan safety.
At the end of the day how much benefit do we get to have ECU game televised? It helps me personally bc i can dvr and skip commercials, but how many non state/ecu fans will say "oh I'll watch this one"? I don't think State gets any extra money.

i'm not even taking the other side of the argument. i don't care what time the games are since i'm not a season ticket holder. i think the bitching about noon kick offs comes off as if it's some conspiracy to stick us with shitty KO times when that's not the case. i get why it sucks, but i guess i just don't have the energy to actually get upset about it.5/20/2019 6:18:50 AM |

Noon games in August suck, and they're dangerous.
Here's some fairly meaningless pre-season ramblings about ten players who are "trending up":

They're only dangerous if you're an idiot. Uncomfortable? Sure. And there were definitely issues the one time they ran out of bottled water (although there are fucking water fountains and also wasn't that like 10 years ago now?)
The university does a great job dealing with the early season games now. There are free water stations spread throughout the concourse (along with aforementioned water fountains) as well as sunscreen.
But hey, if there's one thing the NC State internet fan base is good at, it's claiming that we always get the short end of the stick and everyone is out to get us. Now the powers that be are screwing us by deciding to televise our non conference games! Those fucking sly bastards! 5/20/2019 1:53:06 PM |

I think a lot of people have just reached the point where constant rehydrating and copious amounts of sunscreen in 95 degree heat to watch State drag some AA school up and down the field isn't worth it. I know it's not for me. 5/20/2019 2:29:07 PM |

I have a take that is inspired by this discussion but only tangentially related. My hot (hotter than a noon kick off) take is that going to games isn’t fun.
Seats are cramped, weather is a factor (not just heat, cold and rain too), it’s an all day affair especially if you wanna tailgate, concessions aren’t cheap, they don’t sell beer...
I’m not saying that anybody that buys tickets is a sucker. But I’m at the point where watching on tv is far more enjoyable for me. I hope that doesn’t make me a bad fan. 5/20/2019 4:30:06 PM |

It can def feel not worth it for blowout or something but for a big time, close game the environment at a football game is electric and generally hard to match by a game at the RBC. There isn't much like being in the midst of 50000 people cheering for the same thing.
Being in the student section is a different conversation but attending games at CF as a student were some of the most exhilarating times I've had in sports.

^ yeah I’ve been to some unforgettable football games and it’s awesome to be a part of that type of atmosphere.

I'm old enough where I, too, prefer watching games on TV. I had just never heard someone imply that it's some kind of common knowledge that watching football games in person is far worse than watching any other sporting event in person. 5/20/2019 6:25:59 PM |

I could see the argument. And it’s the off-season so I’ll go down this rabbit hole.
Basketball is indoors and a smaller venue - so you’re closer to the game with fewer “bad” seats. Same goes for basically any other indoor sport. Comfort level automatically increases with it being indoors. So then of the outdoor sports you’ve got soccer, football, baseball....that covers the major stuff. Soccer games are significantly shorter than football games. So that’s a point for soccer but I’ve admittedly never been to a soccer game. Baseball can be pretty long and hot but it’s a more laid back atmosphere and slow pace so it’s easier to sit back and enjoy, potentially. The rest is basically up to whatever sports you like best. But that’s a long winded way of me deciding that football might be the worst major sport to see live but i have put v little thought into this till just now. 5/20/2019 6:44:44 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148437 Posts user info edit post |
I wasn't really thinking about the length of the game. So from the perspective of vantage points and sightlines, lines for bathrooms and concessions, etc, I was putting football and soccer on pretty equal terms. Baseball games are long, but the relaxing atmosphere is part of the appeal, if that's what you're into. Regarding lengthy events, a day at a PGA event can be pretty damn long. Golf is definitely not a sport that's easy to watch in person, when it comes to keeping up with the minute-by-minute action. 5/20/2019 6:56:19 PM |

I may just be repeating your posts, but there are so many variables that effect "enjoyment" of a sports experience that it seems silly to rank the best to worst. 5/20/2019 7:29:18 PM |
